Calling all curly girls, I've just had my hair done at a curly girl and organic salon and my hair looks amazing..!

I just had to share this. I've just had my hair ( blonde, dyed, dry and frizzy ) done at a salon in Birmingham where the stylist was trained in New York by the woman who wrote the Curly Hair handbook!

My hair looks amazing,he cut my hair dry and the method he used to dry it was so different to how I normally do it. I was so impressed with both the stylist and the colourist, they both spent about ten mins talking to me about my hair, examining it and have both done a brilliant job! Ok it wasn't cheap but it was so worth it!

When I was leaving, another client said to me, your hair looks amazing, I saw you when you came in ( when it was a dry, frizzy mess..)

He talked to me about why silicone is so bad for curly hair ( basically cos its like coating your hair in plastic and then doesn't allow your hair to absorb moisture so over time your hair gets more dry), advised me on what products to use in the future and how to dry and style it. Am so impressed and am a total convert!

Very happy to share details with anyone who is interested... (Don't want to be seen to be advertising anything here but have learnt so much already about care of curly hair, I just wanted to pass it on!) :)

I've had a cut at the curly girl salon (Devachan) in NYC and saw the author there. It was an awesome cut. Unfortunately, nobody has been able to cut my hair the same since, and all the curl that was in my hair has dropped out postpartum.

Oh I'm so jealous! I follow the curly girl method but have drawn a blank finding a hairdresser who gets curly hair . Maybe I'll have to take a trip to Birmingham...

Re products, he used Deva curl but you can only get them on Amazon so he couldn't sell any to me but he advised the Bodyshop shampoo and conditioner and the Umberto Giovani ( Gianni?) gel.

Also whilst I was there he gave me the Curly Girl handbook to read. It gives lots of suggestions for home made recipes to use on curly hair such as a lavender spray, conditioners etc.

so how did he dry your hair?

Well firstly he dried it a little with paper towels, put some gel on it and then put a few clips along the parting. He then used a diffuser on a hot setting for about 30 seconds, followed by a minute of diffusing on a lower setting but close to my head ( hope that makes sense!)

Then left it under a dryer for about 20 mins. It looked very ' crispy' until.... I had to put my head down and shake my head a few times and then he used his fingers to ruffle my hair, mainly on the scalp. I then threw back my head and voila! Drop dead gorgeous curls!

I'm not a hairdresser, but I have curly hair and get my hair looking like the women on that website daily [well each time I was it-not daily]...maybe I should set up a curly advisory service

I drive nearly 150 miles to my hairdresser cos he gets curly hair and I just cant go through the trauma of finding another hair dresser!

Been promising myself to try the curly girl routine when my current stock of silicone based products has run out so thank you for the heads up on those products

I'm getting better at sorting my curls out. Will defo try the body shop shampoo/conditioner. I take it doesn't have any silicones in it?
