How do you make a drapey t-shirt look elegant...

...rather than schlumpy? I've been trying on Everlane ones (I'm in the US), which get good reviews, but they just make me (size UK14) look like I'm wearing DH's washed out undershirts.

Is it a body shape thing? Do they only look good on slender waify types? Should I give up and stick to more fitted t-shirts? (But those tend to look so matronly on me, too... sigh.)

Nah I can't wear this type of top either, they look terrible on me! I'm a 14 top, 12 bottom.

I wondered if it was because I tend to wear loose ish fit jeans, and the rule apparently is either fitted bottoms/loose top or vice versa Confused but it just looks so wrong on me, my shoulders are wider than my hips.

What sort of body shape have you gotBab?

Hmm, fairly straight up and down, but not boyish - I have a wide waist and beer belly, and hips and shoulders are about the same width, but I wear a 28GG in bras, so I wind up with lots of fabric flapping around the middle and looking really sloppy.

Sorry but I don't think the T you've shown could be at all flattering Sad - certainly not tucked in! Cap sleeves and a v-neck would be so much better. I am very apple shaped but without the boobs. I wear T-shirts loose with a big scarf worn like a shemagh.

I agree with Mandy!

Admittedly I've got no fashion sense whatsoever but that Tshirt you linked to is pretty underwhelming. What with the ill fitting jeans and the sulky looking model I'm surprised they sell any!

....and what IS it with that pose? In what universe does "round shoulders, hips forward" make clothes look good?

I think the answer is you don't.

Fair enough! It just seems really hard at the moment to find t-shirts that aren't drapey in some way. Maybe it's to do with there being so much thin cheap cotton and polyester around? Or maybe I need to get off my lazy arse and go look in the shops more.
