Easy up-dos that don't involve straighteners

I'm waiting in hospital for an outpatients appointment so need to take my mind off it. Has anyone any tips for easy up dos, ponytails or buns, that are quick and don't need loads of equipment or products. All the ones I find on YouTube seem to be involved and technical.

I have bra strap length hair that is very fine and very thick.

Thanks S and B experts!

Dry shampoo is my top tip if your hair is fine. Turn head upside down, squoosh loads into the roots and shake hands through, throw head back and gently scoop into a high ponytail, and kirbygrip into a loose bun. Hairspray if you want to finish, but the dry shampoo sort of holds it in place anyway and just makes it all look thick.

Thanks - I have never in my life managed to do a good bun so will try this.

Further hopeful bump.

An air stewardess told me quickest way to do a bun is:

  1. Gather hair into pony tail.
  2. Pull through the middle of a donut

  1. Tip head forward and spread the hair from the centre around the donut outwards.

So it looks like image number 3 here:

  1. Grab a stretchy elastic band and pull it over the donut so it secures your hair between the donut and your head. It needs to be stretchy enough to go over the whole donut but with enough elastic in it to have hold.

  1. Tuck the "sticking out hair" round the donut and under the elastic band as you go round.

Bun done as Gordon Ramsay would say. I'm not sure I've explained it well but it's REALLY easy. The easiest way to get it is to watch someone do it.

My other tip is to comb through some mousse, brush your hair back into a tight pony tail when its wet and it will dry sleek.

My hair is quite wavy/curly and only collarbone length so this might not work with straight (if you have straight hair) and longer hair...

Put your hair into a high ponytail (not too tight) and don't pull it all the way through the hairband so you've got a kind of loop of hair, then pull bits all the way through so it looks really messy, then randomly pin bits around the bobble so it looks like a very rough and messy bun. You'll need to be able to see the back of your head so you can see it's even and the bobble is covered, but once you get the hang of it, it's a doddle.

I hope your appointment goes well. Smile

I did the air stewardess one today, I liked it and felt like a ballet teacher from a children's book :)

Will try the messy one at the weekend.

Loose ponytail about an inch from the nape of your neck, then sort of zig-zag hair up and down, and hold in place with claw Choose the claw size to suit the quantity of hair you have.

I have resorted to all back in a low clip

Very lovely, but hard to get to stay in: low ponytail, pull bobble down slightly, and then make a small "nest" in the hole you have made. Roll/tuck all your hair into the nest, and thenpin in place with kirby grips.

You know kirby grips go "upsidedown" down you? The wavy side goes close to your skull.

I did not know that about Kirby grips! Everyday is a school day.
