Apologies for the DM link but here goes :

I think she still looks great but this picture really illustrates the extent to which all the magazine pics and ads are basically photoshopped the shit out of, aren't they !!? I mean, I always realised that, but still ! I've seen KM in magazine ads recently and there is not a mark on her face. She still looks radiant here, even with the lines around her eyes, but wouldn't it be so bloody refreshing if you saw more of this in the magazines. She's not 20 anymore, as this pic demonstrates, so why make her look like a 20yr old in the ads ? These companies really do think we're as thick as shit don't they ?

Ouch! I think she looks a lot older than 40, she has more wrinkles around her eyes than most of my friends in their 50's. I would still like her bone structure though.

It would, but I doubt it will happen.

I think she's great.

She has more lines around her eyes than me (i'm 40 in July) but I have more noticeable lines on the side of my face. I think it's pretty impressive that she's not gave into the whole botox and fillers routine. Must be under pressure to do so in her industry.

I'm in my mid-40s but I don't smoke and can't stay in the sun, as I am sensitive to it. I think she has aged more than she would have if she wasn't a smoker, but she still looks elegant and edgy to me.

With photoshop so prevalent in magazines, perhaps she doesn't see the point of fillers etc...

FFS, that first picture has been included for the sole purpose of the shock factor that a 40-year-old doesn't have flawless 16-year-old skin. Those wrinkles are nothing, as you can tell from all the other non-mega-close up pictures where she looks absolutely gorgeous.

She's beautiful. I admire her for the fact that she does look like an older woman, and a stunning one at that - just look at her bone structure! She's not trying to look 25; I don't think there is any way she has had botox or other fillers. She looks great Smile

Jacob - yeah I know it's just for the shock factor...'tis the Daily Fail after all.....

I don't think it's news that the daily mail's article content and editorial bias tend toward misogynistic....

I agree that the amount of airbrushing in mags is terrifying. It must be disconcerting to be a model and not recognise your face half the time.

Her hairstyle is quite unforgiving, I think having hair round your face softens the lines.
But I love the pyjama suit and think she looks quite classic.

The worst thing about it is the lie that we're all sold that at 40 we can still look 20.

We can't. I look young for my age (40's), but I still have lines, slight jowls, slight uneven skin.

It's depressing to be constantly told that 60 year olds can look like 40 year olds used to. Some women in their 60's look amazing but close up they don't look 40.

We are made to feel that ageing is somehow our fault.

I have similar face shape to her and its nice to see her from that angle as I can and do sometimes look haggard (older though and considering a fringe!)

Ubik1 · 15/04/2014 17:06

It's just poisonous isn't it.

When she 'turned 40' they ran a massive picture spread 'Kate at 40' like women grow horns at 40 or something.

It's in the same league as the constant litany of pictures of celebs who have lost their baby weight just weeks after giving birth.

And airbrushing - well the DM is no slouch at that

I think she looks better than ever, I really do.
Her cheekbones and bone structure is amazing Envy

It's the usual thing - they took 250 pictures of her, in 249 of them she looked as stunning as ever but Wait! One of them makes her look a bit older than her years!

"Hold the front page fellahs! shouts an overweight, ugly, balding, greasy journalist as he runs wheezing down to the main desk, "I've got the story of the year! Supermodel doesn't look as great as usual in one picture out of hundreds. Or some other headline. Pick something patronising though, eh?"

noddyholder · 15/04/2014 17:14

I don't think she looks older than her age she looks about 35-40 to me.

I can just imagine those 'orrible DM staff (can't call them journalists)…

'ooh, fab. A photo of Kate Moss looking wrinkly. Let's use that and pretend we think she looks demure but hopefully everyone will add comments saying she looks haggard. But we haven't directly slagged her off, noooo'.

I was going to say. Lifestyle does affect how we look and how our health is. Just today, I looked at myself, and I know that I went through a bout of illness, and my face looked wrinkly and dry. I am only 36. When I wet my face with a face cloth, it looks hydrated again. It's moment like this that you think you have to stop the clock, reassess how your life is and try to live it better. Healthier.

I am not sure if the photos are all photoshopped, than a case of what clothing can make a person look like. If you look at the closer picture, it shows her more "real", but then the ones which are taken from a distance do make her look very rounded and very young as well. That is the effect of photography.

I am not sure of the paisley pattern dress. It is a very big change from her previous rock chick look. This is the other thing about the fashion industry, you cannot really grow old in it. If you were pitched in a particular way or style, then you will forever be pitched that way, and that your perception or style is totally who you are. But we know that is not really the case.

I am not sure if Top Shop should be her muse. How long can "rock" stays in British style ? It has been going for an awful long time...

I haven't read these style magazines for a long time. I just try to dress my age, that I think is appropiate. It doesn't help that now suddenly there is a lot of people who have disposable incomes, and you get confused on that age hierarchy of things. I was going to comment about the paisley pattern. I remember my mother buying beddings of this pattern, and that was almost one generation ago. 70s ? Is this now "retro" ? I do not quite get this. lol. Sigh...

The tone of that article is just awful isn't it? I think it's so refreshing that Kate, someone whose fame and fortune is all down to their looks, hasn't resorted to botox and fillers.

Her face may sag and wrinkle but she'll always have those amazing cheekbones.

squoosh · 15/04/2014 17:41

Hate the paisley number though, sorry Kate!

Headline: "Woman turns 40!"
There is such a strong misogynistic glee about it all; as if the DF is saying "oh, everyone wanted to fuck Kate Moss didn't they, but NOW look at her! She has a couple of crows feet and is therefore a crone now. Hah ha ha !"

Except that she still looks amazing, and always will.
And, no, she doesn't look older than her years. She is smiling, and, OMG, lines appear under her eyes. That has happened to my eyes since I was about 22 (also high cheekbones).
You can have a beautiful face WITH expression lines. You don't have to look 15 to be sexy.

Rock on Kate, I say.
