Horizontal Stripes...

I thought horizontal stripes were meant to be unflattering - why are they everywhere. Is this not true? Is it better if they are thin/close together or thicker/spaced apart?

They're only unflattering on some body shapes, I think.

I always get compliments in horizontal stripes because they give me some shape.

Unless I am very slim (and down to a E cup) they make me look huge as I have rather largish boobs.

Now, I remember reading some research on this a few years ago. It was confirmed that making you look fat was a myth. They actually make you look slimmer apparently.

I'm well covered Blush and I always thought they made me look slimmer, but could never understand why

I read that too and had a similar epiphany orange. I'm very curvy and one of the most flattering dresses I own has thin horizontal stripes. I steer clear of bigger stripes, but that might just be because I don't suit lots of contrast in my colours.

I figured this must be myth as pretty much every shop had horizontal stripes in the windows at the mo! Am considering making my first Boden purchase & didn't want to make a mistake ordering stripes in the wrong direction!

Think it is more down to colourscheme used, how much, where you wear them and the width, I suppose if you follow the usual rules about emphasising your good points and disguising the less than perfect, you cant go far wrong. Balance of overall outfit is key to it all I suspect, so checking outfit in a full length mirror is probably a wise move!

I think this is a myth. Here's something from The Guardian - yes, I know, not a scientific journal but not The Sun either.

Quite partial to the odd bit of horizontal stripes myself.
