is bare minerals any good or can you recomend anyhting else?

My skin is generally good, slightly oily at times but mostly spot free. I do have freckles though, and would sometimes like a bit of cover on them just to even it all out. 95% of the time I wear very little makeup (bit of mascara and a dash of something neutral on my lips) .

Does the bare minerals face powered stuff actually work, I'm a sucker for infomercials as I love the idea of being able to choose the level of coverage. Or will I be sadly disappointed?

Bare minerals is good but can be slightly cakey/drying.
I've heard very good reviews of a British brand called Lily Lolo which is similar to BM but supposed to be better

I tried Bare Minerals and got fed up of making a mess everywhere with loose powder. I quite like pur, which comes as a pressed powder compact. You get a very natural finish, which I like.

I try every time qvc have it as a TSV as it always looks so good but each time it looks cakey and dry.

I quite liked mine to be honest but you need to practice applying it and do light layers and build on it if you want I found with a good moisturiser I only needed very light layers one thing is you do need to wash your face well morning and night and moisturise well or you will get the drying out especially in the t-zone. I got a very nice coverage and I was complimented on how I looked

I use bare minerals and another cheaper brand called bare faced beauty. i switch between them a bit though i do prefer bare faced beauty most of the time. Mineral founsation can be a bit messy but it gives me a lovely complexion and nice coverage. You can get cheap samples of the bare faced beauty foundation online and they have a good range of shades. I think a full size foundation is 14 quid so quite cheap.

I love mine & so does my skin !

I start on the outer area of my cheeks , move up to forehead then work in with the residue on the brush & always get a natural finish .

Wouldn't be without it & I've spent a fortune over the years , I thought I would never find a foundation that works for me until I got this .

You need to tap a tiny bit into the lid, swirl in the brush, tap the brush then buff in circles.
Buff for two renditions of "Happy Birthday to You"

You can build up if you want but the buffing stops it being cakey.

And my DS will grudgingly allow the concealer if he has a spot - it covers invisibly.

I haven't tried Bare Minerals but I do use Lily Lolo. My problem is I have very oily skin on my nose so no matter what kind of primer/foundation combo I try , nothing will ever be perfect. The search continues..............

I honestly don't know how or where I got my B.M.freebie Bare Escentuals pressed foundation but came across it this morning in my make-up drawer.....I have a permanent red patch of eczema under my nose at this time of year, tried dabbing it with a cosmetic sponge loaded with this, and it covered it completely! Just checked, 10hrs later, and my skin still looks absolutely clear.

Now that's what I call a result.

I used it for 3 years and hated every day. Tedious to apply and looked awful. I moved to Pur Minerals this year and live it. It's a US brand sold in M&S. So easy to apply and looks great.

I like Bare minerals, it is incredibly quick and easy, you can literally do it without a mirror. I mean, I don't usually, but have had to and you can't go wrong unless you overload the brush. I have never found it drying at all, but I do have a comparatively oily skin.

The main thing is that you hardly need any on the brush, if you need more coverage just keep buffing rather than add more and more.

If you go to a counter and ask nicely for a tester to try at home they will usually put some in a little pot for you. Alternatively order from QVC and then you can use it for a couple of weeks but still return if you don't like it.

Bare Minerals is amazing and made my whole face look 100x better. Buuuuuuut, my skin hated it and I got these giant bumpy spots things constantly. Something to do with having mica in it maybe? Anyway moved to Lily Lolo and v impressed although poss not as durable as the BM stuff but it does me just fine.

The mineral mix presses powder is bare minerals without all the tapping and buffing. Difficult to screw it up and look great!
Lasts ages too.

Bare Minerals original
Contains bismuth oxychloride.
It's linked to aggravating acne and cause itching.

Their Matte version contains something they call "earths minerals". BM won't let on what that actually is. Caused itching and redness for me.

When my skin was oilier pre DC I used Lily Lolo. It's excellent. Lots of shades to choose from. Makes your skin flawless.

Now after having DC (and turning 40) my skin is dryer. I use Bellapierre. It's fantastic. Absolutely flawless despite the fact I suffer from Rosacea. Lasts all day. Super quick to apply and doesn't aggravating in any way.

Bellapierre is a true all in one. If you apply with a concealor brush it works as a full coverage concealor too and no need for finishing powders or anything else.

With Lily Lolo you will need to buy a seperate concealor if you get the odd spot.

However Lily Lolo is £13 for a fu pot of foundation which lasts months and concealor is £9 which will last you a year. Bellapierre is £25 (from Naturissimo on line). So more expensive.

Also Lili Lolo do tester pots to help you find your shade. None of the others do.

Also have a look at Inika. Lovely soft full coverage powder. I couldn't get a shade match but you may be luckier.

And a final tip. Don't bother with primers and all that. What you need to to set your mineral makeup with a spritz of water after applying. It sounds utterly daft but it sets it and helps it last all day.

You can make your own facial spritz but I just buy the Avene from Boots. You only need the smallest can (it lasts months) which is £1.5.

If your skin ever feels really dry, use facial spritz before applying mineral powder foundation and again after apply. Locks moisture in somehow so your skin doesn't flake and stays hydrated.

I'm always puzzled as to why Bare Minerals is recommended so much on here. At times I've suspected people of being paid to advertise it. It's crap.

too expensive, cakey result even used in cunjunction with the (expensive again) "prime time" brightening foundation primer.

The maybelline dream fresh BB skin perfectoris a much better option. Glides on very smoothly on top of a light moisturizer.
rub a pea sized amount on fingertips, pat all over face and blend in starting with the T zone and working your way outwards.
Dewy yet mat finish.
Its has a SPF 30 too. what's not to love!

and very good natural coverage for rosacea too. No irritation afterwards, easy to remove and can be used for touch ups like a light concealer too.

MrsFlorrick the other brands you mention do sound good. I seem to remember when I looked at Bellapierre in a shop once it had a kind of glittery look - is that an issue?
