Wearing makeup every day

Just been looking at a trashy website Blush of pictures of celebs without makeup and there is no denying in my mind that most people, me included, look better with makeup on.

When I have made the effort everyone always says "you look nice" or "you look well" and that is because I don't have naturally smooth skin, or dark eyebrows/lashes, and makeup suits me. I am just lazy.

So, those of you who do it every day, how long do you think it should take to apply bb cream mixed with a bit of foundation, concealer, pencil eye liner, one colour of eyeshadow and mascara? I don't really do blusher and lips will be just a touch of gloss as lipstick doesn't really suit me.

What should I do with my eyebrows? They are quite a nice shape and fairly dark - I can't stand the new HD eyebrows ... I don't want to do the school run looking like Katie Price!

I do:

Serum, Moisturiser, eye cream, primer, foundation/bb mixed, eyeshadow, eyeliner, mazzie always.

Sometimes powder and rarely lippy.

Have never done anything with eyebrows. am a Gallagher but that's because I have a Boris Becker blonde lash/brow thing going on so not much point.

katie Prices eyebrows are a slightly odd shape really. Not sure how old she is, but I am 35 and I had a makeover from Clinique last week, and they did them a lot higher and more going straight out that round and down again. It lifts the eyes more. I won it in a comp, and the makeup artist was superb!

I don't do it every day, if I am heading for a run after the school drop off, I will leave it. I don't want to be a slave to it, but I will put some on if I am actually going out somewhere other than just the school gate. It takes 5-7 mins I reckon.

Actually if you wanted to do make up in a hurry the Clinique chubby sticks for eyes are ace, just rub them over the eyelids and done!

I've got mine down to about 10 minutes. That's moisturiser, pore primer, foundation, powder, bronzer and blusher. Eyeliner, a blended eyeshadow and eyebrows powdered.

I always forget my mascara and usually do it at work!

I get my eyebrows threaded and just fill in the gaps with a powder.

Five minutes - if that. I would agree with you that most people look better with a bit of make up so why wouldn't you? Saw a brilliant quote the other day about getting older - something along the lines of you start to look older when you start to let yourself go. I'd like to think I'll be spending five minutes in the morning applying a bit of makeup (bb cream, powder, mascara and lipstick or gloss at the moment - though important not to get stuck in a make-up rut either) until the day I die.
Re eyebrows, if they are a nice shape then I'd leave well alone - just pluck out any odd stray hairs.

5 mins here - serum, moisturiser, primer, foundation, concealer, cream blush, eyebrows, lip stain, powder. Eyeliner, light eyeshadow and mascara if I have more time.

I have mini/decanted versions of all of these and will do it in the toilets or on the bus if I'm running late.

Eyebrow gel is one of the most important steps for me, I only started doing them a few years ago but I look more awake if I have done them. Mine are dark but quite sparse, if yours are thick I'd maybe not worry so much.

Putting makeup on is as much a part of my daily routine as getting dressed. It hasn't always been. I'm 38 now and have only been wearing makeup for the past 5 years or so. Takes about ten minutes. Primer, foundation, powder, eyebrow pencil, eyeliner, mascara, blusher and lipstick. And I'm ready to face the day. My hair is very low maintenance though, so I don't spend more than a minute under the hairdryer doing that.

It takes me 10 minutes to do a full face and only so long because i have bad skin and take a while to cover it.
After i moisterise i then:
Blend foundation/primer
Blend concealer
Powder
Blend eyeshadow ( my go to shade is urban decay midnight cowboy)
Apply liquid eyeliner
Apply and blend blusher
Apply mascara if i have time- if not i do it on the bus!
Apply lipstick, again if i don't have time i do it later.

I have very thick dark eyebrows so i just use a bit if vasaline to keep them in place. I really hate the filled in scouse brow look though, looks like a really creepy plastic doll.

Every day since 14! But foundation mixed with Bb using a foundation brush and paint on. Translucent powder. Benefit posie tint. Bronzer in the hollowed out bit. Quick bit of liner and mascara and tinted chapstick. 5 mins, done.

