Drinking water - how do you do it?

My new years resolution was to drink a large jug of water each day with a view to gaining gorgeous skin and for general health. I did it for about 3 days then went back to drinking mostly instant coffee.

I know its just a case of drinking the stuff, but how do others actually get around to drinking a large amount of water each day?

I never fancy a drink of water unless I am really thirsty. I work in a cold office and I never want to drink anything cold, so drinking cold water when I am feeling cold is torture. I keep hydrated by drinking tea at work.

It is a myth that you have to drink pure water to stay hydrated BTW. As long as you are drinking fluid (non alcoholic) you will be fine.

Oh, and I have excellent skin and look years younger.

It makes a massive difference to how healthy and alert I feel, if I drink loads of water. At work I drink tea by the bucketload until lunchtime, then I switch to water and I do usually have about a litre of water between lunch and dinner. I feel tired, hungry and headachey long before I feel thirsty.

I have a theory that many of the grouchy toddlers I see out and about are just thirsty. DS is always glugging on water.

But I do like a glass bottle of wine of an evening so I guess it balances itself out. My skin was ace during pregnancy as I abstained blush

I drink a lot of water. The water where we live if pretty good quality but it isn't everywhere else. I bought myself a "bobble" bottle has a wee filter in it so the water you drink always tastes nice. I think it's less of a chore drinking out of a bottle rather than a glass too.

Get the water your body app , my dd told me about this and its really helped. It says how much you need to drink and reminds you throughout the day . You can also record how much you drink smile

Have been drinking at least 8 large glasses of water a day over the past week and have already noticed how much clearer my skin is. Was definitely far more dehydrated before. Am keeping this up!

I have a 700ml sports bottle that I fill up a couple of times a day and sip it throughout. I add lemon and lime slices to it because I find plain water a bit boring.

Have gone cold turkey from a serious diet coke and red bull addiction. It wasn't fun to start with but now I can drink water quite happily.

I'm low carbing at the moment and according to my weight I should drink 3.5 litres of water a day. I did this for a few days and had to pee every 30 minutes. This clearly means that I don't need all that water.

I drink about a litre a day plus a decaff coffee and a decaff tea.

Technically you need around 2 litres of fluid per day, but most of that will be gotten from fruit and vegetables, and other food sources. The "2 litres of water" as a separate thing came from a misunderstanding of dietary fluid as opposed to pure water: http://scienceillustrated.com.au/blog/science/the-myth-that-we-need-to-drink-two-litres-of-water-a-day/

Having said that, if 2 litres makes you feel better then go ahead, especially if your typical diet doesn't contain a lot of vegetables.

I am amazed that the various dogs/horses/small furry pets I've owned during my lifetime lived as long as they did, given how they just had a drink when they were thirsty not every other bloody hour.

I try to have a drink too before eating as I can get confused if thirsty /hungry. This slows snacking for me

I have a pint of water first thing in the morning before my coffee.

I had loads of problems with recurrent UTIs and kidney stones. The consultant told me to keep drinking all day every day. Then I had the shockwave therapy on kidney stones and afterwards they told me to drink 4 litres per day!

I got into the habit of drinking shed loads of water and never really stopped. I agree with sparklingsea. The more you drink, the more you want it and need it. I feel thirsty all the time and can't go anywhere without a bottle of water now. It does keep UTIs and kidney stones at bay.

The trick to managing your daily quota I was told, was to keep a bottle each day with the amount of water you aim to drink in the fridge and then keep decanting it into a smaller bottle which you take with you and keep taking sips from. You then top up the smaller bottle and start again until the whole lot is gone.

Op....I drink gallons of tea and coffee in a day....I just make sure I have a glass of water with every one.

Is it the same with feeling hungry? I should continually eat so that I never feel hungry as that would mean I was starving? Might have to investigate this.

Of course its important to stay hydrated but all this drinking eight glasses a day batshit is a myth originally perpetuated by bottled water companies to push their product.

I just try and always have a bottle with me in view so it reminds me. Surpassed myself last night by drinking 3l at the gym shock but it was roasting

I've realised recently that I am always thirsty and that being dehydrated could be the cause of my chronic constipation blush. Obvious I know, but it just didn't click. Also Flylady's june habit was drinking water so I got a few reminders by email. I bought a 750ml plastic drinking bottle which has a clicker on the side to count how many bottles you've filled and aim to drink 3 of these a day. I pace myself so 1 bottle by 1pm, next by 5pm and last by 9pm. If I haven't finished the bottle by the deadline I drink whateve remains in the bottle in one go. I've just started doing this but am hoping it will do the trick.

Some people never get thirsty.

I drink lots, so does ds, we drink with every meal and never go anywhere without a bottle in my bag.
