I do a pre-school run. But usually;
Jeans, converse, flowy vest & cardi.
Leggings, long (bum covering top), ballet pumps and big cardi.
Jeans, jumper, boots.
Skater dress, flats (boots/uggs/ballet) leather jacket

Repeat with various mixing and matching

I never understand this question. Why would you wear something specifically for the school run? Surely you wear what you wear for the day.

Whatever was nearest when I got out of bed, doing school run for me involves making sure two young dc are ready for school and feeding getting ready a 6 month old. What I wear doesn't matter!

I agree with holmes. At DS's school there's some mums obv heading on to work, some to the gym and some back home. I do not notice in a big way what people are wearing. Although yesterday it was mostly raincoats.

You do wear what you wear for the day.I'm just feeling self conscious as don't don hoodies and trainers like the other mums and,along with that,am not sure I can get away with wearing my wool coats on school run being a sahm/carer now

Strange. I wear smartish clothes because I am on my way to work. I'm part time and sometimes go for a run before picking dc up, in which case I am red-faced and in sweaty lycra. I wear whatI wear and I don't give a monkey's what everyone else is wearing! Why would you not be able to wear a wool coat because you're a SAHM?

I'm the one in heels and office skirt because I'm en route to work. I'm definitely in the minority amongst the casual clobber, gym clothes and jodphurs.

I work from home mostly or sahm and wear skinnies, ankle or knee high flat-ish boots, cashmere jumper and maybe a big wool / cashmere scarf.

You are being a bit silly I think OP. Wear whatever you like/feel comfortable in. I highly doubt anyone else has the slightest concern with how you choose to dress. If you want to wear your naice coat then do.

I'm a SAHM at the mo so I usually wear leggings and a dress. When I go back to work, I imagine it will be more formal.

I can't say it's ever occured to me to wonder what others might think!

Why would you dress especially for the school run. Everyone else in the playground is just wearing what they're going to wear for the rest of the day. There's quite a bit of variety in our playground, depending on what people do/what they like to wear.

Honestly, people won't be assessing your choice of clothing for its school run suitability.

I think it's the whole getting soaked thing.I walk and I am as far from a practical dresser as you could possibly imagine.I desperately want to find something more waterproof for school runs and being out and about but my tastes are making it impossible to find anything I consider 'nice' iyswim.

I just want to feel and be a little more practical and relaxed atm.

Re; coats. "Leather" zip up jacket with fur collar, if it's nippy but bearable. Big quilted, belted coat from next if it's arctic and usually a non matching pair of gloves.

I'm now on secondary school run (youngest is yr7, rest are college/Uni), I've always just worn whatever I'm wearing for the day, never had a special outfit for school run chic.

If I'm straight off to work - work gear.

If I'm straight off to the gym - gym gear

If I'm straight off to do the horses - horsey gear

If I'm straight off to the shops/bank - casual gear

If I'm straight off back to bed - PJs and UGGs. I do the slow the car down and open door for DC without getting out thing

Hmm,I've actually found a just about passable waterproof coat...passable because you can bring in the waist and it's bright red which prevents a frumpy look imo.

BUT I have titian hair...do I dare try and pull off a bright red coat when it's chucking it down and my hair isn't so bright due to lack of sunlight?hmmm

I have to wear easy clean & non slip shoes for the mud track to the school. I have some shoes I wear for driving so I wear these

Give the op a break, I think she's just thinking maybe her previous wardrobe isn't compatible for her current lifestyle.
I have also just had dc1 start in reception and find I am feeling a bit self conscious about what I am wearing.
I have definately decided to casual down a bit and now most days ( when I'm not working) it's jeans and converse with a 'sensible' coat, however it like my sensible coat and feel its was a happy medium, I didn't give in completely to practicality.
However I also like wearing boots and skinnies or dresses so wear them if I feel like it and sod em!

Thinking of more relaxed coats and ones that will stand the rain (sighs),this is the only practical coat/jacket I can find that I actually like..would need the top slightly open for my boobage though!

What do you think? Found some less than half the price (last year's version which looks identical!) on the brands outlet,so maybe,just maybe..
