Mint Velvet - is it as nice as the price tag suggests?

Just had the catalogue through and there are quite a few things I like the look of. I hate being disappointed by poor quality though when I've splashed out on pricey items.

Can anyone advise?

Thank you!

It's a mixed bag IMHO.
I think there are nice pieces but I have yet to find an item which is both nice (and not a bit per Una) and well made with decent fabric.

LaTrucha · 08/02/2014 13:22

i had some black slim leg trousers from the sale recently and i was very happy with them. i can't pay full price though.

AnaisB · 08/02/2014 13:42

What pagwatch said.

AGoodPirate · 08/02/2014 13:49

I found them all very big. Had to send everything back!

Annianni · 08/02/2014 14:16

I tried some jeans, they were nice soft denim, but big size wise and very high waisted... I looked like my mum in them Hmm

DrNick · 08/02/2014 14:50

no, its very well styled.

its all grey/

a lot of the knitwear is just viscose/acrylic. SHoes are WAY overpriced - even Russell and Bromley look cheap in comparison

I like their polyester evening tops often but always get in sale. This kinda thing www.mintvelvet.co.uk/slate-sheer-blouson-top/tops/mint-v/fcp-product/3710

You could get a classic cashmere one for that

theplanets · 08/02/2014 14:54

DrNick the polyester evening tops looks lovely! Too expensive for me but maybe in a Sale. Do you know if it comes up 'long' as I'm 5ft 3 so might drown me. Do you put that type of top in the washing machine or hand wash? :)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/02/2014 14:57

I think it's really overpriced and not very good quality. A shame, as I love grey!

ShoeWhore · 08/02/2014 14:57

I've got a dark grey sweater from there and it's fab - great flattering shape and still looks like new (think this is at least the third winter I've worn it) it wasn't cheap but has worked out good value overall.

DrNick · 08/02/2014 14:58

delicates wash with handwash liquid I think.
its only polyester

DrNick · 08/02/2014 15:00

I'm a big fan. Its exactly my style. Its a bit overpriced so I usually buy in sales or with discount codes. I have been happy with the quality of anything that I have bought but I have disregarded numerous items because I didnt the fabric content. I love their jeans. They dont fit well until theyve had a few goes in the washing machine and dryer. Then they are a great fit.

GeorginaWorsley · 08/02/2014 16:21

I love the style but find it expensive .
I buy odd bits throughout the season and in the sale.
It has high resale value on EBay though!

Chewbecca · 08/02/2014 17:03

I'm really pleased with all my MV items, have some knitwear and 2 summer silk dresses plus a couple of evening tops.
I'm short & round and find the styling is generally flattering, I get the feeling they're designing for me.

myron · 08/02/2014 17:29

I've only bought items in the sale. The petite length trousers/jeans fit exactly - I'm 5ft 3". I have a silk organza dress plus a sheer layer top and 2 jumpers. I do try to buy the items with some wool content though but I do that wherever I purchase clothes. Didn't the brand arise from the ashes of ex-Principles' designers?

1974rach · 08/02/2014 17:38

I love MV...haven't ordered from a catalogue though - I get my stuff from John Lewis cause I have to try stuff on.

SofaCanary · 08/02/2014 19:04

The colours are all a bit watery and grey looking, do nowt for me.

Floisme · 08/02/2014 19:18

I just see shapeless, grey synthetic at ludicrous prices. I actually prefer Boden Grin

Just too grey for me....can't get beyond the greyness!

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 08/02/2014 19:38

I got a really nice dress last autumn, a black and khaki dress for evenings. Sounds horrid, but it is lovely and really suits me.
