Could someone with their finger on the pulse please tell me, is this still a look for a/w13 or will I just look like I haven't updated my wardrobe since last year?

Thanks very much!

Do you like the look? Does it suit you? Think style over trends and wear it if you love it.

I shall certainly be wearing this look again this A/W.

Hi Ujjayi, yes, I like the look, I found a couple of lovely pairs of shorts last winter (one twill, one black, quilted pair) that I got a lot of wear out of.

I guess I felt a bit more 'on show' than usual and drew confidence from the fact that I knew I was 'on trend'. I suppose I'm just looking for someone to reassure me of the same for this season!

Ah no - I've just re-read my comment and am fearful that it has come across as dismissive which it certainly wasn't meant to be - sincere apologies. It was actually written in a "go for it" kinda way :)

I completely understand the confidence that comes with wearing something that is on trend. For me though there is almost certainly one key trend per season that I will purposely avoid because you inevitably find the high street is swamped with that look and often not great quality (the seasons' must-have pale pink coat being a case in point). Also I like to express who I am with my clothes and if I find a look that works for me I don't give a fig if it's in fashion or not.

I agree with Ujjayi, if if works for you, wear it. I will do it again this autumn winter, either shorts or very short skirts, I like it and it creates less washing than endless pairs of trousers, always a plus Grin

At the moment I am mostly wearing these (in their trouser form), because I love them, they are comfy and they suit me, best reasons to wear anything imo.

I think it is still "in": still lots of shorts in the shops. Whatever, I intend to be wearing this look a lot this A/W. Just like last.

where did you get the shorts from? I am looking for some in grey wool tweed, NOT high waisted, and can't find any.

I love the look and if I find the right shorts will be doing it this AW

Yes I will. My legs are my best bit so I get them out at every opportunity

Where are you getting your shorts from? I want some to wear on nights out with opaques and can't find anything like what I've got in my head.

Last year I got a great wool tweedy type pair from H and M, also have some black lace ones (don't look like pants honest) from marks.

On the look out for some sparkly/sequin ones this year, obviously can't wear them until The Sequin Klaxon on dec 1st

Black lace would be perfect, but I can't find any.

fine if you are a) slim and b) a teenager.

fine anyway, wear what you like because this is a country where you can but always looks SO impractical to me! Too cold outside, too sweaty indoors in overheated public buildings.

It must be in trend as there seem to be more shorts in the shops just now than there were in the summer!!

Topshop had some nice burgundy lace ones.

I also bought tweed shorts from H&M last year. Mine are purple/magenta. I also have sequin ones from TopShop - they are a lovely slouchy fit & covered in matte bronze square sequins :). The Sequin Klaxon sounds on 6th November here Wink

I have a sequin cape I can't wait to wear. Maybe that klaxon could be earlier this year Grin

Yay! Looks like I am good to go with the shorts for another year!

Loving the concept of the sequin klaxon, loving it Grin

I've been scouting around and will also be investing in a pair of these for this season.

special you'd be surprised how warm they are actually, my quilted pair worn with really high denier opaques and ankle boots are proper toasty...

Thanks all, I'm feeling a lot less wibbly now. (and I bought a gorgeous boucle jacket yesterday too so feeling much better about the whole A/W malarkey)

I do a variation on this look. At 41 in not sure about the shorts bit for myself

I wear Wolford opaques ( seriously the best ! ) , a little mini skirt in dark cord or denim or whatever , ankle boots ( Ash spirals or Acne pistols ) and whatever top grabs me.

In my head I look stylish. That's all I concentrate on Grin

A sequin cape!!! Wow . For parties or wandering round waitrose? What's it like ?

It's lovely, ebay bargain. Jaegar, black sequin outer with merino wool lining, very soft but warm. About elbow length.

Will wear with all black under - skinnies, top, ankle boots, or opaques and black dress. Bought mainly for going out purposes - I go to a pizza place with friends every so often and it's chilly. But also just in case I get whisked off to the opera or something equally unlikely.

I suddenly have a sequin cape sized hole in my AW wardrobe..........

Cressida I love Wolford opaques too (and their micronets are THE best too). However, last year I bought the Autograph merino tights and I'm afraid Wolford are just for evenings now. The merino tights are toasty warm and not too "knitted".

DuckworthLewis those skorts are gorgeous. Love the Geranium shade. You will hear the MN sequin klaxon go off around 1st December. It usually coincides with the first of the nativity plays. However, my take on it is this: if the fireworks are over it's time to think Festive Season therefore sequins are de rigueur. Plus being married to a Dutchman our Christmas celebrations begin on 30 November with the first of Sinter Klaas' visits. Given that the UK's sequin klaxon goes off 25 days before their major celebration I feel it is only right that I should have 25 days prior to our Dutch/English (aka Dunglish) celebrations.

BillStickers I think you should definitely adhere to my 6th November klaxon. If I had a sequin cape I think it may even start from 30 September.........!
