If you have varicose veins and your legs aren't your best feature ....

.... what are you wearing in the heat? Are you exposing your legs and saying 'to hell with it' or do you keep them under wraps? Is there any way to distract from the veins?

I've been such a mug ... I've known for weeks that we're going away tomorrow to a nice hotel for a few days. What am I packing? Jeans. Bloody jeans! I've gone through my wardrobe but my summer trousers are old, tired and worn. I don't possess a single summer dress and have only one skirt which is an ancient Boden number suitable only for around home.

I really do have awful legs - skinny, really skinny and with horrible varicose veins to boot.

So I can't do anything about going away tomorrow but can order a couple of things so tht when I come back I can put lighter layers on.

Does anyone feel like inspiring me please?

My legs used to be my best feature, but they're now covered in scars (from an accident) and broken veins.

I'm saying "to hell with it" and wearing whatever I feel like, on the grounds that if people don't like it they can not look. Yesterday I wore denim hot pants.

Mine are horrible and getting worse in this pregnancy so I'm looking at maxi dresses, although I did go to the park yesterday and thought sod it and wore shorts!

So it's not just me then but I really do need to ditch the denim. Thanks for the Next suggestion ItCould but we're leaving a 8am so sadly not an option.

Am trying to watch the tennis and simultaneously shop. Is there such thing as a casual maxi dress? And, are they forgiving of a pot belly (oh I paint a lovely picture of myself!)?

Does false tan help disguise veins at all?

I am short and maxi dresses are very long on me, thankfully. I just pop on flat shoes and no one can see my legs.

where are you going? could you buy a couple of leg-covering things when you get there? (ie thin cotton trousers or maxi dresses)

I know someone like you. She just makes sure she has some tan ( sun or fake) and shows off her otherwise perfect pins. Does look ok with a bit of colour.

I am using Sally Hansen Spray tan in my blue legs. Definetly helps to cover and just washes off.

Have a lovely time

My legs aren't too bad in terms of shape, but I have horrible varicose veins on one. I used to worry about showing them (have had them since my early 20s) but now I have decided that I don't care. I do pop a bit of fake tan on though as that helps.

Longer term, have you looked onto having your vv's lasered? I had it and it was amazing. One day off work, a week or so while my legs depuffed, then my legs were varicose free. Mine were so bad, my legs had completely different shapes.

Maxi dresses, long skirts with tee shirts/vest tops/floaty tops

Thanks for all the replies. I think I need to invest in fake tan, a maxi dress
or two and to heck with my legs!

Thank you for all the suggestions re a quick wardrobe update for the next few days - I reckon I'm stuck with what I have. Have packed some nice summer tops and sandals and if there's a nice clothes shop at our destination (countryside but small village close by) then a-shopping-I-shall-go. Meantime, what does anyone think of this? I've seen some gorgeous Maxi's online but havent got the figure for straight-cut and clingy!!

that's absolutely gorgeous, MrsM Smile

(have they got the size above what you normally buy though? viscose shrinks at least a size on first washing IME Sad)

Oh do you like it? I didn't even look at the fabric - maybe its a bad idea. I'm a 10 and it's in stock but wonder whether I ought to order a 12 too to try on? I owe DT2 a pretty summer dress (green eyed monster as DT1 has one and she doesn't) and she has seen one on Crew so I want to order before I go to bed.

like it very much! Smile

but even washed at 30 I have found that things shrink. before I knew that, things that fitted beautifully when I first got them were unwearable after first wash Sad so now I always buy a size up

it does depend to a certain extent on the weave - some are stretchy, some are kind of rigid. stretchy kind have nore inbuilt tolerance (but I still buy a size up!)
