Oooh thanks for the tips. I just had a look at today's sale and all the bags were long gone sad I saw a Moschino jacket though, one left in my size, plus a couple of Philosophy dresses. Daren't spend any more money this month though.

propertyNIGHTmareBEFOREXMAS Mon 09-Dec-13 18:47:13

Today's flash was as good as I have ever seen it. Crazy prices. I have also banned myself from spending now.

HalfSpamHalfBrisket Mon 09-Dec-13 18:56:26

I'm still v happy after my trip last week - I was just about to leave empty handed when I saw some 'final reduction' dresses - I got a Nicole Fahri for work for £9 and beautiful little black dress by Alberta Feretti down from £390 to £25. So cheaper than the high street for much better quality.

thenightsky Mon 09-Dec-13 20:09:24

Excellent outcome brisket!

Can I ask, those of you finding these mega-bargains - are you in major cities or just small towns? I remember once visiting a Birmingham branch and it was a million times better than my local one.

thecatfromjapan Mon 09-Dec-13 20:11:52

No revelations yet.

But, goodness, anyone else think the presenter's house/flat looks rather lovely?

propertyNIGHTmareBEFOREXMAS Mon 09-Dec-13 20:19:04

So far, so good, no major shocks.

WillPenn Mon 09-Dec-13 20:19:55

He he - I think mumsnetters must have bought up the entire TK Maxx flash sale stock from today! I was hovering at the start and got a Moschino coat.

Revelations on the programme are entirely predicatable.

mummiebummie Mon 09-Dec-13 20:22:08

Not bothered by the current season thing but a bit miffed about the random fake-foreign 'brands' that are actually own brand. And their rrp thingy. I was obviously naive sad

poorbuthappy Mon 09-Dec-13 20:22:39

Oooooo so how did brisket get a Nicole Fahri dress then??

thecatfromjapan Mon 09-Dec-13 20:24:00

That's quite interesting - in so much as TK Maxx is in effect subsidising the luxury market. I am genuinely interested that they have diffusion lines that aren't announced as such.

But not necessarily that interesting for the shopping I do there, which is mainly based on materials (ie cotton etc.) rather than label. And their leather bags, which are (relatively) well-priced for leather.

propertyNIGHTmareBEFOREXMAS Mon 09-Dec-13 20:24:36

Which coat did you get, Will? I loved several. The prices were fab.

thecatfromjapan Mon 09-Dec-13 20:29:27

RE. TK Maxx, I knew about the own-brand things. And I've always been a bit suspicious of the "RRP". They're not the only sellers to do that.

Those "revelations" weren't all that, to be honest. TK Maxx does quite well on price comparison with other high street outlets, "labels" aside. Their sweaters and bags are a lot cheaper than most places, and are often natural materials (unlike the majority of stuff in Primark).

I think a revelation about a. mis-labelling what materials things are made of, and b. putting people out of business would have been shocking. But none of that so far.

southeastastra Mon 09-Dec-13 20:42:00

thought it was really interesting and i have often wondered where some of the 'brands' come from, not surprised they are all made together!

i visit outlet stores quite alot and you can tell the stuff made especially for the outlet as the quality is usually rubbish (Gap outlet stuff reminds me of this).

WillPenn Mon 09-Dec-13 20:43:56

I got the grey Moschino Cheap and Chic one with bow at the neck (It was £150), Property. I also bought the Moschino dark grey parka. One will be going back for sure. Am hoping the smart wool one fits but realistically it might be too small as I am a 14/16 in "normal" clothes and it is a designer 14.

I had pretty much twigged that TKMaxx sells a lot of own brand stuff. I also never believe the "current season" labels. I buy it if it is good quality, what I want, and a price I can (just about!) afford. I mean, if you wanted "current season" designer wear, you wouldn't be in TKMaxx, would you?!

Also, it is obvious that many American stores like Ralph Lauren, Gap etc make stuff especially for their outlet stores. How else would they have so much stock in all sizes?

merryxmasyafilthyanimal Mon 09-Dec-13 20:47:26

I think you'd be safe assuming your Moschino 'bargains' were worth £229 not £1600! Why would they make such a loss?!

TK Maxx is full of shit.

WillPenn Mon 09-Dec-13 20:54:06

Well, actually, have just looked at the Moschino website and the Cheap and Chic coats are listed at £600-£1000. The ones I bought had RRPs of £850 and £650 on TKMaxx and I paid £150 and £130 for them.

Of course, the coats I bought are not current season, but I was under no illusions there. With TKMaxx you do have to know what labels actually retail for - as long as you know this, you won't get ripped off that badly. Plus, £150 for a really great quality winter coat is a good price whatever - 50% wool/50% acrylic ones in Monsoon sell for £120 and I'll bet my Moschino one will be better made than that.

Justonemorecardi Mon 09-Dec-13 20:57:20

Does anyone know which brands are TK Maxx's own ones?

propertyNIGHTmareBEFOREXMAS Mon 09-Dec-13 21:02:11

Agree, Will. I've googled around and the stuff I bought was a fair price. If you are familiar with the brand you know whether the RRP is less than generally charged. Plus with things like the Chloe boots, I've found them on google previously available from many retailers for the RRP tk maxx cited. I like both the coats you've tried. I went for the fur one (£149) in an 8 so a strong chance it will be too small (I'm an 8 top but a 10 lower half).

merryxmasyafilthyanimal Mon 09-Dec-13 21:02:29

Did you watch the programme?

They might not be from any season. They might have been specifically for TK Maxx.

southeastastra Mon 09-Dec-13 21:02:30

loads i froze the tv at that point so i could look out for them

saying that I got a nice dkny top for bed that is on sale at john lewis now for triple the price

WillPenn Mon 09-Dec-13 21:11:48

Yes - merry - I did see the bit about how Nicole Fahri used to make stuff specifically for TKMaxx. That did shock me a bit. But you have to evaluate items on cost and quality. If I saw a Fahri dress that cost £60 in TKMaxx and I felt it was poor quality I would not buy it unless it became so cheap that the cost was no longer an issue, e.g. if reduced to £15.

Hope your fur coat fits, Property! Those were lovely, but I was only in the market for a grey/black number - this is the "gap" i need to fill in my wardrobe.

Some of the own brands are Jobis, Arabella & ?, Deane & White.

propertyNIGHTmareBEFOREXMAS Mon 09-Dec-13 21:14:24

I'm not too bothered if they were made for tk maxx. £150 for a winter coat is fine by me. I'll obviously check the quality when it arrives. I definitely recognise some of the flash sale as Moschino past season previously available.

propertyNIGHTmareBEFOREXMAS Mon 09-Dec-13 21:16:19

Thanks, Will. It is a 50/50 chance of it fitting. I'll ease off on the biscuits till it arrives grin.

Allthingsprettyreturns Mon 09-Dec-13 21:34:16

Its not on catch up as yet but the comnents so far have intrigued me.can someone explain the own brand thing to me

propertyNIGHTmareBEFOREXMAS Mon 09-Dec-13 21:37:27

Tk maxx have some 'brands' available in store which actually aren't independent or sourced from designers rather they make brand themselves. I can't remember the names though, sorry.
