Lightweight waterproof with (ugh) a hood. Not too warm!

There are always loads of threads about warm waterproof coats, but I need the opposite! I am a v hot person (in the sweaty, rather than the glamorous, sense) and need a lightweight waterproof for spring/summer that won't cook me gently.

And it needs to be waterproof and have a hood. I have finally, three DCs in, accepted that I can't carry an umbrella and marshall them all on the school run.

I'm thinking some kind of lightweight parka, but the fashiony ones are usually not terribly waterproof are they? Help!

You might like a waterproof poncho, which will let a lot more air circulate to keep you cool while also keeping the rain off you?

Now I know you to be a stylish person Hopefully, but now is the time to succumb to a Merrell Wakefield or whatever they call it nowadays. It keeps you bone dry including your hair (crucially for me) and is fairly stylish and figure flattering. And cool as long as you don't get the insulated version. If it's pouring down I know I can chuck it on and look impeccable at the other end of a journey by foot. It's not too hideous honestly.

catsofa I did consider a poncho, but suddenly realised that I quite often have DC3 in the sling, and I suspect she would not appreciated being stuck under a poncho. I am avoiding thinking about how to keep her dry in a normal coat, of course... I just can't quite accept one of those baby wearing coats into my life!

Yep hopefully I'm afraid you need to succumb to performance wear . I have a north face waterproof cagoule (in one of my colours of course) but it literally does get worn just on wet days along with my wellies.

Stop faffing about and just wear something appropriate for the weather!

Perfect colours QueenC, but I would rather chew off my own arm and use it as an umbrella buy something sensible and boring.

Someone linked a nice hooded trench recently, that was stylish - will see if I can find it. Came in grey or navy I think and properly waterproof but nice belted trench shape.

I am vainer about my hair and weight than anything else, so my criteria was that the hood would keep my hair dry without hanging on to it, even in windy wet weather whilst toddler wrangling, and that it would have a slimming shape. Merrell Wakefield did the job.

Hmm I need one too. I tried one in fatface last year but tbh it looked far too similar to my cagoule to justify keeping it. My friend has a similar one but it looks great on her, though.

A hooded trench would be more acceptable I think. Although I'm wondering if I should just buy something deeply practical and keep it locked up on all but the rainiest days.

Oh me too Hopefully - in my case I think it's the combo of being on the short side with big norks. I need a pretty fitted silhouette or I look rather erm matronly

I have a pac-a-mac I got in topshop 4 years ago which is my most used item. They pop up in different places, Tesco had some last year. Next have one at the moment which I am tempted by just for a change.

You need a Goretex jacket which is waterproof and breathable.

I've got a Berghaus fleece and outer jacket. Cost £150 but was worth every single penny. I am warm in the cold and cool in the warm.

Get one of those super light weight north face ones or berghaus is a bit cheaper. Mine is fantastic and the ladies ones are decently fitted and really very waterproof.

I have a North Face jacket and the cut is much better than other outdoorsy coats I've tried but but I can't really get over the fact that I am wearing a cagoule
