How many items of each type of clothing do you own?

NotALondoner · 12/04/2014 17:42

The house is a total and utter mess so I thought I would count my clothes Grin.

I have been shocked to the very core of my being. I like to think I am not materialistic, and don't go doolally over clothes like some people do. But..........

Hats 2

Gloves 3

Scarves 14

Coats/Jackets 9

Tops 49 omg

Skirts 6

Trousers 7

Jumpers 14

Leggings 6

Tights 1

Knickers 15

Bras 4

Night clothes 4

Socks 31 pairs

Vests 11

Shoes 16.

Of all that, I live in one coat, one pair of jeans, two pairs of shoes, three jumpers, one scarf and about seven tops. I accept that anyone looking at the S&B board is likely to have more than an average interest in clothes but how does that list compare to your wardrobe?

I don't have exact figures for everything but I know I have over 40 skirts Blush

I really culled a lot. Only have what I wear really. I do try and wear it all or it goes in the zippy underbed storage bag and every now and then I go through it and give stuff to SIL (post baby and doesnt want to shop yet) or charity

There are not enough hours in the day for me to be able to count everything.

Too much of everything is the answer.

And I am rubbish at throwing stuff out, so I have lots that I don't wear any more.

I am going I get rid of more. Have a few jumpers too. Coats are my favourite.

Not enough hours in the day to want to count everything but OP's list sounds fair to me. I've probably got a LOt more items of footwear than that though, if you count all boots, wellies, slippers, sandals, trainers, pumps, etc as well as shoes.
Oh, and you haven't mentioned dresses.

I couldnt even begin to count. It would take me a day or more to go through my dressing room! I don't care if its too much. I don't like to clear out very often and space is not an issue.

Over 40 skirts? I don't know whether to say oh dear or respect!

I don't have any dresses as such - I have four very long tops that some might wear as mini dresses but I don't want anyone to feel ill so I wear them as tops over trousers.

And I have quite a lot of stuff - maybe 15 items??? in my sewing basket and about another 15 that are too small to currently wear, but hopefully they will come into circulation in the next year or so.

Shall I put all my favourites in storage so I am forced to wear other stuff? Iyt's all nice pleasant stuff but I just reach for my 'uniform' day after day.

I couldn't even begin to count... I once bayed at least 50 things and it looked like I'd taken nothing out of my cupboard!

So, on the flip side how many items do we actually need? I often programmes set in the 60s or before, when obviously there had been clothes rationing and shortages, and think how people did manage without heaving armfuls of clothing home from Primark and buying new stuff every year. Anyone like to put together the ultimate number of clothes? I have stopped buying shoes and will wear the ones I have until they wear out, only replacing from need (eg I need flattish black shoes for work but only one pair not the 4 I have now) - but that will be a LONG time. In my dreams I would like to have loads of money and buy a (sorry, I hate this phrase) "capsule wardrobe" and just wear a small selection of clothes all the time, accessorised nicely.

Report
OneLittleLady · 12/04/2014 19:58

I have been collecting them for years!

Report
Financeprincess · 12/04/2014 21:37

So have I, but I've only got 31. I must catch up.

Re capsule wardrobe: good in theory, but I would get bored of wearing the same stuff, plus I am really good at dropping food on things. You need back-ups for when your favourites are at the dry cleaner!

Calamitously Wrong that is what I thought my list would look like, only with fewer dresses and more tops. I am genuinely surprised at the amount of stuff I had when I counted.

still too many!
I had loads last year when I culled my wardrobe I went from about 200 items to about 90 not counting underwear or socks.
now have;
jeans and leggings 13 (never wear trousers).
skirts 10
dresses 10
knitwear 16
tops 24
jackets 13
plus;
boots 9
shoes 10

this year I've only bought a bikini and a bra.
cus I want to wear the clothes that I already have out and not clutter up my wardrobes like before, everything was creased, half didn't fit,
suit me/my life. I was definately hoarding clothes.
