Does anyone else dislike going to the hairdresser? Or spa treatments?

Just wondered if anyone else didn't like it or finds spa treatments boring? I dislike the hairdressers as everyone I have ever been to spends half the time trying to up sell me expensive products I don't need. I do like spa treatments but only occasionally. Wondered what you thought?

don't mind the hairdresser. Never been to a spa because I can think of nothing duller.

Not all hairdressers do the hard sell but I know they make £££ on their products sold- something like 80% mark up up the staff are pushed to sell.

I quite like a massage at a spa but also think the whole thing is expensive. It's quite nice if you can get a good deal and use the sauna, swim at the same time if you enjoy that. But I'd never pay £80 for a facial.

Hate going to the hairdressers, feel it's a waste of my time.. Force myself to go every 6-8 weeks for the sake of my hair though...

Dislike spas, don't like massages, hate beauty treatments but force myself to go to the beauticians every 2 weeks for eyelash extension infills..

I really don't like other folk I'm not close to mucking about with me and find it so boring and not at all relaxing like others appear to..

I don't like either.

I have a hairdresser come to my house now - I can wash my own hair, it's much quicker, costs me about half of what going to a salon did and she'll trim DS's hair too.

I don't like being touched by people I don't know. Hence I really dislike anything spa related. I've also endured lots of hairdressers who don't understand my light fine hair, and have had my hair cut and styled regularly by the same person since I was sixteen. She knows me and my family and doesn't push anything. I still go to her regularly although she is three hours away and in a different country!

me, miss!

I do NOT enjoy either of those I'm afraid. I wish I did, I know I am odd, but I can't help it. I find it boring, sometimes annoying (eg. the hairdresser's professional fake chit-chat) and 99% of the times I am not over the moon with the results.

I like my hairdresser these days & it's a small local salon so there's no hard sell. Hated going previously & really don't like spa type things.

Depends what spa.
I go to Grayshott spa twice a year for 4 days, on my own. I love having no conversation, lovely food, great treatments.

I Go to the hairdressers every 6 weeks, have facials every 6 weeks with a beautician I've gone to for nearly 20 years. However I've also had shocking treatments with other people.

I hate both.

Incredibly boring.

I would sooner blow George Bush than go to a spa.

Hairdressers I don't mind but rarely go because in 45 years I've yet to find one that will give me a decent haircut. I have shit hair.

Don't mind the hairdresser, but I only go when I absolutely have to, so once every three months. I have to ask them not to do a head massage when they are washing my hair as I absolutely hate it, makes me tense up when it's meant to have the opposite effect!
I've never had a spa treatment or a massage and to be honest I wouldn't want to. I know lots of people find them relaxing but it would just completely freak me out. I'm glad I'm not alone!

I hate getting my haircut, either I engage in boring chat or manage to get away with not having to and then feel like a grump they can't wait to get rid of. And with spa treatments I used to worry they were secretly being critical of my body. These things bring out the worst in my self esteem i'm afraid!

Hate the hairdresser, but love massages - if I'm ever rich I'll have one every week. I have really sore, tight shoulders and back and massage really helps. I've never been to a proper spa, and I've only ever had a facial once - it was a bit meh and cost £125, so I haven't been in a hurry to repeat it.

I go to the hairdresser because I need to - I need highlights and a good cut now I am in my 50s. My hairdresser is very nice and very reasonable (45 cut and blow dry, 100 half head of highlights c&b and 140 for a full head - that's very good for London). She never tries to sell me anything and sometimes gives me wine Grin.

I have never ever been to a spa but I am considering gel nails Shock. I treat myself to a regular pedicure because I have a bad back and can't always reach my toenails Sad

Love having treatments at the spa but can't be arsed with the swim, sauna, steam side of it.

I hate the hairdressers though.

I am not keen! I hate making polite conversation with people so I find it really awkward.

Never had a massage or facial as I think I would feel the need to fill the silences when I think you are supposed to lie there relaxing.

I do have my nails done every 2 weeks and every few times, have my toenails done/eyebrows waxed so I can be there for 90 minutes. still hate the conversation-making but the lady who does it is lovely so I can just about bear it to have pretty nails (very important to me) Wink

I love my hairdresser because he is quick and efficient and always on time. I have progressively weaned my whole family onto him and they are all just as happy as I am. But I agree - on the whole I am not overly fond of treatments. I have my feet pedicured and my hands manicured at the hairdresser's from time to time but that is about as much as I can stand.

I find the hairdresser a waste of time. There are always other things I would rather be doing, but as I have a professional job, I have to look smart and that means going regularly.

The only spa treatment I like is a massage. Every time I have one I wonder why I don't do it more often. I don't get the point of facials and actively dislike manicures (get OFF my cuticles before I vom on you).

I hate spas - where everything is a bit rushed and cheap (Champneys, I am looking at you).

But I have a great independent beautician and about once a month I go to her for a facial and massage, 2 hours in total and utterly relaxing.

I like getting my hair washed when I get it cut, but the whole hairdresser thing is not my thing, just a necessity.

So glad it's not just me! I got so sick of being given the hard sell over products. I also hate that bit when you get a 'head massage' and feel my buttocks clenching when the hairdresser approaches with whatever 'miracle' serum she's going to slap on my head.

Having said that I would highly recommend foot massage if done by a professional. You feel like you're walking on air afterwards. But the only time I had a proper body massage was in a Hong Kong hotel and when I was supposed to be relaxing, like spooky I ended up having a long conversation with the girl who was furious about the 'horrible English businessmen who think I am a prostitute and offer me money for extras'. I ended up commiserating and feeling even more tense afterwards.

I quite like spa stuff, but the massage has to be the really tough sort not hand wavy. And I rarely pay for anything like that since I learned to do my own shellac nails.

But I hate going to the hairdresser. They never listen to what I want, and I never come out feeling fabulous, just slightly disappointed.

Hate the hairdressers. Hate small talk. Now I live in a country where i don't speak the language I might try to go again. I can just show a photo on my phone, can't I?

Loathe both. Tedious. Tiresome.
Thankfully my hair is fair with greys beginning to shine through at a scary rate recently a few highlights, that only need doing a couple of times a year. My hairdresser is great and I get 2 to 3 months out of a cut.

I hate spas. Like another pp, I'm not comfortable with strangers touching/massaging etc me. I'm always thinking of all the other stuff I could be doing, I think in generals facials are a waste of money, I feel I've been duped if I ever have one.

I hate grooming! So boring! I love clothes and fashion though so it's not like I'm not into how I look.
