Getting info from hairdresser re. colours used

Hi - I'm trying to find out from my hairdresser what colours they use for my highlights. They are saying it is "against company policy" to disclose this to me. Does anyone know if they are allowed to do this?? It's data they hold about me?! Thanks in advance.

Used to manage a high end well known salon. Never heard of this. If clients called and asked we told them. Is it the make of colour or the actual number of the colour? I would have thought they have a legal obligation to tell you as you may be allergic to ingredients etc

Sounds like bollocks. How rude. I would change hairdressers.

You could probably work it out for yourself if you look at the professional dye swatches online.

Thanks Gavlarr. Ideally I would like both....they won't tell me anything at the moment!

Could you pop into a hairdressers and ask for an assessment as if you were thinking of being a client and ask them what level/tone your highlights are and whether you suit them or what would they recommend instead?

I agree Milmingebag....I am not impressed. Bit odd though isn't it that they won't tell what they are putting on my head Hmm

Very odd. It's not like you are going to be able to do it yourself so they will loose trade. A professional hairdresser will be able to just look and tell what shades they have used.

Why do you want to know? Have you had a reaction or is the outcome not as you expected?

I'm assuming they have it written down somewhere? Either on paper or in electronic form? If so, it falls under the data protection act and they have to disclose it if you ask. They are allowed to charge a "reasonable" fee for providing it. You have to ask in writing.

So is call them back and say that as they hold personal info about you, you'd like to know what it is as per the data protection act. Ask if they'd like your request in writing... I'm pretty sure they'll give it to you.

Call again and say you're moving away, you love your colours and want to use the same while you're away! But yes under data protection act they hVe to disclose it, it will be saved on their system unless your stylist forgot to note them.....

Just echoing what others have said really - they have to tell you, it's against the data protection act not to disclose information to you at your request. I reckon they have forgotten to keep a record of the products used (which they are absolutely supposed to do) and so have come up with some bullshit excuse. Don't take any crap Smile
