A happy and safe place to talk fashion (from high end to high street), beauty and the arts. All welcome to bring a positive state of mind, lots of links and an eye for detail.

What is wrong with MN this morning - that took 6 attempts to set up!

Hi all

Needs I'm going to try that risotto you cooked. If you can PM a link to the recipe or give me some pointers as to amounts, that'd be great. If not I'll wing it.

Shop Thanks for setting up. The thread was playing up last night, wouldn't let me post even though it wasn't up to 1000.

Decam That blouse is lovely. I don't mind Boden. They have some beautiful pieces and are a major British success story. I still have a chocolate brown whalebone cord coat by them that is donkeys years old. I love it, worn elbows and all and had some leather patches put onto the worn bits by a tailor. Looks modern still.

Dry I have found these so far. Let me know if they are going in the right direction or whether you'd prefer more evening-y selections;

You might think this is hideous and I definitely think it might be one season only as the print is very trend specific but this Carven T is different;

Lagerfeld luxe racer back which if you don't get, I will;

Multi purpose JCrew shirt. I would style it modern club kids style w/ loads of blingy paste and real jewellery, fierce shoes.

I love this ACNE print T. So elegant in its print and will go high or low.

Might be a bit low necked for you but this Helmut would look good w/ a blingy brooch pinned to the V or a neckline filled in w/ jewellery;

Simple Geometric tank which would suit indigo or black pants and bright shoes;

Sheer modern and multi purpose shirt;

This covers the metallic trend;

And this covers the pink;

A Marant influenced top;

Another modern abstract print

This is from Amber Valetta's new company 'Master and Muse' sold on Yoox and is a simple black top.

needastrongone · 20/09/2013 10:43

Love the Acne T and the Marant influenced top mig, plus the Atterley Road top and the Helmut Lang too. I am finding it difficult to form objective opinions on the rest, as I would look like a zombie in those colours Smile and this is influencing my thought process.

Ristotto link here - be aware I never follow a recipe, I just like the idea then do my own thing, which hugely annoys the family as they don't get the same dish twice. I added more butter and wine than the suggested amounts, a little soy sauce and lots of garlic pepper, plus I didn't measure the rice, just added until I felt the consistency would be right. The DC eat the remaining risotto cold for their lunches the next day!

sort of recipe

Whoever linked the Zara skirt that I subsequently bought, thank you Smile

mignonette · 20/09/2013 11:23

Thank you Needs. Are you on Pinterest and if so am I following you? Gets confusing w/ some of the names being different.

QueenCadbury · 20/09/2013 12:34

Aargh, don't confuse me. I've just posted on vol 21.

QueenCadbury · 20/09/2013 12:35

Copy and paste from vol 21...

Have a fab weekend liberty.

I'm still undecided about the ash boots. This was the reply from my wardrobe

This is the intended look for this pair, they are supposed to have a distressed feel and all of the other pairs will have this.

I love the colour and the shape but just want them to look perfect but they don't. For £100 I should probably return them shouldn't I?

mrscb linked these but I'm just not sure if I like the wooden heel. I really like the ash with the black heel.

Forgot to say that yesterday I bought this top. I rarely go in next anymore except to look at kids stuff but my training afternoon was on a retail park so I nipped in. I'm wearing it today with black jeans and a damson cardi. And it has an exposed zip so get me, I'm finally trendy .

shopafrolic · 20/09/2013 12:37

QueenC please return those boots if you're not 100% happy with how they look
Dry nights out for me tend to be either jeans with silk blouse with a print, or my cream one, or black - I have a draped, sleeveless black top from Kookai, or a silk sleeveless top with a ruffle at the front from Jigsaw which I wear with black coated skinnies.
Hope everyone finds us okay - the old thread went very strange......

Random question but where do you buy your socks? I invested in loads of gap ones as they seemed better than my previous m&s and supermarket offerings but I've noticed they all have holes in. Maybe I shouldn't expect socks to last more that a year...?

