But the instructions say to shave first, SHAVE!! really??? My tache?? What if it doesn't work??

You have to remove all the hair above the skin so it can kill the hair underneath it. I had IPL done & had to do the same. I'm sure there's a more technical explanation but I don't remember it anymore.
