Any products you use for different things to their actual purpose?

I'm 25 weeks pregnant and the skin on my face was a scaly mess of acne and horror. I had had a stay in hospital and it seemed to disagree with my skin in a big way. About 6 weeks ago, on a whim- a very stupid whim- I put some of my Boots medicated mint, lavender and marshmallow foot cream on it.

Now I was only confident enough to do that because I don't have sensitive skin at all and I know for a lot of people this would cause terrible pain and suffering, but honestly my skin has never looked better. It is soft, spot free and glowing! It must be the medicated element.

So what products do you use for purposes not listed on the label?

I use Vagisil on my eczema when it's so sore I want to peel my skin off.

Did check with GP once - if it can go "down there" it can go on your face.

I am going to try Lanacane anti chafing gel as a primer as recommended on here!

Oooh Jimmy really? I'm so trying that. I always put off buying primer as it seems expensive for what it is so this could be a winner.

Jimmy I bought Lanacane anti-chafe too and it is great. Has that smooth, silicone texture that the Clarins primer I used before had

Baby shampoo to take off eye make up.

Optician recommended it - much cheaper than anything else!

I used origins mega mushroom serum on eczema once and it calmed it right down. Unfortunately it's hideously expensive so it's an emergency use only thing.

Intensive overnight foot cream was good as handcream when they were very dry and sore.

Lip balm on split nipples when Bf

Lansinoh nipple cream is the best lip treatment ever. A tiny bit goes a very long way too.

I had almost a whole tube left after dd sussed feeding and thought if it's good enough for pink bits on boobs it's good enough for pink bits on face... but mainly it is too expensive to chuck! It does have all the same ingredients as fancy, pricey lip balms.

I use Lansinoh nipple cream on my hands when they're bad. It's pure lanolin and works better than any hand cream I've tried. Not cheap but, as another poster has said, you only need a tiny bit.

lol, digit. Hope the pile cream worked for you. I put a little on in the morning under my makeup, kinda of like a spot reduction. Dont know if it works but gives me a comforting feeling

Body shop tea tree night cream as a primer.
Calamine lotion on spots.

Lanacane for primer, coconut oil for...everything, but especially hair, hands and lips! Aloe Vera gel as hair product. I also wash my hair with conditioner instead of shampoo (use very thin, silicone-free stuff or it won't work).

I am so chuffed the lanacane works, will be trying it tomorrow as my existing primer ran out today.

Love the lansinoh tips, have almost a whole tube upstairs and my hands are in desperate need of attention.

Keep these ideas coming!

I use baby wipes to clean any number of things. It seems to get anything off of anything...

My mum gets really sore fingers, it is like her skin is paper thin, they split and she has to put plasters over them. No cream seems to help. I will pass on the nipple cream and Lanacane tips to her - she will be the talk of the town with a shopping list like that!

I use foot cream (with urea) on my upper arms to keep the kerotis pilaris(sp?) at bay.

Only thing along with sunshine that works.

On a similar theme, I use Sudocrem for a primer and on spots. Bepanthen is the product of choice for healing tattoos and I now also use on my lips and cuticles.

Dim question....what's a primer and why did I need to use one please?

Report
randomfemale · 26/03/2014 22:19

Oblique27 primer applied to skin before foundation help to keep your make-up in place/make it go on skin better. Essential for me and my horrible oily skin.
