Seasalt coats. Is it just me?

I bought a seasalt coat the other week and have been looking at it sideways ever since, and trying to decide whether to send it back or not.

Basically it makes me look like an old lady.

Well I think it does. I'm not sure.

It's lovely inside (all sort of fleecy) and apparently is very waterproof (not tested as yet) but the shape is - well what do you think?

Is it Ok? Or should I return it? (it was in the sale btw, everything I buy is!)

That is a Hayley Cropper coat.

Not remotely stylish.

I think you are right.

I'd say it's a no. It does look shapeless in the picture.

If you think it would keep you warm and dry then keep it.

I would wearing but then I'm 50, and tend to want to look good in the summer but when it it comes to winter, I'd go for warmth over stylish anytime.

Oh dear.

I hate sending stuff back to Inis. They always send an email to say they received it back with a hard stare a bit like Celia Imrie, and I feel like the world hates me for about 24 hours.

Sorry but it looks like a dog walking coat to me. Something warm and comfortable. Not a going in to town coat.

I have a SeaSalt coat and I love it - it is not remotely Haley Cropper as they have all sorts of stylish details!

I also love it because it is proppa waterproof and windproof. V hardwearing.

However, mine is a bluey grey - I think red macs that are not bright red are a bit cheap-ads-in-the-colour-supplements 'leisure wear' and the sea salt stuff looks better in her trad nautical colours. Also I am tall and I quite like the slight waist in the coat, and the shape is actually flattering on me.

Bugger the hard stares. I'm afraid I think it's frumpy.

Have you tried surfer-type places like Quiksilver? May sound odd, but they often have good sales and their stuff is very practical if you want fleece linings and all, but a bit less... frumpy (sorry).

Heard about the wonderousness of Seasalt coats, while shopping for a new coat took a look. I found them to be very frumpy and 'Maureen goes to the bingo'.
Not for me!

Fwiw - I think you could find a far more flattering and fashionable coat elsewhere.

No idea why they are so popular. Probably because they're pricey.

I hate the limited choices in waterproof coats in a country that is sodden to the gills!

I have a Craghopper coat for wet and cold weather and a Seasalt waterproof for wet, milder weather.
I love them both and am often asked where I bought them.
I am older than you, I am sure and suffer with arthritis, so being warm and dry takes priority.

Back in the day, when I lived a more urban life I am sure I would have been tearing my hair out.
Any designer who produced a range of waterproofs in a variety of styles to suit our different shapes and ways of dressing should make a fortune.

There are excellent threads in Style and Beauty on this very subject.

I fear that all of us over 21, are sentenced to be made to look like elderly Guide leaders or members of the rambling club by practical coats.

I'm short with big hips and arse, I tend to look like a mumsy cube in coats like that. (And a badly wrapped parcel in coats with a belt.) So I can't win.

Do you keep it? Will you wear it? It's a nice colour, good length and a nice price. But if you're going to leave it on a hook in your hall there's no point.

Erk. I was really hoping someone would say No it's gorgeous! So I didn't have to bother returning it.

Blu, I am slightly heartened by your reply. I tried to buy the bluey grey tincloth one but it was sold out even though the order went through.

sob

Never mind. Inis, it's coming back to you. Watch Out.

Starball...I WANT to wear it because it feels so nice. That's me turning middle aged isn't it. A slippery slope to slippers.

Darn it.

I know I'd wear it. It's the first thing I grabbed this morning as it looked like rain. I know it looks terrible on me, but I LIKE the fleecy sheepy lining.

CONFLICTED

I have a sea salt Mac that is really nice and very waterproof. However there is a whiff of the croppers about that one.

DS has one and it looks cute on him. But it's blue with yellow facing and a stripey lining. That one is ... mumsy, sorry. I wouldn't wear it and I'm pushing 50
