Fat transfer for undereye hollows/tear troughs?

pandarific · 11/01/2014 13:27

Hi all, just wondering if anyone here has had fat transfer rather than fillers to the tear trough area? I've got genetic hollowness under there that's only become a problem from my late 20s, but it's getting worse and worse as time goes on. :(

I'm attracted by fat transfer rather than fillers as fat transfer is permanent while fillers need to be repeated, and I'd much rather have the hollowness sorted once and for all, rather than forever have to go back to get the filler, which would work out much more expensive in the end.

I've seen it recommended to use an oculoplastic surgeon for anything to do with fat transfer around the eyes, and Dr Jesper Sorensen (sorensenclinic.com/aesthetic-surgery/face/fat-transfer/) seems to tick all the boxes - anyone have any experience with him, or just with fat transfer in general?

Not seen anyone about this yet, just gathering info!

No experience but you need to be really careful of anything permanent because even though it's your own fat, the skill needed to use it properly will vary between drs.

Thanks - yeah, totally agreed, was just why I was wondering if anyone had any experience of Dr. Sorensen as he seems really qualified.

Anyone ever had any fat transfer done to the face?

There's a website called look your best which might be able to help.

hi OP. My sister had fat transfer done by jasper (to the face - her cheekbones and to even out imperfections etc). I've asked her about this - she said he was kind and extremely competent, and she did get a lovely result...

Don't know about under eye area though and sis didn't have that. Ask lots of questions at your consultation!

Jesper Sorenson performed a blepharoplasty for me in January this year. I cannot recommend him highly enough. I was out with makeup on in ten days. No one could tell and I got several compliments even that soon about how well I looked. Three weeks on no one would guess id had plastic surgery even without makeup. I have no scarring unless you are really searching for it. Really close you can see a faint line at the sides- nothing on the lids. The lines are so faint only three months on that I am sure they will be gone soon. They look more like a very tiny facial line than a scar- don't imagine red lumpy ridges. You won't get them with this surgeon. Dr Sorenson is a charming gentle man who can work miracles. He deserves to be recommended but I have been able to keep my op a secret from everyone. So here is my anonymous recommendation.

I'm considering getting this done, too. I have zero wrinkles or even fine lines at 37, but the hollowness under my eyes is terrible. It's a solid genetic imprint and doesn't vary when I lose or gain weight. Please post results about how you get on. I'm in the US, and there are several facial surgeons close to me who are renowned for fat grafts.

Interesting subject, it does sounds as if fat transfer has advantages over fillers.

I am considering a fat transfer with Sorensen. If anyone has had a procedure with him I would be very grateful for some information.

I'd like to revive this thread, like the OP am considering this procedure for hollowing. I'd be grateful to hear about any experiences, and for any recommendations. Sorensen sounds wonderful, but probably beyond my budget, Brian Leatherbarrow seems eminently qualified... Please help, shit a bit scared, but tired of looking tired / ill!

Hi, I had juvederm tear trough fillers last summer, had researched fat transfer as well. Unfortunately my research pointed to a couple of documented cases of blindness following fat transfer, it's because there is a chance fat droplets can migrate into the capillaries around the eyes and cause blockages in the blood vessels in the retina which is very bad news. (I work in ophthalmology by the way)

I can't recommend juvederm enough, I had to have two doses to get a good result but it seems to be lasting well.

Thanks for the links and info. Sometimes it seems insane to care enough about dark hollows to think of doing something about it... But equally it is miserable looking miserable if something could be done with 'negligible' risk! I swither endlessly.

I hoped in the hands of an oculoplastic specialist using a cannula it would be relatively safe, but hadn't come across this particular issue in my research. Did I understand right, the droplets migrated across the capillary membrane, rather than entering a blood vessel through direct accidental injection?

Unfortunately HA not an option, and the surgeons who are really phenomenally qualified to inject anything near eyes say they don't do this. Sigh.

Hi I know this thread was some time ago but I am interested in facial fat transfer by Dr Sorensen, I have emailed for information several times but have yet to get a reply. Is anyone able to tell me how much fat transfer to the face costs with this doctor? I don't even have an idea of cost. Thanks for any information

Jesper Sorensen performed a fat transfer procedure to my lower eye (tear trough), forehead, temple and upper lip area in December 2014. The results are fabulous and very natural looking. The £250 consultancy fee is a one off charge and all further appointments are free. I made 2 appointments before the operation and had several follow up appointments thereafter - which were included in the initial consultation fee.

I would recommend him without hesitation.

Hi Karryn. I have a consult with Dr Sorensen next Friday regarding fat transfer under my eyes which are a big hollow. Do you mind me asking roughly what the cost was and what your recovery was like ? Thanks so much. Chris

Hi Chris

Below is an extract from the quote I received in June 2014.

'The initial consultation fee is £250 and the fee for periorbital fat transfer is £3,400 as a day case procedure.'

I was also quoted £2,600 for any additional fat transfer.

I ended up having blepharoplasty, fat transfer and a brow lift and that cost £11,780. It is expensive but worth every penny.

I was very bruised and swollen for 2 weeks post op. By week 3 most of the bruising was obscured by my glasses. There was never any pain and I was back at work 10 days after the operation.

Happy to answers any other questions.

Thank you so much that's really useful. I presume hospital fees need to be added to that also. :)

I just hope I'll have enough fat for fat transfer as a make. I'm hoping they don't need as much.

It's hard to find much information on Dr Sorensen given there's no before and afters of his work etc. With that said he seems very skilled at what he does. It would be great to share more about your experience.

My email is [email protected]

I'm glad you are happy and had a great result. Hoping for similar. :)

Chris

who did you get them done by?

Hi All,

I went to see Jesper Sorensen and was really impressed with his consultation last week. I had bad surgery about 8 years ago in the states and have been trawling the earth seeking a competent surgeon to fix the mess the last surgeon did. I have probably had 20 consultations from London, NY to LA, only one other surgeon that impressed me was in LA , Dr Haworth, but after seeing Jesper Sorensen I am convinced he is my revision surgeon going forward.

My problem now is that I am so anxious in trusting any surgeon ever, after what I went through.

Is there any one out there that can talk me through their past experiences with Sorensen or about to have surgery with Sorensen and would like some support them, Id be happy to support some one via email who is going to have surgery with him shortly.

Please contact me asap, as I am looking forward to going ahead with this
if I get enough replies from here.

Really looking forward to chatting to anyone over Sorensen..

Sad Scared Charlie x
