I need an outfit and shoes for a funeral that I can later use for job interviews

I have a funeral to go to early next week and have nothing suitable to wear, I don't have lots of money to spend at the moment after an early summer splurge. Ideally I want an outfit that I can reuse use for job interviews I will hopefully have in the new year. I am late thirties, hourglass, size 8-10 with a very wobbly tummy and bum.

Matalan work section have some nice stuff, I would class as suitable.

I was in Matalan yesterday but didn't think to look, might try and nip back in the week.

What's your budget for both?

How about this dress with these shoes?

Maximum £150 for both but ideally less than £100, like the dress but not the shoes. What's mango sizing like?

Those are nice, Remus.

Mango sizing quite generous IIRC- haven't bought anything from them for ages though.

Prefer those shoes Remus they're more me, I love these but not sure they are suitable for either funeral or work and they're too expensive really although I could be tempted if enough people like them

I love the look of the Mango dress and those Clarks shoes are the only shoes I have ever liked from Clarks. They look great.

Am personally not over-fond of patent tbh.

I have some v similar M&S ones for work. Mine are quite a bit higher, but are surprisingly comfortable.

These look nice too, if you'd rather have leather than suede.

See those leather M&S ones are nice Remus but they're not the clarks ones, wish I hadn't seen them! I really want them but I need opinions as to whether they really are suitable for what I need them for.

I think I prefer the clarks ones.

I nearly linked to that Jaeger one, but didn't as I felt it was a bit dull.

this?

I nearly linked to that M&S one when linking the shoes earlier. Would depend on the fabric, I think. Also M&S dresses tend to come up long - are you tall?

This one looks quite nice too.

Not tall 5,5. Really like that one Remus but sold out in my size.

I like the Jaeger dress. What about this Zara wool dress? www.zara.com/uk/en/woman/dresses/studio-gathered-dress-c269185p2231536.html

Whilst you're here, B - is there a live workwear thread going at the mo? I can't find one.

sharingeverythingtwice · 31/08/2014 21:52

Thanks Belinda love, love, love the Zara one, will be heading to try it on tomorrow if I can, though that and the shoes are over my budget really.

Remus - think the workwear thread has slipped into holiday mode. I will wake it up.

Sharing - you and I have the same sounding figure, so there is also a Mango dress that I tried on and loved, in the size M / 10. Will find and link.

Sharing - it's this dress. Reduced to £20 and I tried on size 10. One of the most flattering dresses I have ever tried. shop.mango.com/GB/p0/women/clothing/dresses/draped-dress/?id=21090274_02&n=1&s=prendas.vestidosprendas&ident=0__0_1400642591481&ts=1400642591481

Just wanted to say thanks Belinda, I ordered the Mongo dress in a size 10 and it is amazing, it felt really flattering all day, sad to say I forgot to order the clarks shoes and none of my local stores stock "fashion ranges" so I ended up with these, as I had no time to sort anything else, practical is the best that can be said for them I'm afraid.
