Fuck this shit. I've decided I'm going retro with my skin care.

It occurred to me the other day that I like Steam Cream because it's like a cold cream, but lighter.

I used cold cream (Nivea) every night throughout my teens and early twenties.

It's occurred to me that I've only ever adapted my skin care when stuffs been discontinued or because I've got older and you are supposed to change and you age.

In all honesty my skins no different to it was 15 years ago apart from the odd wrinkle.

I picked up some Nivea last week pm in pound, and and I had forgotten his much crap it gets off my face and how nice it leaves my skin.

So I thought back, and I've spent the last 10 years trying to find a cleanser as good as Himalaya cleansing milk, and non have been, not even close. Even Lancôme and Clarins. You could see the grime come off your skin, and it melted make up in seconds (stung the eyes though so used Nivea to remove eye up).

So I've ordered some on Ebay that is imported.

And ditto for Ponds Vanishing Cream. That was so good in the mornings that I could go without make up and it kept my shine free all day. And when I put make up no primer was required.

So I've sourced that too. Up till now never occurred to me to see if they were still been manufactured else where in the world.

I am happy and excited, and can't wait till they come Grin

What other products were really brilliant that you just can't get in the UK anymore?

Doesn't quite answer the question, because you can still buy it, but I recently rediscovered Anne French cleansing milk and remembered how magnificent it is at clearing make up from your face. I got too high and mighty for it in my early 20s.

Yes, I think I was a little guilty of earning a decent wage for once and deciding that premium must be better Grin

I should have said discontinued or forgotten products, rather than just discontinued.

Anne French is the business, I agree. And what was that toner (?) of the 80s - basically like painstripper? 5008 or something - some sort of number. That got the dirt out like you would not believe.

My skin is shit at the moment and it sort of coincides with me throwing money at skincare over the last year. I stuck some Thick&Greasy Nivea on last night and have decided it's my new night moisturiser.

I have very dry skin and nothing is as good as Astral for me. I've tried all sorts, plus eve lom, oil cleansing, clarins. I've recently gone back to dove soap and astral like I used in my teenage years and my skin is gorgeous :)

I forgot that lipcote existed and got really excited the other day when I found it again in boots. My lippy has stayed put all day today. Woohoo!

Was the toner the blue one?

No, it was brown. Some series of numbers that involved a 5 and an 8 in the name - it's really bugging me now.

I used to use a Witch hazel toner in a brown bottle bug don't remember and numbers. Did sting like a bitch though Grin

Lipcote was fab as long as you had a gloppy Bodyshop lip balm to wear over it to stop you going crusty.

Was it Innoxa 41? That smelt like paintstripper but was fab stuff for oily skin. It was apparently developed for the women in the munitions factories to get the grease off their skin during WWII and I used it in the 1970s and 80s

Oddly enough I have gone back to using plain old Nivea as a night cream. I'd forgotten how thick and sticky it is. Did someone say they used it to remove make-up rather than as a moisturiser?

I remeber that toner, I used to live by the mantra 'if it stings its working'. Can you still buy ten o six , I'd love some!

EdithWeston · 12/04/2014 16:34

Ten-o-six is still available in Australia.

And it's the same as the currently fashionable "micellar" stuff. Emperor's new clothes?

Ten 0 Six!! Yes! Why did I have 5 and 8 in my head? Was the 5/8 thing that green perfume?

Marvellous - I'll be paintstripping my face back into shape pronto. Amazon sell the stuff :o
