Help, please! What should I do with my hair?

Dear fellow mumsnetter style experts, please give me some ideas, as I'm running out of them!

I'm a SAHM in my early 30s. My hair is slightly greying, sort of ashy brown. I like having my hair short - ideally extremely short (think Sinead O), but as my body is not exactly perfect (5' 7, 11 ish stone, size 14), I might suit a teensy bit more of length. I love wearing tapered "mum jeans", trainers or DMs, t-shirts and cardies. Sort of 90s style.. Very low maintenance. I don't wear make-up, never blow dry or straighten hair. Always wear my glasses, which are greyish green (like my eyes).

The hair's been every (natural) colour on this planet, until last year when I just shaved it off. It's grown now, and I'm getting a bit restless with my own colour, especially since the grey is starting to show a bit. I've toyed the with the idea of mossy green Shock , but would that be too "emo/teenager"? I just don't want to miss my chance to wear shock colours before I have to be a "respectable career woman" again! Or silvery blonde? Or just stay dark brown, but dye the grey?

Any help greatly appreciated! Smile Picture should be showing on profile.

Arse, it's not showing, so will just post here. Have name changed anyway, so no worries if someone recognises me!

I can't even click on your profile - you need to make it public.

Oh ok, I can see you now!

I don't like the green idea - won't it make you look a bit... green around the gills?

Would a selection of colours, rainbow style, be too much? This is rather pretty.

I think you really suit your hair short. It works well with your glasses as well.

You look really pretty, good facial structure, short hair looks good on you. Colour your hair any colour you like, enjoy it! After all, you can always chop it all of again.

I wouldn't care if anyone thought a colour was too "emo" etc., just do what makes you happy, it's your hair :)

emsyj: Shock goodness, that rainbow hair! Nice, but I think I might look like I'm wearing a clown wig Grin But I know what you mean about the green.. Dunno..

Thanks Wips! Smile

Also, thanks Lady! That is exactly the attitude I've had until now. It's just that I have realised that I might look a bit muttony.. like I'm pretending to be a teen.. But, yes, can always chop off! Grin

Oh I think it's really nice! But you'd have to get it done professionally by a good colourist.

How about blue? Don't give up the dream of funky coloured hair! I wouldn't go for silvery blonde, it's just a bit meh. You look nice dark.

You could get away with any colour really. You have a lovely, pretty face, good skin, even features - just pick one that you like.

For clarity, that photo you just posted of the greasiness - good god. Gopping. Dreadful. Don't do anything like that to yourself!

Aww, thanks emsyj!

I have done a blue fringe before, so blue is definitely possible, as well. Maybe a turquoisey colour?

I will be a silvery white in the end anyway Wink My mum carries off the grey really well.

emsyj: I do wonder what product Pixie used on that hair - cooking oil? Grin

The Tinkerbell greens are quite nice actually - nicer than I expected!

I used to want to dye my hair blue when I was a teenager. I even bought the dye. But I never had the guts.

I'm 33 & have had short pink hair for about 6 months now, after contemplating it for a while & its done wonders for my confidence. I wish I'd done it years ago Grin

Yes, they are good! I had strict parents (hair dye, especially non-natural colours were a no-no), so no chance of doing any of this as a teen.. Wanted piercings as well. Still hankering after a nose (septum) one like this:

www.google.co.uk/search?q=septum+piercing&safe=off&rlz=1C1CHFX_en-GBGB532GB532&espv=210&es_sm=93&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=Mp7dUo_dJ8jD7AbIqoCQAw&ved=0CAkQ_AUoAQ&biw=1920&bih=971#facrc=&imgdii=&imgrc=sCteEWnSwKxGRM%253A%3B4QIgsPzr6QrVUM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fupload.wikimedia.org%252Fwikipedia%252Fcommons%252F9%252F91%252FSeptum_piercing_and_microdermal.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fcommons.wikimedia.org%252Fwiki%252FFile%253ASeptum_piercing_and_microdermal.jpg%3B952%3B1024

What do you lot think? Still scared about parent's reaction Grin , but could always flip the ring up me nose when visiting them..

Have now got the bleach going.. this is going to be a DIY job. Unless something goes very badly wrong. haven't got much to lose.. that's the great thing about short hair! Grin I think I am going to go for the shade in the middle pic.. so, ordering dark green and turguoisey blue to use once my bleach job is complete.

Keep changing your colour! You would suit pretty much any colour. Scarlet, lavender, blue, copper, green... go for it! And pls post pics.

ExtraCruchyArseBiscuits · 20/01/2014 22:39

Thanks, Lula! Will do the greeny blue first, I think. But I know I am going to get bored quite soon, again. I love lavender, but that's Kelly O's colour, and I'm not sure if I want to copy. I know I am being silly about it, though! Grin

Cor, you look great! I absolutely love short sticky-up hair and you suit it perfectly. I'm thinking some kind of red would look good... But you should definitely try out ALL available colours and a few at once in different combinations :)

Thanks, Splodges! You are all very, very kind. Smile

Ok, right. Have now bleached and ended up with a fetching yellowy, peachy uneven blonde (but I knew that was going to happen, so that's ok - am only bleaching so the greys don't jump at you when I colour). Now toying with the idea of a light peach colour. But I think that I might actually suit cool colours better..?

Here goes (excuse the style and pyjamas..):

Help, please! What should I do with my hair?
