Looking for the perfect totally simple black knitted jumper dress. Can't find it!

Can you help me MN stylistas? I want a plain black jumper dress, knee length (and I'm tall so generous knee length, midi would also do), plain round or scoop neck, long sleeves, wool or wool blend, and ideally a fine knit not too chunky. Straight / fitted / tube style or a slim a-line, rather than with a gathered or flared waist as these don't suit me.

This Looked perfect but when it arrived it had weird puffy gathered shoulders that I hadn't noticed in the pic - bah! So have sent it back. Part of the problem is that I have to shop online to find something so specific, but it's v hard to see the pics clearly when it's a black knitted dress. You just see a black silhouette and it's hard to tell if it's as simple as it looks.

What I would love is if anyone already owns this mythical beast and can tell me where to get it! Or if anyone knows of a company that would do it. I'm not asking you to search for me, unless you want to, as I've already searched exhaustively. Thanks v much!

I found a fab one in Sainsbury's of all places - to the knee (and I'm 5'10), scoopish neck, long sleeves - not sure on material but it's very soft and non-sweaty! Fine knit. Might be worth a look? It was only around the £20 mark but looks lovely on.

Monsoon? They have a new range in - but they might be more fussy than what you were after.

H&M had some in but they weren't wool - felt more like acrylic.

Also Uniqlo has a beautiful cashmere one, but it has some grey on and may be a little shorter than you'd like.

The Inès de la Fressange collection in Uniqlo has a really nice-looking black merino dress - but it has a boat neck rather than a round one. Not very boaty, though...

Thanks everyone, wow Sainsbury's?? Will check that out! I suppose it might not last/wash all that well but I would definitely get it if it was right.

Looked at monsoon and they actually have one that's almost there (apart from boat neck, but maybe I could live with that) but it's sold out in L and XL! I'd probably be L (I'm a 14).

Some of these links are lovely but too short I'm afraid. Soooo many of the ones I've seen in my searches are mid-thigh or higher, like a long jumper/tunic. Which makes sense as it's a "jumper dress" but when they make them longer it's so much more flattering on me.

Definitely off to Sainbo's tomorrow...

PrincessBride just to say thank you, I now have a sainsbury's one! 25% off Tu today so it cost me... £13.50. It's not totally simple as it has some patterned stitching, but as it's black that is hard to see anyway. So definitely good enough for my current needs desires and mostly viscose which I am v happy with. Thanks again!

Zalando has a good selection of jumper dresses.

Second Sainsburys. It's to the knee, fine knit, sleeves and fitted.

That Sainsbury dress sounds perfect, but cant find it on the website. Can anyone give a link please?

I couldn't find it online either - they seem to show just a limited selection. I think you just have to go into a big sainsburys to find it.

You can't yet buy TU online I don't think and it isn't listed inline anyway. I think you need to go instore.

It's worth the trip. I'm not a sainsburys clothes fan by any means but they do do the odd gem now and again and this dress is easy to wear, slim fitting and looks nice - fine to dress down during the day and also nice enough to go out in the evening in.

I probably do not need 4 of them and am prepared to let my red one go ( it's a dark red, not bright ) so if you fancy it then give me a shout via PM

That Esprit one is a bit short for me, but I like it! Might look nice with jeans.

Cos have them. They are more expensive than the Tu dress, but really worth looking at none the less.

I had a good look in Cos recently (because it's so hard to see the details on their website) but they were all kind of cocoon/sack-shaped (not good with my pear shape!) or had weird detail on them like mesh panels – there was one that was almost right but on closer inspection it was navy, gah! I think I like Cos best when they're having a straightforward moment. When they get it right (for me), it's sooo right and lovely quality.
