If I post some pics and tell you my measurements can you tell me what body shape I am?

I am finding it hard to dress for my shape at the moment but I look at all those quizzes and I just can't see what I'm supposed to be.

My vitals are:
38 inch shoulders
33 inch bust
26 inch waist
35 inch hips

Can anyone help, and also give me some pointers as to good shapes and styles to help me figure? I just feel like I look boyish and not very feminine...

According to this you're a banana

Banana? Never heard that before! Guess it's like column or rectangle. Yes I thought I might be but my widest part is my shoulders, which seems at odds with the whole straight up and down malarkey. Hmm...

Neither had I! You're a similar shape to me. I prefer thinking of myself as athletic rather than a banana

Haha yes I prefer athletic too!!

I thought your shape (not looking at the measurements) is more like an inverted triangle. But also very athletic, you look very fit!

I think you are a ...........Column and you have a lovely figure.

I would have said I'm reasonably similar to you OP but it's just come up with 'Sorry you are not in the four shapes we calculate' Hmm Bit rude!

Any way, I find having details on my bottom half to widen it slightly and balance out my hips and shoulders help. So tulip shaped or skater type skirts, and ruching or horizonal stripes are good. And I never wear thick or fluffy tops (so no angora or cables on top) as it makes me feel very top heavy. Floaty, fine and fitted tops are good.

I don't think you quite look like a Cornet....do you?

It says for a column that generally you don't have broad shoulders.

I think I mean drapey tops, not floaty. I think athletic or inverted triangle are the best terms - you do not look like a banana!

Lol at you are not in the four shapes we calculate! Therein lies the problem I think. I will have to take column/athletic with big shoulders as my diagnosis! Boobs and hips are too big for an inverted triangle I suspect...

Thank you for nice comments (and I know I shouldn't moan!) but I do wish I could look a bit more girly/curvy. I like the idea of ruched skirts, don't wear skirts at all really so might be a good place to start...

I've worked out it doesn't let you have a 25 inch waist, only 26 and above. So yes, I am a v similar shape to you but shorter :)

I have a ruched skirt from Hush and it makes my hips look quite curvy.

You also might be a mesomorph - we tend to have narrow torsos but relatively big, muscular-ish limbs, and are able to both lose and gain weight fast.

So you need to wear things that give you more waist definition and more curves. Tops and dresses that are cut to emphasis the waist and a line skirts might be good for you. Belts could help define your waist too. With colours maybe wear brighter colours on your bottom half and darker on top.

Great thank you that's really helpful. Don't wear belts, always wear black or indigo jeans (no colour) and rarely skirts or dresses. Am beginning to see where I'm going wrong!!

Also make sure that you are in the right bra size for definition.

If you don't like skirts or dresses then I don't see why you should wear them tbh

MillyRules · 22/01/2014 13:05

You don't have hips from what I can see so you need to create hips. By adding a belt you will create the waist affect and the going in and out will add some hips but A line skirts definitely will help with that.
Peplum tops also help to create waist and hips.

Purple is wanting to look more curvy so that is why the suggestions of skirts and dresses to balance out her shape and give her the curves she craves.

Sounds right-just checking you weren't in a 34aa or something! Try brastop, mycurvesandme and amazon for good deals. And bravissimo for choice

Haha we have the same bra size too :) Definitely agree with Milly's advice of dark colours on top - light colours make your top half look so much bigger. Not that that matters, as you are very slim, but if you're wanting to achieve the balanced look darker tops are better. And I always find jeans make my hips look much smaller, so if I'm wanting curves I wear skirts and dresses. I've just bought a skirt very like this, but a bit longer, and it's great for widening.
