Wedge trainers - over?? Yay or nay?

I have liked the look of wedge trainers for ages and the comfort with style factor really appeals. Most of my time I am a SAHM so try to dress down. (My natural state is overdressed! I love dressing to go out, always have full make-up on and try to keep my hair nice - I'm not great at casual)

So the question I have for you S&B ladies is this; have wedge trainers had their day or have they become a modern classic/staple? I really can't justify Marant prices for something I am so unsure about but am considering these - are they the sort of item that would make you look and think 'oh, SO last year'??

Note: I do realise some people will detest them and lots of people will tell me not to worry what is in fashion and to wear what I like but I do mind about fashion without being slavish to it IYSWIM.

Good news - wear with pride this weekend grin

oh burnished, I love your Tom Ford bag….

I have (since the impulse purchase) looked around and really can't beat that price. Also, I would have naturally chosen black but really like the colour I have chosen.

Round of applause for MsWinnieBaygo

If I was buying any it'd be those taupe/prune ones (if they were in my size and you hadn't snapped them up OP!) I love the colour and that's a good price for genuine Ash.

burnishedsilver Wed 22-Jan-14 21:31:15

This is me in my wedge desert boots :-)

PrimalLass Wed 22-Jan-14 21:30:31

They are reduced everywhere. Do not pay full price. Try the Ash website.

MsWinnieBaygo Wed 22-Jan-14 21:30:10

Don't worry OP, this is my version of a flat shoe - I normally live in heels. The ones you've ordered look good with both black and blue skinny jeans and are like walking on air whilst still making my legs look thinner grin

Blimey! I have a fetching silvery grey pair ........ From George at Asda!

Good on you, they are defo cool.

petitdonkey Wed 22-Jan-14 21:25:48

Bear in mind that my favourite shoe type in the world is Jimmy Choo's Abel, this is somewhat of a departure for me!

petitdonkey Wed 22-Jan-14 21:24:57

tethers grin - I've made a terrible mistake haven't I??

petitdonkey Wed 22-Jan-14 21:24:08

God, you lot are terrible… I only came on to ask for advice!!! Duly purchased, will post as soon as they arrive (and wait now for swarms of people to tell me it was a terrible idea to buy them!!)

tethersend Wed 22-Jan-14 21:22:11

The sartorial elegance of a trainer with all the comfort of a high heel.

Wait. What?

IT'S BACKWARDS.

burnishedsilver Wed 22-Jan-14 21:21:41

Oooh, that's me in the picture.

Just kidding. Unfortunately.

I really like them but they are bloody expensive!!!!

I would buy some from a cheaper shop!
You are not too old either.

And, you will definitely look as cool as the lady in the pics. grin

Whitecat Wed 22-Jan-14 21:18:19

Stop dithering and buy them.

PoshPaula Wed 22-Jan-14 21:15:09

They are GREAT. I'd wear them. I'm really old.

petitdonkey Wed 22-Jan-14 21:13:41

OMG - I really like those, they are bargainous and the only ones they have left are my size…. Do I go for it????

MsWinnieBaygo Wed 22-Jan-14 21:13:35

No, no, we are that girl grin

Have a look at the does my bum look 40 in this style blog - she's 41 and wears them often

petitdonkey Wed 22-Jan-14 21:12:41

racmum - I was thinking about the navy as a softer alternative… do you just wear them with jeans? I really can't do jogging pants! (again, not because I don't like the look but I am very curvy and it would look all wrong)

burnished - off to google wedge desert boots...

MsWinnieBaygo Wed 22-Jan-14 21:12:32

OP - these are mine Ash Bowie Multi Wedge Prune

P.s I'm nearly 36

petitdonkey Wed 22-Jan-14 21:10:46

In my head, I will be this girl…

I'm SO not this girl <<<weeps>>>

burnishedsilver Wed 22-Jan-14 21:09:07

I have wedge desert boots. They have the shape and the comfort of a wedge trainer without being a trainer. I could walk all day in them.

racmun Wed 22-Jan-14 20:59:39

I've got those in Navy and I love them.
I think they're a bit like marmite.
Really comfy and as a pp so much more flattering than flat trainers.

I reckon they'll be a fashion staple or at least I hope so! Everyone I know who has some says there is no going back.....

petitdonkey Wed 22-Jan-14 20:59:28

burnished - That's what I thought, I should have bought them four years ago when I first liked them… I'm slightly loathe to buy them now only to have Grazia scream at me in November that I must not wear them.

Maybe I should order them and try on at home…. I have a sneaking suspicion that they are no me but I so want them to be...
