Decent quality trousers for work for 'curvy' legs and not black

I'm trying to put together a work wardrobe ready for mat leave to end in a few weeks. I need a pair of trousers, but skinny / tapered don't suit as I have big thighs and calves so need something looser. I'd also like to avoid black and get some that go with the lovely autumn colours I've bought tops in like browns, mustard, greens.

Any thought of where to look, and what shape? I had some m&s trousers pre-DCs but I didn't fancy any of the (non black...) I saw on the website.

I'm not sure what size you are- but I've recently invested in some bistro trousers from boden, which went round my thighs nicely!! I liked them so much I've ordered a second pair. Have a number of colour options.

I'll take a look, thank you.

I'm about a 14 I think, but haven't worn trousers much since DS was born 7m ago...

I've just received these by courier about half an hour ago. Much more flattering than the bistro crops.

They're lovely, very flattering indeed and good thick material. I am ample of thigh Grin and these do not do that horrible 'crease in towards your crotch' thing at the top of your leg that most trousers do.

I was about to recommend the bistro crops too - very accommodating for thighs.

SorrelForbes - what is the length like on the Chelsea trousers? I had to buy the longer length of the bistro crops because the regular finished mid-calf (not flattering IMO). I should add that I am short of leg and a fairly average 5'6".

I'm not sure I have very good ankles for displaying, but will give them a try.

I love the way that Boden say that the Chelsea trousers work for all sizes & shapes. Evidently anyone who has a difference of more than 6-7inches between waist & hips just doesn't exist. I did try them as they have some elastane so thought they might stretch enough on the hips but No.
Ujjayi - I'd say you need the longer length - I tried regular in both these & the Bistro crops - which were even more disastrous fit than the Chelsea's - & I'd say they came out about the same length (although with Boden's completely erratic sizing you never really know).

Another vote for the Boden Chelsea ones . Most comfortable trousers I've had for a long time - and most Boden ones no good for me, including the bistro ones.

The Chelseas aren't too baggy but not tight either. Also seem to fit my hourglass figure ( about 10 ' ' difference between waist and hip) really well. I'm 5'9"" and the L graze my ankles as intended.

I've got a 29" waist and 41" hips (12" difference) and the Chelsea trousers in a 12 fit really well. The waist is a smidgeon below my waist but the rise is high enough to avoid builder's bum.

Ujjayi I'm 5'4" and they sit on my ankle bone. I'd quite like them to be about 1.5" shorter actually.

OP I have short sturdy legs and wear Monsoon trousers. I find they fit and look smart. And last!

Is it straightforward to order and return from Boden? I've never had anything from them, but am also generous of thigh and calf so if these are recommended I'm interested...I'm with the OP in not wanting black, and ideally not massively officey.

However, trousers on me are far more often miss than hit in the changing rooms, so not sure about shelling out all that dosh on a maybe.

Also, if I'd just seen them in a pic, and not linked from a thread about chunkier legs, I'd never in a million years think I'd get them on Confused

Snap mixedpeel! They don't look like they'd be flattering but I've ordered a couple of pairs to try, although there weren't all the sizes I'd have liked to try. It's easy to return, just wrap it back up, pop the label on, and take to the post office. As long as you have a free returns offer it's fine. I had free returns and delivery and 11% off in an email this afternoon! (Code was A83C)

I'll also take a look at monsoon.

Thanks for the code, Jenni. I might try it, really on the strength of seeing how sound Sorrel's advice on bra sizing is.

Though I promise not to stamp my feet and blame you, Sorrel, if they don't turn out to fit Wink

Just to agree they really are very easy to order and return from. You may want to use the code I just have: A72E . Gets you 15% off and free post and returns.

Oh gosh, no feet stamping please Wink

Can I just really recommend the sorrel jeans from white stuff. I have thighs for days and they fit nicely in the straight leg. They have some great colours and I think would be ok for work if it wasn't too formal an environment.

I am a 12/14 with sturdy legs, and I find that Sainsbury's trousers fit really well! I have 3 pairs of coloured chinos and some black work trousers; all look and feel considerably more expensive than the£15-£20 I paid for them.

Thanks for the tips here. The boden Chelsea turn ups are fab! I wouldn't think they'd be so flattering. The vole colour is perfect too, but unfortunately they only had my size in long and they really are too long :(

Top tip is to ring them. I got a pair of trousers that I love which must have been a return- as it was showing up as no stock on their website.

Glad you like the Chelseas. My second pair arrived this morning ( agree it's always worth ringing Boden for returns not showing up on screen btw).

Now wondering about my next pair. Could I ask what colour the Mole actually are, please? Light grey ? Taupe? Mauvish tone? If so what sort of mauve (Bluish? Pinkish? Light ? Dark?).

polyhymnia · 08/04/2014 22:45

Sorry, Vole, not Mole!

Sorrel I'm very similar proportions to you tho' a bit taller.
I'm also very very hourglass with a similar differential between waist and hips.
I've never got on with Boden trousers....but I think you may have inspired me to try them again (I'll wait for a code before jumping)

Best code I know of at moment is A72E - 15% off and free post and returns.

Redoubtable I realised just after using the code that everything on the website is 15% off with free P&R anyway. The chelsea trousers seem to be selling fast (gone in a couple of colours already and 7 week wait for others) so that's why I decided to order today rather than wait any longer.
