What are your wardrobe heroes?

Those items you're glad you own?

I'm trying to build a capsule-type wardrobe and am thinking of some of the best-value things I have and I'd love to hear others.

I like my:
Black leather biker jacket I received for my 16th birthday (still looks good 15 years later)
Wine coloured Whistles dress which makes me feel v polished
Well cut grey jumper which goes with everything
Uniqlo jeggings
Brown leather ankle boots
Cream three quarter sleeve top
Lipstick Queen red lipstick

Struggling to think of any others! Would love a silk shirt but have big norks (30GG) and I'm not sure I'd suit one.

I'm no fashion guru but I treated myself to a poncho from jigsaw . It's a great staple. I have a navy one. About 70 quid but I go a discount.

Also love my new pointy ankle boots

JaceLancs · 20/12/2014 23:25

Black cashmere roll neck long sweater
Well fitting skinny jeans in indigo and black
Black knee length biker boots
Black sweater dress
Proper Aran sweater

trainersandaches · 21/12/2014 09:18

Some nice knitwear is also on my list - the Jigsaw poncho sounds fab!

Grey shearling pistols

Skinnies, but need new ones

And loads of cashmere / wool jumpers

QueenCardigan · 21/12/2014 09:47

My wardrobe heroes are...
Cardigans. Despite wearing jeans and either a navy or grey top every day I look different depending which colour cardi I wear.
Grey boots. They go with everything.
Grey handbag. Despite owning several handbags in different colours I mainly use the grey one on a daily basis as again it goes with everything.
Black shift dress. It's years old but I always feel great when I wear it out.
Bright pink lippy. I feel naked without it.

Always a good coat in winter - this year a gorgeous Cos navy simple hooded longish smooth wool/ poly/ cashmere blend coat.

I also have a leopard fur coat which has been a really great purchase this year, a bargain Tesco buy.

I'm pregnant atm so mine are based around that:

Good black leggings x4 - Sainsburys
Great boots - I have Kurt Geiger riding boots
Great knitwear in flattering colours
At least one dress that makes you feel fabulous
Well fitting bras
Good tights - Autograph ones are good

Chottie · 21/12/2014 12:53

slim fitting trousers in grey and navy
wedge lace ups and ankle boots
Boden dresses x 3
straight skirts in grey and navy
floral blouse with round collar
blue and white pin stripe blouse with round collar
dark bronze metallic finish leather grab bag (goes with everything)
Brown lambskin thigh leather jacket

Multiple cardigans in patterns / solid colours / different lengths and different weights. (I do not wear jackets very often).

A wide range of scarves in different colours and patterns and weights which really help to 'pull' a look together.

ElizabethHoover · 21/12/2014 13:05

lola t amber you are SUCH A BRAND DROPPER Grin

Happy36 · 21/12/2014 13:10

White shirt. Goes with.anything. Buy cheap and replace as soon as it looks tatty. I usually get them from Massimo Dutti; M&S Autograph also good.

Proper leather pumps and boots, brown or black and as plain as possible, flat heels. In England they can be expensive and poor quality so make the most of visits to Italy, Mallorca, Spain and other places with high quality shoes at reasonable prices.

TexanKenDoll · 21/12/2014 13:19

Alaia dresses-so comfortable and timeless,
A Valentino black wool crepe tuxedo jumpsuit-from a couple of seasons back, so useful and a great alternative to the LBD
Cashmere-Uniqlo, NPeal and ESK my favourites
Ankle boots-IM Crisi and some classic Santoni heeled chelsea boots are my favourites of the season
Over the knee boots-I'm off knee boots at the mo and feel these look far fresher in my opinion, loving Stuart Weitzman Highland
My Woolrich mens parka, so warm
Margiela navy peacoat-oversize and a great shape
Gianvito Rossi pointed toe pumps-I think the best classic shape from any designer and in a great range of colours/leathers
Fendi 2jours in grey-loving grey at the mo (I mostly wear grey, black, off white, navy and leopard print day to day) and a great size for all the rubbish I carry about most days

FrugalFashionista · 21/12/2014 13:24

These items are the backbone of my daily dressing, worn constantly:

H&M Limited vanilla ice cream white scoop neck sweatshirts
MiH and H&M jeans
H&M and Me + Em spaghetti strap vests
BAM knickers
Mimi Holliday bras

Vagabond leather high-tops, silvery pale green and navy
Taupe Chloe Mini Marcie
Celtic sheepskin shoeboots

Lily Lolo lip gloss in Bitten Pink
silver jewellery (chunky rings and bracelets)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 21/12/2014 14:21

My most useful/used non-work items are -

skinny jeans in pale wash and black (M&S 5 pocket jeggings)
black turtleneck (M&S)
black cashmere roll neck (M&S)
brown leather biker (Oasis)
grey leather biker (Mint Velvet)
denim mini skirt (M&S)
black silk t-shirt (Ted Baker)
black heeled ankle boots (Aldo)
black lace bodycon dress (M&S)
black flat strappy ankle boots (Episode)
tan leather Converse
parka (M&S)
black opaque tights (M&S)

I could go to most places with a combination of the above plus a scarf or five and some jewellery. And I moan about M&S but most of my most useful basics are from there.

CambridgeBlue · 21/12/2014 14:56
  • M&S jeggings in indigo and black - great price and combine the look of skinnies with the comfort of leggings
  • Next relaxed skinnies
  • Hush Henley and Amy dresses - bum covering, comfy and go with anything
  • Grey boyfriend cardigan
  • Long sleeved plain t-shirts in wine, teal, forest green, charcoal, grey marl and ivory - mainly Gap, M&S, Next or Primark
  • Wine coloured Jack Wills silky shirt
  • Denim shirt
  • Black and wine cashmere jumpers
  • Low top Converse in a variety of colours
  • Fur lined hightops
  • Shearling lined biker boots
  • Tan knee high boots
  • Boden grey photographer jacket
  • Black leather biker jacket
  • Black parka
  • Mumsnet scarf (am I the only one still wearing this?)
  • Grey beanie
  • Cashmere wristwarmers

I'm pretty sorted for daytime stuff but desperately in need of some nicer bits and going out stuff - I am rubbish at doing smart.

Seeing texan's list I forgot to mention Rossi suede heels - two colours.

TexanKenDoll · 21/12/2014 16:01

You have a peacoat on your list too Marsha, such a good buy but it took me years to find mine!

Love G Rossi, great timeless stiletto and extremely comfortable. I'm on a mission to find the perfect heeled chelsea boot in a lovely chesnut or conker brown. He did some a couple of seasons ago which were on thecorner.com but I missed them.

Forgot to say, Frame skinny de Jeanne or J Brand 620s. I live in them at the weekend.

CaulkheadUpNorth · 21/12/2014 16:04

Arribella and Addison tops from tkmaxx.
