I haven't been to any sort of excersise class for twenty years and I assume holey tie dye leggings and a Carter T-shirt are no longer de rigeur?Grin Grin

Yoga trousers and a fitted top- if you wear a loose one it will gape when you're doing some of the exercises.

Same as above - the fitted top helps the instructor see what position your body is on more easily, then they can correct you. Comfy too - you don't want a loose top riding up in some positions

Leggings, sports bra and long line lycra vest so it doesn't ride up when doing some of the positions.

Def a fitted top, no matter what it looks like. Baggy one'll end up showing everything off and you'll be constantly tugging at it. I wear leggings too.

Oh dear, there maybe a reason I haven't done any of this stuff for so long.

Fitted top, does not sound good, my wobbly midriff is one of the reasons I am contemplating the pilates.

I do see what you mean about not wanting something baggy conceivably revealing said midriff AND baps when doing the dying duck or whatever.

So how fitted is fitted and where to buy said item?

What about the sports bra? I take it I won't need too much scaffolding- is it light impact or something? Where can I buy a half decent one cheaply?

Grin I couldn't find my fitted pilates top the other week so wore a loose-ish top. About five minutes in, I realised you could see straight down it including boobs and wobbly belly. I spent the rest of the class trying to tuck my top into my bra to spare the view. Even if you just wear a long vest top, that would be better!

I wear loose gym trousers and a low-impact (soft) sports bra. I have to be honest and admit I got mine in Lidl Blush as it's not having to control the boobs, just...cushion them!

Agree with a more fitted top, but a close fitting t-shirt would be fine. If you can do a downward dog without it flapping about and getting in the way, it will be fine. Leggings or other not too baggy trousers. You don't really need a sports bra - it's not an impact exercise. You might find you are more comfortable with one, but why not see how you go first. You won't be sweating that much until you get pretty advanced, so you don't need to worry about technical fabrics - cotton will do just as well as lycra. Last time I was in Primark they had good cheap long line vest tops, which you can layer to look extra funky Grin.

Good luck! Pilates is fab!

peasandlove · 29/08/2014 02:08

and make sure your leggings arent too thing. I was doing pilates the other week and I could see the instructers g-string every time she bent over or worse, opened her legs

peasandlove · 29/08/2014 02:11

thin, not thing

lordnoobson · 29/08/2014 03:07

H and m sell this stuff cheaply. Or even marks. Not tesco

MsVanRein · 29/08/2014 03:17

Have a look in H&M, I've got a few pairs of good quality yoga pants in there.

IDismyname · 29/08/2014 04:23

I sometimes wear a close fitting vest top - just an M&S one, and then a baggy shirt over the top. I do Pilates in a draughty church hall, anyway.
