Sorry, I don't like BB Cream

I tried the Botanics Radiant Youth BB cream yesterday - and I looked dreadful confused. It didn't really work as a moisturiser, and gave an unpleasant chalky appearance to my skin. Also the Medium was far too light for my fair skin.

In all fairness, I should point out that I am quite a bit older than the average Mumsnetter.

Should I chuck it out, or am I doing something wrong? I could give it another go over a moisturiser, I suppose - but that's missing the point!

reggie it's fab isn't it. I have shade custard, very apt grin

rootypig bought the Nars concealer today... Love it!!

I love the botanics one, it's fab!

I tried Garnier BB. It looked ok when first applied but then turned orange & greasy.

I tried the Body Shop's & it was too dark & didn't blend well.

I've gone back to foundation again.

Darn. Clarins would be so much easier to give up than wine.

Poodle please don't tell me about other wonder products. I've already been out and bought the Botanics cream. (And the BBH, and the Clarisonic, and the Brazillian hair kit and the Tesco waterproof jacket... MN is costing me a LOT of money).

rootypig Wed 11-Sep-13 08:59:39

Can't work out if it's that or too much wine

So often a problem! grin grin

missmartha Wed 11-Sep-13 08:35:35

No, I tried a few but frankly life's too short to go from counter to counter begging for samples.

I have give up, BB creams don't do it for me. It's back to moisturiser and foundation.

I went off to Boots to purchase a BB cream and got collared by the Origins girl who said I didn't want a BB cream, even one of theirs. What I wanted was Vitazing. I didn't really believe and was ready to try and squirm away but let her put some on the back of my hand. Jaw dropping! White cream that turns the right colour for you plus enough to make you look like you just came back off hols. Magical stuff. pretty jaw dropping price too at £28 but I bought one and LOVE it. Don't bother with anything else and my skin has never looked this good, definitely doesn't clog pores as my skin is the first to clog up.

I agree the uk bb creams are IMO just tinted moisturisers.

The original Asian ones are in a whole different league, I use a Korean one, missha perfect cover I think and it's brilliant. I wouldn't dream of using any makeup instead of moisturiser though so always moisturise first.

Further to the offer up thread the CC cream will be winging its way to a happier home ...

I bought the same one as you OP, based on MN rave reviews. Hideous on me! Chalky, drying...the medium was a sort of milky beige awfulness of a colour in my fair/medium skin and showed up every line and blotchy bit on my face. Grrrr.

I have been using Clinique tinted moisturiser for a while. Its really nice, but not quite enough coverage for my slight rosacea, so have ordered the same brand but the CC cream online (eek) which apparently has better coverage...will report back.

ProjectGainsborough The No. 7 one I tried made me break out terribly, but haven't run into that issue with any others. Clarins is meant to be quite good on the skin, so maybe try switching it out with a different one for a week or so lay off the wine grin

ProjectGainsborough Tue 10-Sep-13 20:20:47

Does anyone find them pore-clogging? I've been using the clarins one (Slightly Orange) and SOMETHING is making me very spotty. Can't work out if it's that or too much wine.

Er apologies Sauce - indeed it is Gander & not Gangder, naughty phone!

HaveAGoodDay Tue 10-Sep-13 19:04:42

Im inclined to agree with BeCool & SauceForTheGangder.

I have got the Botanics one & I have to admit I do like how it looks, although I find it doesn't last all day - should it? And I have to apply powder (are we suppose to be putting powder on after & indeed moisturiser before?) otherwise it looks like I've ran to answer the front door...

Bobble33 Tue 10-Sep-13 18:52:00

Saucey Goosey, If the Clinique CC cream is still available I would love to try it.

Yes BeCool - exactly. It's tinted moisturiser with new funky name

BeCool Netherlands Tue 10-Sep-13 14:41:19

I have come to the conclusion that BB Cream is just a new marketing name for 'tinted moisturiser'.

They successfully mugged us into thinking an entire NEW product was invented. ha!!

idococktailshedoesbeer Tue 10-Sep-13 14:11:15

I love my Estee Lauder one, which I think was £36. Wear it instead of foundation now.

Bodicea Tue 10-Sep-13 14:08:28

I love my dior nude b&b cream as i have never worn foundation before apart from mineral makeup so it is a good step up for me. I still moisturise first though. Unless you have very oily skin I don't think you can get away with going it alone. Dior is expensive but I bought two tubes ( I like to mix 002 and 003 and in varying quantities depending on how tanned I am) in feb, wear it every day and there is still
Plenty left. A little goes a long way.

i have recently tried he shishedo one which is fab too. Think that might be even better although not been using it long enough to give a proper verdict.

goodasitgets Tue 10-Sep-13 14:08:02

I use the Missha BB perfect cover in #13. Cheap from eBay and good on pale skin

Bahhhhhumbug Tue 10-Sep-13 14:04:13

Don't know why l'm asking tbh as l rarely get blemishes now - finally!
The wrinkles are taking over where they left off however.

theginganinja Tue 10-Sep-13 14:00:41

rootypig that's good to know, if I get the urge to try BB cream again, I'll definitely take your recommendation on board.
I'll stick with the Avene and the foundation that I'm using at the moment, simply because my skin finds the change in weather to be erm challenging, not ruling out having another go when the summer next rolls around though.

Bahhhhhumbug Tue 10-Sep-13 14:00:26

Ahh right is that same as a concealer or something you put on as a sort of primer all over ?

onlysettleforbutterflies Tue 10-Sep-13 13:56:09

I have ditched my bb cream too and gone back to foundation. I didn't like the coverage and it made my skin really greasy, it was like an oil slick by lunchtime.