QueenCadbury · 20/09/2013 12:43

dry forgot to reply. I tend to wear black cropped trousers or jeans (either straight leg or skinny flare) with some sort of blouse like my hire jaegar one, my navy vero moda or my black lace one from last year. I'd like a grey going out blouse too. On my feet I wear my grey boots or mid heels. My going out footwear isn't very glam as we tend to walk everywhere as our nearest restuarants are 15 mins away and friends are local so they have to be functional. I really need to add in some navy boots.

shop I am going to return them. I just hope I don't regret it. I will try those clarks ones when they finally come in. If anyone sees any navy ankle boots under £100 please let me know!!!

Decameron · 20/09/2013 13:06

Lovely tops, Mig.

Happy anniversary, Liberty!

Socks ... I usually steal DH's!

Decameron · 20/09/2013 13:09

I agree about Boden, Mig but you do see a lot of Boden bashing on Mumsnet!

Needs, I'm going to try that risotto. Dd1 is a fussy eater, it puts me off cooking. She's 5 so hopefully will grow out of it soon.

santamarianovella · 20/09/2013 13:27

whats going on today?thought i lost you all!

hope you enjoyed your evening sleep

novice your meal sounds amazing!

dry i usually wear simple silk tops with skinny black jeans or leather skinnies with simple sweater,but always wear high heels, will link when i reach home.

mig and dec you both are right,boden are good actually ,but the always get very critical comments on here,their prices are on par with the high street but they quality is loads better.

liberty enjoy your weekend and happy anniversary

santamarianovella · 20/09/2013 13:34

dec dss is a fussy eater ,and dd who used to eat anything and everything on her plate is starting to be more picky too, but everything i cook from the rachel allen cookbooks gets devoured instantly,i have no idea why! her risotto recipe is very simple but is a great hit with both of them!

QueenCadbury · 20/09/2013 13:35

I always drool over the Boden catalogue and aside from the Boden-y prints their stuff looks great. In reality I just can't be faffed with orders and returns. A lot of brands get slated on MN such as fat face/white stuff but I find that you can usually find good stuff anywhere just as you can get rubbish stuff anywhere.

BrandyAlexander · 20/09/2013 13:38

Ohhhhh we are on a new one!!! God I am stressed today, doing my conference calls while finishing the last of decluttering that dh didnt do Hmm as estate agent is coming round to do the photos at 3pm. Hope I don't end up on one of those MN threads! Shock

Santa, great meal but I felt so full this morning! I am supposed to be going to the Shard tomorrow night for a meal but I have decided that I don't have time. :(

shopafrolic · 20/09/2013 14:01

Some people still seem to be able to post on the old thread - I can't.
If you can - could you post a link to this thread saying that we've had to move? Thanks everso!

OP posts:
shopafrolic · 20/09/2013 14:13

Thanks QueenC no idea what's going on!

OP posts:
QueenCadbury · 20/09/2013 14:35

I think normally it goes up to 40 pages or 1000 posts. Maybe because it's on p41 it's confused?

mignonette · 20/09/2013 14:52

I don't know what is happening w/ MNV 21. It has gone all wrong Grin.

Liberty Happy Anniversary. Doing anything? Apologies if you've already said but have missed a chunk I think?

Decam I think the Boden bashing might stem from the detractors of MN depicting it as 'Boden Towers' hence the rush to distance themselves! People who love style buy what they like, when they like. I like your shirt very much and I think Boden does sharp pant cutting- they always have several excellent pairs especially the cigarettes and sailors. As for Fat Face, my cosy TV wear is currently a pair of red and white striped PJ bottoms w/ an oversized harcoal grey lambswool FF sweater that I nicked from DH. The Postman told me he liked my look (when he delivered my post, nothing else!) and I don't think he was being sarky....

Novice That isn't the Shard restaurant that AA Gill, Giles Coren and the other critics tore to pieces was it? If so, save your money as its pretty bad apparently.

Santa My DD makes Rachel Allens coconut cake and reckons it is better than the famous K Paul Prudhomme coconut cake.

