Kim Kardashian - good for women's body image or not?

Look at this picture of Kim Kardashian:

www.mailonsunday.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2839141/Lady-latex-Kim-Kardashian-squeezes-famous-figure-pink-PVC-dress-launch-perfume-Melbourne.html

I can't make up my mind whether:

  1. she looks good and we are over conditioned to seeing thin women.
  2. she looks fat but over comes that to look good because of her self-confidence in her body.
  3. she looks fat, dresses like a chav and does not look good.

Maybe fat isn't the right word - excessively broad in the beam?

Anyway - is it a good thing for women's body image for her to be pictured in the media so much or a bad thing?

Does she look good or not? I fluctuate between the two and can't make up my mind.

She isn't fat she's just carrying a lot in the boob and butt area. I like the idea of different body types being portrayed in the media but KK is all about flashing her boobs and her bum and it's no better than the unattainable model perfect images we see all the time - just IMO

She's not fat or even overweight. She just doesn't look like a starving prepubescent boy like a lot of actresses/models look like these days.

I don't like her dress sense myself, but if that's your cup of tea then she looks fine.

However she still isn't a realistic role model for women because her whole role in life is about what she looks like. She will have a team of stylists and her whole life's mission is about trying to look attractive. Nothing else.

She looks like a overstuffed sausage with boobs.
The dress is in a very unfortunate shade of gynaecological pink.

It's all so tawdry.

On the plus side no-one needs to worry about the size of their bum next to KK.

She's not fat but wouldn't that be a bit sweaty?

Does latex make you sweaty - must try out my latex dress at work tomorrow...

I don't think she looks fat at all, she is a beautiful woman with a great figure, even with the arse implants.

The dress is horrid admittedly but let's be honest, she makes her money off flaunting her body and her life. So a hideous PVC dress is a win win.

I don't think she's a good role model at all and I would be concerned if my own DD's wanted to emulate her in any way.

She probably has a member of staff to talc her bum crack if it gets a bit too sweaty.

She's doesn't have a shape like anyone I have ever seen in rl. She looks artificial. She wasn't that shape when she was younger. She is a one woman freak show. Looking artificially all tits and arse can't possibly be a good thing for women.

WowserBowser · 18/11/2014 16:08

If it was natural I would be all high five sister. Well, without all the naked shots...

But I think it is going like boob jobs when I was younger. Bigger and bigger until some women feel inadequate unless they get implants.

I am sure that doesn't make sense. But I know what I mean. We should all be able to embrace our natural shape.

My thoughts:

  1. Horrible dress.

  1. She is not fat. She has a beautiful figure.

  1. However, the objectification of women has reached the worst levels in human history. Thats the point. Its deeply disturbing. Women are scrutinised down to the last lump and bump now in the most vile and damaging way. She plays into this and feeds it massively. She is not a healthy role model for any young woman.

I just feel depressed when I look at her. A beautiful woman who quite literally feels she has NOTHING else to offer but her bum...and thats all the rest of us really want from her. Sad.

The thing about her IMO is that her figure is even more unattainable to most, than the stick thin models. Whilst she is very curvy, her waist is tiny and she is probably very dainty in real life apart from big chest and bum. It's not unheard of but it is very very rare to be THAT curvy with such a small waist, I don't know how anyone would get this figure unless it was natural or surgical enhanced.

the answer to your question is 3)

How could you ever think she is good for women's body image. Lol

Littlemoocow · 18/11/2014 16:30

So my point is that she isn't a real woman who us real women can look up to.

specialsubject · 18/11/2014 16:32

she looks a perfectly normal size to me - arms and legs not fugly skinny like the horrible model look, but not overweight either. A spot of google get a life, I know reveals that the boobs are hers, and they do look real.

ghastly dress, obviously. She looks a sack of spuds in it but anyone would.

what is she famous for?

Report
Carpaccio · 18/11/2014 16:33

She's known for wearing spanx, waist shapers and so on, as well as photoshopping pictures. She's had plastic surgery, fillers and botox. She wears a lot of makeup, hair extensions/wigs and clothes that wouldn't be considered appropriate in the real world.

There's no way she's any good for women's body image - she's simply not natural.

The youngest Kardashian, who is only about 16, seems to be heading down the same body modification route. She's utterly different from her former self. I find it quite sad.

She is not fat at all. She is very thin. Her large bits (breasts and bum) are unlikely to be natural. If you are happy with the diet yourself tiny then turn to cosmetic enhancements route then I suppose she is a decent example of what can be achieved.

I wait for the day she becomes irrelevant..........

I'm fully anticipating that ass will have its own chat show by next week...

The media obsession with the female form - be it fat, thin or somewhere in between, is unhealthy for us all.

Agree with everything WrecktheHalls said.

Also, she's not fat, she is a very well toned non-standard shape
(although the dress is horrid and would look gipping on anyone, not just her).

Why does everyone have to fit into a standardised mould to be approved of?
Why are women judged on appearance first and foremost, when men aren't?

She may not be a role model when it comes to most things, but at least she's not ashamed of her body - which is a good thing, surely?

Divergent views are interesting.

I meant because she isn't a typical celeb shape - being a lot larger generally - and nevertheless seems very body confident.

As banana says, she's clearly not ashamed of her body. Many women that sort of shape/bum that size would be trying to conceal it. That's really what I was getting at.

But as I said, I constantly change my mind!

25 years ago, when I was a teenager, I had size 12 hips and a size 6/8 waist. I hated my body. I felt out of proportion, like a burlesque joke. Kim Kardashian is not my style at all. But the fact that a body similar to mine was in anyway being celebrated would have been balm for my soul.

She's not fat but the dress is way too small making her look bigger. It does look unflattering and uncomfortable.

Report
MissMogwi · 18/11/2014 17:01

I disagree. Why would anyone with her shape be trying to hide it

I don't see her as large at all, yes she has big boobs and bum but her waist and limbs are toned and slender.

She's turned her body into the one we are all 'supposed' to aim for, according to the media. That's her USP.
