This pink coat thing

I like clothes but I don't really do high fashion, but even I have seen/heard enough to know that the (dusky?) pink coat is supposed to be the thing to have this winter.

This is a colour that really suits me and which I find surprising easy to wear - it goes with most things I find. However, when I buy a new "good" coat, I generally get 10-15 years out of it!

So, high fashion this year, looking ridiculous next? Or in two year's time will it just be a coat in a (mildly) interesting colour rather, than hugely out of date. I'd love a good coat that's not black or camel, but it has to last more than one year.

Oh i know it will be over in a flash OldBag, so if worn in a few years time it won't be "on trend" but will it still be a nice pink coat, or will it be obviously dated?

I don't really understand why British women follow random fashion edicts so sheepily. It's just a way of drumming up sales.

European women focus more on classics & investment in good quality & cut rather than flash in the pans.

Decide what suits you & stick with it. If a pink coat works with your wardrobe then go with it. But you'll never get 10 years out of a pink coat as it will show the dirt. I had one a while back & it lasted for two.

Ha the Zara 'it' coat has sold out of both Zara's in the Spanish city I live in, all these European women here must really rate its cut and quality!

Op I think the trouble with a colour that isn't one of the basics is that it will date quicker than a brown/black/camel coat, but if the colour really suits you then it won't really date, it just won't look bang on trend like it will this season. If you can find one with something else to it it might last longer, eg a cocoon style cut or an interesting lapel. I think the reason the Zara one has done so well here is that it has texture to it so looks less like one of the queen's coats.

I got a pink coat in TK max three years ago and have hardly worn it.. It's lovely.. 35 pound, just always felt to girly.. Yippee hope to wear it sometime later in the season.

In answer to your question.. I would not buy it as an investment coat at all.. I would try Primark etc as it is just a fast fashion item I would say.

Or.. Make sure it is a fabric that you can have dyed at a later date. I dyed my white coat burgundy as it kept showing mud splashes and the result was really good.

I am the sort of person that is totally pink anyway, (if I could wear head to toe pink all day every day I would) but I tend to the more conservative side and stick with pink tops/jumpers etc. So I don't think it'd look out of place on me even if it went in and out of fashion + I'm not really a fashionista but I just can't find one!

I don't really follow fashion, just have my own style, last year I bought a lovely dark green long coat with black flecks in and a black fur collar and belt skinny belt, didn't look at all out of place at a 40s Wartime Weekend I went to, I can see me wearing it for many years, so I reckon if pink is a colour that suits you, just wear it! It will make you smile and you'll feel good. You still have your black and camel ones for formal occasions

I think it's a completely flash in the pan trend. I'd get a more classic coat, say navy, and a gorgeous pink scarf or pink sweater to wear with it.

I don't want a Navy coat though, I want a "different" coat which clearly this won't be this year, but would be any other year. I don't want one because it's fashionable, really have no interest in following trends, but this is a trend I happen to like. It's not always easy to buy a coat that not a "classic" colour so feel I should take advantage while they're in the shops.

I'm not at all worried that it won't be trendy next year, but I'd prefer not to look like a throwback and I can't decide if that will happen, i.e. whether in future years it will just be a coat that happens to be pink, or a coat from that dead pink coat trend iyswim.

I have made a promise to myself not buy cheap clothes anymore. I really don't buy often and am determined to have lovely things. This winter I'm looking for a coat, some new jeans, casual boots and a sloppy jumper. That will be it. (actually, the coat's not really on the list unless I can believe I really need a pink one!)

I would say that, with the colour and the hideous coat shapes this year,it will be something that will just look like a really odd yhrowback
