Epsom Salts

I've seen these mentioned a few times around these parts and I feel like I'm missing out on this marvelous miracle.

Are they any good for water retention and belly bloat? I suffer terribly with this around period times, to the point where I can't zip up my jeans Sad

What do you do with 'em, just chuck 'em in the bath? Do they dry your skin out?

I think they are brilliant. Chuck em in!

ihatethecold · 24/10/2014 22:15

They are cheaper in tkmaxx.
I use them for my bad back.

Hassled · 24/10/2014 22:18

I remember an old boss telling me he'd organised a dinner party, had a quick bath before the guests arrived, stuck some Epsom Salts in and fell into such a deep sleep that he didn't hear the doorbell at any point over the next couple of hours. So I don't know about water retention but you'll be thoroughly relaxed.

goodasitgets · 25/10/2014 03:48

I use them in baths. Have pjs ready as I stagger out the bath, into bed and out like a light
Also great for achy muscles

ForSaleChesterDraws · 25/10/2014 06:20

I use them to make my hair curlier! For a second day refresher I have a water spritzer with about 2tbsp hair gel dissolved in about 150ml water with 1/4 tsp of Epsom salts

CuttedUpPear · 25/10/2014 07:19

Ooh this is interesting.

HeyMacWey · 25/10/2014 08:04

I've just bought some to help with achy muscles. Didn't realise there were other benefits too.

LuckySaint · 25/10/2014 11:32

I buy them from Amazon (£20 for a huge box)
They are brilliant for water retention/bloat etc.
You need the magnesium sulphate type for bathing.

AtlanticDrift · 25/10/2014 11:46

I just googled them and noticed boots also do some that you can dissolve and drink, which got remembering that my granny swore by 'physic of salts' as she called them, to clear out your system. I remember her telling me as a teenager when my skin was bad to take them. Of course I didnt but now I'm wondering if she was right

SofaCanary · 25/10/2014 13:07

Right, I've ordered a kilo from Amazon to give them a test run, shall report back.

Mix them with almond oil. Use the mix as a scrub. Sink into the bath and let it all dissolve. Relaxing and moisturizing. And very cheap Smile .

SofaCanary · 25/10/2014 21:01

Love the sound of that scrub, thanks!

Also great for bringing ingrown hairs to the surface. They seem to allow you to expel icky stuff from/through your skin.

XiCi · 26/10/2014 11:08

Amazing stuff. Have the water in the bath as hot as possible, the magnesium sulphates are absorbed through the skin and flush toxins out. Brilliant for hangovers so would be good to have around for the Xmas season. So many other health benefits too.

Fluffycloudland77 · 26/10/2014 19:36

You can take magnesium tablets too, very calming.

EarSlaps · 26/10/2014 19:39

Ooh, I've just ordered some. I quite fancy a relaxing bath as I sometimes get quite achey after a good kettlebell session. Magnesium is supposed to be great for immunity so it might help prevent the sniffles.

Chilling out the children sounds wonderful too!

gamerchick · 26/10/2014 19:44

They're good for bringing skin things to a head as well and a cup in the washing machine sterilises the machine and whiff lingering smells... They are also good for soaking feat in for fungal infections.

Pretty good stuff really.

gamerchick · 26/10/2014 19:44

NancyJones · 26/10/2014 19:47

They have an amazing effect on hyper children. Also, they are very popular with parents of children with asd. Some swear by the affects and how they seem to flush toxins out.

HeyMacWey · 26/10/2014 21:42

Had a super soak this morning and felt gaga for about an hour afterwards. Could have easily fine back to bed. Muscles/joints are feeling considerably less achy. An unexpected side effect is that it seems to have helped a random patch of eczema. Hurrah Grin
