Yes .. i have to stop.. coming on here doesnt help....

PasswordProtected · 20/07/2014 19:35

I have to confess to spending about GBP 1000 online in the sales this weekend. But I was going for high-end garments.
Am now kitted out for the next x years for work & leisure.
There has to be one advantage to earning a very goid salary.

Greengardenpixie · 20/07/2014 19:55

Yes, coming on here has probably made me worse ha ha.....
I need to excercise control! It did make an interesting read. The thing is, i truly can see myself in that article. I buy things and i really DONT need them. I buy them because it gives me a lift and then i do feel guilty!

Yes it's me and I feel guilty! Difficult to stop

Mrsgrumble · 20/07/2014 20:08

No! I would love her wardrobe though. I work with a girl like this amd she neer has any money.

I do like a few quality pieces and hate waste.

In my work, a cardigan and blouse or something is most appropriate and at the weekends I tend to do casuals or dress up in Sunday so no real 'outings' for me to sport the latest gear.

Mrsgrumble · 20/07/2014 20:08

I work in a different role to said girl though.

Laska42 · 20/07/2014 20:13

Ok so how may wardrobes do we have? i have 2 stuffed full and am gradually taking over another in spare room.. also a 5 drawer chest of drawers rammed.. Blush..

More importantly do all of your clothes in them fit? ( mine mostly do..)

(I also have summer cardis in every colour. . well now i do since i bought two (!) yellow ones this weekend lemon and sunshine yellow).. oh no.. i dont have a lilac one....

Greengardenpixie · 20/07/2014 20:17

Well, i have quite a large wardrobe. Mostly all the clothes fit me. Ones i havent worn i sell on ebay so recoup the money. I often do a clear out to fund my new clothes!!!! I have thrown out and sold loads of shoes. I have a number or unworn skirts and dresses and trousers in my wardrobe and oops i also forgot i had just bought a pair of toast trousers in the sale!!!

OP posts:
Laska42 · 20/07/2014 20:22

I did sell on ebay when i was losing weight.. its here and getting down to a 10/12 thats been my downfall...

Is ebay still ok to sell on do you think? .. it seems from reading on ebay discusions here that lots of people are having probs ..also am a bit miffed they are now taking a % of postage as fees.. i also found that when iwas selling 18/20s they sold well but but smaller ones dont seem to go for much ( even though they are good makes ) so was thinking of selling in local hospice 50/50 shop from now on.

victoryinthekitchen · 20/07/2014 20:23

it was me for the last 13 years then I decided to leave my horrible but well paid job in January and do a lovely job for half the salary. So now I have to think a lot more carefully before I purchase but boy do I feel better for it. Not easy though, something had to 'click' before I could make the change, I remember being embarrassed about the amount of things I bought ( sometimes daily) but I just kept on buying clothes and shoes!!!

Sleepyfergus · 20/07/2014 20:37

I recognise myself in that article. Sometimes I just can't stop, and the guilt feels awful. And we're up against it money wise but sometimes I just ignore that....I have starting unsubscribing from emails that ping in daily to avoid temptation, and I deleted all my saved searches on eBay, so I am trying to remove temptation. I've also put on a bit of weight recently so it's silly buying things that might not fit once I lose weight (as I fully intend to start ww again).

A colleague of mine at work gave up clothes shopping for a YEAR. She's quite determined that way, but credit to her as she used to buy loads. She has a nice salary, no kids and traveled a bit with her role so used to pick up nice bits in Asia, US etc. She did it, but I think enjoyed being able to spend again, although she did say it's made her more aware of what's she's buying.

Laska42 · 20/07/2014 20:53

I think i could/should also except tights and knickers (and maybe bras).

Shall we start a no spend on clothes thread from August?

Sleepyfergus · 20/07/2014 20:59

I'm up for it. My only exception might be bras. I don't need anything else at all. But I've had my bras for more years then I care to remember, boring white (ie greyish) M&S tshirt type things. But I'm going to do that measurement thing people rave about on here and see if I should be in an entirely different size and maybe try one to see how I get on. So with the exception of that one bra, no clothes shopping for me for August.

Greengardenpixie · 20/07/2014 21:04

I think that's an excellent idea! Not sure I will be good at it though! esp with Autumn winter stock arriving but I will do it!! I need to do it!!

