BB creams, still don't get them. Are they just tinted moisturisers with new name?

I tried the YSL BB cream recently and liked it but was too intimidated rushed to ask the beauty counter lady how I wore it. Under foundation? On its own? With moisturiser or without? Sorry, I know it's been done before but am ready to switch tinted moisturiser/foundation (only wear latter for v grand occasions0 but can't work out if I'd need other products too

Yes, it's tinted moisturiser. I think they were hoping we wouldn't notice and would buy them both.

I don't get them either. Not moisturising enough to use without moisturiser and not enough coverage to use without foundation. So you end up using 3 products where 2 would do.

Love primer though!

So they're not the same as primers Confused

I think they're hoping we'll buy serum, moisturiser, tinted moisturiser, BB cream, CC cream, primer and foundation.

Have I missed any?

I get better coverage with the ones I've tried than with tinted moisturiser. My skin is old and dry so I find foundation too caked on looking these days, BB cream is a godsend for me.

Yes, it's tintend moituriser. I don't like foundation, so I prefer it. Use Maybelline one.

OP i love your name

I wondered that too. I use it because I don't like heavy foundation, but I wouldn't use it without moisturiser as it sticks on my skin.

CC creams make me laugh - it's as if they thought, oh we've got something new, how do we convince people it's better than BB creams. I'm waiting for the double Ds next !

Thank you, NR. You either get it, or think I'm mad and rambling Grin

And is CC cream also codeword for tinted moisturiser? Glad my BB suspicions are being confirmed. Sounds like if I bought the YSL and wore it over moisturiser (Oh and serum, suckered into believing that's a must), then I'd be sorted, temporarily at least.

CC creams appear to be heavier - according to the free samples I picked up from Clinique the other week. They are meant to be better for oldmature skin, but shan't be buying it after getting the freebie. It's meant to adjust to your own skin colour, but obviously didn't so I spent the day looking like a slightly superannuated satsuma, good job they had the free samples or I would have spent money to look like that.

Love the idea of CC/DD/EE creams like bras multiplying ad-infinitum.

I really like BB cream, use the L'Oreal Nude Magique. I don't wear foundation, have tried umpteen and hate the look of all of them.

BB just sort of blends in freckles, pink bits etc but still looks very natural.

I never use moisturiser, can't be bothered so I guess at least I'm getting a bit when I use the BB cream.

I"m a bit of a convert to bb cream. Someone recommended boots version and it was cheap so I bought it.

I find it heavier than tinted moisturiser but lighter than foundation. Gives me a v natural dewy finish. Find myself using it instead of my estee lauder foundation. I sometimes use it all by itself just to improve how my skin looks! So no other makeup.

I definitely do not use foundation on top of it that is too much, for me anyway and gives me spots.

I use a L'Oreal bb cream. I have tried loads thanks to my mothers compulsive purchasing and subsequent hating of just about every brand out there. Most are heavier than tinted moisturiser and I use them for day to day use and save foundation for nights out. They even out my skin tone a bit and look a bit less heavily made up than foundation makes me look.
They are all so different though and it did take a lot of my mothers cast offs before I found one I liked that was a nice in between of tinted moisturiser and foundation.

Lidl Osiris BB cream is only about £2 a tube and it is lovely. I use it instead of foundation, it is light, moisturising and nicer than the expensive foundation I was using before.

I actually mix my Vichy BB cream with my Maybeline foundation and it gives me good coverage but a bit dewy too!

I do think sometimes we are being sold a bill of goods with all these bloody products like primers, serums, bb creams etc. I think you have to be a bit discerning, get samples and see what works for you.