I hate the really heavy eyebrow look as well. It's so aging and just...ergh. Makes a face look dirty.

My routine takes about 4 mins in the morning for work, moisturise, tiny bit of foundation, more if it's a client meeting or special event, under-eye concealer, eyebrow pencil to fill in slight gaps, eyeliner, mascara, sometimes a bit of bronzer or eyeshadow, and good to go.

The mascara makes the biggest difference, I think. Followed by eyeliner.

I have to say the summer sun has done way more good for the condition & look of my skin than makeup ever will!

I always wear make up, not huge amounts though. It makes a difference and can be done in ten minutes its just a matter of getting into a routine.

It takes me ten minutes.

city block stuff which is a SPF and acts as a primer (Clinique, it's great).
CC cream - usually foundation but haven't worn that for months
Eyebrow powder stuff (Shavata)
Eyeshadow
Sometimes gel eyeliner
One coat mascara
Bronzed, highlighter, blusher
Lip balm

A more grandiose version of this if going out.

I have been ill for months and barely wore make up that entire time. I didn't care. Mind you I didn't brush my hair either.

Now I am feeling better I am wearing make up more and it does make me feel more presentable and confident, but I am a shallow fucker at the best of times anyway.

I used to put my make up on at the red lights in traffic on the way to work. Grin

I get my eyebrows waxed as they are cara Delevingne bushy naturally.

I then fill the colour in, as they are not as dark as they used to be. But they are not scouse brows.

Oh and concealer for the under eye shadows. How can I forget that.

I never, ever wear lipstick. I remember buying a red one at a train station when bored and putting it on on the train. It was one of those bloody long lasting stain ones and I couldn't get rid of it. I looked like Unity Mitford. Then scrubbed it off with a paper napkin from the buffet and it smeared all over the place which made me look like raddled drunkard. Not my best look. Have steered clear of lipstick since, that was not a successful experiment.

And to think I spent most of the early 90s wearing Rimmel Black Cherry. I think lipstick is for the young Grin

When I did wear make up every day it was just touche eclat and mascara.

I've gone make up free over last 2 years and no issue at all (still get asked out and then asked out again by the same calibre of chap as before, certainly don't feel overlooked). Going on a drinking water kick for skin quality and also stuff like posture and making sure my haircut is as flattering and crisp as possible meant my confidence was fine.

Photographs ARE deceptive, as in a lot of people who look "great fine" IRL actually photograph badly?

So in all those vile "OMG she looks terrible" shots i reckon if you actually bumped into the woman at that moment IRL she'd look absolutely fine.

shitloads of foundation and lippie look great if one is getting pouty shots for facebook every 5 mins but IRL you could see it on

Primer
Foundation
Concealer
Blusher
Setting powder
Meteorites
Mascara
Eyebrows
Lipstick
Lip liner

Takes about 10 mins I'd say. It's a lovely calm and relaxing 10 mins too.

Report
lurkinglorna · 17/09/2013 15:43

PS the products you've mentioned, i'd say it should only take 10-15 min if you're in a routine.

Report
LeGavrOrf · 17/09/2013 15:44

Haha I love meteorites in the middle of that list.

I really want to treat myself to Guerlain make up goodies.

PSS If your eyebrows are a flattering shape leave them

mine takes normally 15/20 mins, usually ass I'm half asleep! I work on a counter so wear full make up, but I don't look orange/fully made up, I prefer natural.

With your brows, just groom them into place and as a previous poster said, clear gel! If you have a clean brow brush or an old clean mascara wand, you can give it a very light spray with hairspray then run it through your brows xx

About 10 mins for every day. start with a bit of light foundation applied with fingers. Then concealer under eyes and on any blemishes. dusting of powder. Usually two eye shadow colours, eye liner across top lids, 2 coats mascara. Blusher and a bright lipstick.
touch it up (powder and lippy) probably 4-7 times during the day depending on the weather.