Queen I would return them unless you can get past the distressed look. Otherwise that is a fair whack of money on an item that may niggle and mither away at you each time you look at them.

RE socks I steal DH's plain black cotton but not sure where he buys them from. I also buy Fair Isle and other 'homespun' type prints from places like Melin Tregwynt here, Toast, M&S and my DH's Paul Smith FairIsle ones. I only wear pure cotton or wool blends so those gorgeous Top Shop patterns are generally out although I did give in and buy some Snoopy, Moomin, Barbapappa and Dastardly and Muttley ones! They don't last well even ones from places like Gap but one piece of advice I was given was to make sure that toenails are kept very short and to never pull socks on by thrusting feet into them and yanking as that makes them give out at the toe.

I want some hand knitted chunky Arran style ones for padding about at home although they are lethal on the stone kitchen floor and I am prone to falling as you all well know!

LinusDKD · 20/09/2013 15:03

Here you all are!

novice beef carpaccio, yum! I usually order this in any Italian restaurant as I love it so much.

mig I love cooking but since the DC I am usually confined to easy meals that are ready in 30 minutes so I compensate by reading one of my many cookbooks. I am going to make a Chilli con Carne tomorrow even though DS will say he doesn't like 'picy' (he can't say 'spicy') food.

He used to be a relatively easy eater until he turned 18 months and then he became superfussy. It is slowly getting better though so I hope it's just a phase.

decam I love that Boden blouse and I agree they do have some nice things. I often wear the crochet jacket I bought this summer as it fits with loads of things in my wardrobe.

I went into town this morning to do some shopping for the DC and to try on the Aigle Cuckmere, but the Aigle shop had moved to a shopping centre out of town. Angry

Maybe this is a sign I need to go for the Moncler coat I tried last week? Wink. DH and I are going to Rome in two weeks time so I will go to the Moncler store there and try it on again and hope it's less £££ there

novice I saw those Valentino ankle boots you pinned a while ago and they are stunning. They are very narrow though, so not for people with wide feet.

santa I saw that Marant tee and you are right, it is super soft.

Oh and I popped into LV and I had a look at that scarf. They didn't have it in the colour you pinned but the navy/beige combination is lovely.

I saw loads of lovely things again but I was a good girl and only bought that Maybelline brow gel someone mentioned on MNV.

And my first two Christmas presents! Grin

LinusDKD · 20/09/2013 15:11

Happy anniversary liberty!

sleep mentioning Tucker reminded me I had seen this blouse and thought of dry but I forgot to link it at the time.

Thanks all for the good wishes - have made it to Bath (weekend away), DD asleep, DH gone to get some food and wine - the flat we booked is lovely so I'm getting nicely relaxed. Some work emails to clear then chill out.

QueenC I echo the others in saying return the boots if you don't love them. It doesn't matter if they cost £10, £100 or £1000 - if they don't get worn or if they always bother you it's a waste.

Any shops I should look out for in Bath????

mignonette · 20/09/2013 15:27

Linus I often wonder if that food fussiness that often accompanies the learning to walk, run and be a little more independent of the parent is natures way of discouraging toddlers from sampling foods 'in the wild'. You know, back in the day when we were living in huts? An evolutionary safeguard we haven't quite shed yet?

That's a pretty mint/Aqua blouse Linus. Very fresh for the coming Spring too as those pastels will be very in for S/S 14.

I have ordered some cookbooks for DD's Christmas. She wants to develop a mega collection like mine Smile....

My Mother has dropped hints about giving me some of her hand bags- I am hoping for the Chanel flap over or the McQueen 'Novac' which is a little ladylike for me but I am sure I'll cope. She has gorgeous bags and rarely uses any of them. I won't get her Kelly though!

mignonette · 20/09/2013 15:29

Liberty Are you going to the Roman Baths? That pool on the roof looks glorious.

I'm not familiar w/ Bath although BIL went to the university years ago. He loves it. Manolo Blahnik lives there doesn't he? Or is it in Cheltenham?
