I look like a mushroom, I'm gutted!

I have been feeling all fat and grotty lately, so went to hairdressers for a change and now it's a million times worse :(

I showed the lady a photo of what I wanted, and have ended up with nothing like it really. I think it's too dark now? Def too short. I hesitate to say this in case theres a very slim chance my hairdresser is reading, but I really hate it.

Can any one recommend any solutions? Beyond hats / extensions / crying for the next 3 months.

I've included a before / after photo so if I'm outed by it - I'm so desperate I don't care!

Think you could take a fringe though.

Is that a tattoo on your neck?

It's lovely! Big change though so give yourself a few days to get over it xx

Ooh you were quick, thank you!

I'm a bit scared of fringes, would I not look like I was wearing a helmet?! Which could be a step up from looking like a mushroom I guess!

I've woken up this morning feeling so crap, I nearly cried when I saw myself in the mirror (more than usual anyway!)

I think it looks nice too, and I agree that a fringe could improve it. Are both sides the same length? I can't tell if it's tucked behind your ear on your right.

Looks lovely , the cut makes your hair look thick and healthy .

I think it looks lovely! But quite a change from your old style so I understand why you are feeling this way.

Maybe a little sweeping side fringe would soften it a bit? I don't think it needs it but it might make you feel happier.

She has cut it very well - the back is gorgeous imo.

Yup, a tattoo as well to top it off. I asked for it to be kept long enough to be hidden. Gaaaah!

It looks sleek and glossy. Glamourous & much more sophisticated if the blonde was your old hair.

When I've gone short like that (which I do from time to time) I have had to change my look slightly & my makeup. You'll be able to wear different necklaces & earrings with so much more emphasis on your face.

You look good, enjoy the new look & weekend.

I can't see anything wrong with the cut or colour tbh, I rather like it actually.

But of it isn't "you" and you really can't live with it, maybe try and ask another hairdresser if there is anything they could do to modify the cut/colour.

I think it's lovely. Your hair looks really shiny and glossy. Not sure why anyone needs to comment on the tattoo on your neck... it's not really relevant?!

Oh, lots of cross posts - thank you all.

Ok, so it might not be as bad as I first thought? My nephew said with all the bluntness of a 7 year old that I looked beautiful before and he misses my yellow hair so you lot are the first grown ups that I've sought the opinion of.

Ill google side sweeping fringes now see if that helps.

Thank you for al the replies, I wasn't expecting it. I want my old hair back Hmm

I also think it's lovely - but obviously such a big change from how your hair was previously so will take you a while to get used to it. As someone else said, it makes your hair look really thick and healthy. (as an aside - you were very brave to go for such a drastic change - i've thought of doing similar in the past but always chicken out!)

Oh lots more cross posts, thank you.

Ok, I am going to look at the photo again (mirrors will be step 2) and see if I can see what you are all seeing.

I wasn't expecting so many replies so may be a bit patchy in replying as doing breakfast for ds and trying to avoid carnage in the kitchen.

It's a good cut, but I agree that a side fringe might be the answer, and wouldn't make you look like you're wearing a helmet. :)

I went from a bob to a pixie yesterday, and am having similar moments.

Gice yourself a couple of days for your hair to calm down, and for you to get used to it. That's what I'm doing. It's hair. It grows back.

It looks nice! I want my hair like that but it's too fine and floppy to do much with it.

I love it! It makes your hair look so thick and glossy, really healthy. Plus it's a lovely shade, compliments your eyes.

Sort of like this?

Ill stick with the colour a bit longer (more than 12 hours!) and then maybe add more highlight too I think.

I usually am really blasé about my hair, but my confidence was already crap so this time it's knocked me. I don't think in all my 33 years I've ever cried over bloody hair before now!

It looks a llot more mature. My sister had a similar before and after cut once and she hated it we did call her Toad for several months in the way that only sisters can (as in Toad with a mushroom head from Super Mario)! I think yours is better than hers was though so no need to name change Wink

She felt it was too much change to go dark, short and very styled in one go so she went back and got the colour done so it was more like her old colour which made her feel a lot better. It also looked very different after a month as it started to grow and soften a bit and really started to suit her.

It's horrid when you hate your hair. After her experience I'm not brave enough to really change mine a lot. She cried a lot!