OP posts:
Laska42 · 20/07/2014 21:20

...it will have to be fromnext month as I do still have a dress still to arrive [blush[ it will have to be my last.. I can wear it for a spring wedding in Spain.. cant I?

greengarden we must be strong.... Im sure we all have lovely autumn and winter things. For example I have 4 pairs of knee boots in Black, Tan and blue and 3 pairs of ankle boots (not to mention brogues courts , party heels and other winter shoes) and cashmere jumpers and cardis and nice skirts, trousers and dresses hardly worn..

Lets commit to binning all new catalogues as they arrive and to unsuscribe from websites.. A lot of my stuff is fairly timeless styles and Im sure we can all continue to look good.

Perhaps we can combine our no spend with posting on what we are wearing (and still looking fab) ..

Laska42 · 20/07/2014 21:22

it was S&B that 'made' me order that dress.. Someone was looking for something for a date and I found that looking around for them! ( and then ordered it myself!!) I am a Bad woman...Blush

Greengardenpixie · 20/07/2014 21:51

Well...in the space of a few days i have ordered a pair of print tapered trousers from topshop, some stuff from the next sale - tops, trousers and a bra, but wont be keeping much of it anway. I have ordered a hippy embroidered blouse from boden..a bargain i didnt need at £17.50 and a skirt and tunic from toast grrrrr....oh and a mini micro satchel from Zatchels!!! None of which i need with exception of the bra!
Blast the internet...it has really been bad for my shopping addiction..that and being off work!!!
I find i do look more now being on S&B too as others post links and i am so tempted so i am completely with you there!!!
Good idea about posting how fantastic we look :)
I have numerous boots too.....
Sadly, i feel the pull of Autumn winter range already......Help!
August here we come!!

Laska42 · 21/07/2014 20:16

Laska42 · 21/07/2014 20:17

Sleepyfergus · 21/07/2014 20:20

Arghhh....I tried stuff on tonight, but did t buy anything! Yay!

However, the Boden catalogue arrived today and is sitting in the hall....calling to me it is Sad
Must restrain myself.

Laska42 · 21/07/2014 20:27

Bin it sleepy,, (you know you can ) there won't be any offers (and if you make it through August you'll be able to decide if you are going to do september after.. it will all still be there noone need Autumn clothes yet .. ) and take your own advice Laska

Sleepyfergus · 21/07/2014 21:17

Ok, it's binned! And actually I remembered that I ordered a top in their Autumn preview weeks and weeks ago so that'll pop through the letterbox this week or next so that'll be a nice surprise (and still in July!)

Oh Laska...i bought a jumpsuit in the Toast sale Blush Its not August right?
I dont have the Boden catalogue anway but looked on line and wasnt at all inspired.
Some of my next order came today but most is going back. Contemplating keeping a black pair of trousers for work from it [purely because i need them ] and i will keep the curling tongs as they are totally amazing.

I got my sewing machine out as had a couple of unworn dresses in the wardrobe which need hemlines shortening.. I am not a natural dressmaker but have been wanting to get better (or reasonable even).. So being too mean/broke to buy fabric and fk it up I thought i might practice by having a go and see if i could runup something using material from something in a charity shop as an experiment ..

So off i trot to Help the Aged in my lunch hour and guess what !! ? Now i am nthe owner of a really cute Gudrun Sjoden sundress i found there and an Anoki East maxi skirt ..

Ok only £8 for both .. but i still dont have any fabric to practice on ..

What am I like?.. but thinking about it is Charity shop ok for no clothes August or cheating? ?

Greengardenpixie · 22/07/2014 21:50

You have good charity shops!!! Gudrun wow!!! and Anoki east! I have ordered a few pieces over the years from Gudrun..all now sold on ebay as i did lose weight after having my last baby. Fantastic prints although some do look sack like. Anoki East has gorgeous ethnic prints too, .....

I dont know...its inexpensive but it is kind of cheating really as its not breaking the habit? Cold turkey ha ha!!!!Saying that, i was looking at my new Boden catalogue, Next catalogue. Just looking.... thankfully i cant be bothered buying for winter atm..in this heat!! so tempted on the White stuff website. In my basket i have a pair of jegging crops...but i have spent way too much and really cant afford it right now so have to stop myself.

As for the sewing well, well done you for getting the machine out. My mum has mine. Im rubbish with it and it frustrates me when everything gets tangled!! [which it often does with me ] I would love to be good at it but can really only muster sewing a button back on or taking up a hem. I do wish i was good at that kind of thing.

On a plus point, i dont think buying material and making clothes is against the rules....its a hobby after all....maybe i should get my machine back Hmm
