What sort of jacket or cardi is a good all rounder to wear in this weather?

One minute I'm cold when the sun goes in and the next I'm baking hot when it comes out again.

I don't suit blazer styles as I have big boobs and big hips and also don't like short jackets, no matter what Gok, Trinny or susannah say.

Any recommendations please, with links if possible.

Many thanks. I'm completely rubbish at clothes. At the pub today I wore dP's black fleece jacket as I only have a boden rainy day mac, which is fleece lined or a Didrikson winter coat. I am confused so any help would be really appreciated.

That's so wierd, I was just about to post much the same question! All of my light jackets feel too smart but you do need something as the sun never seems to stay out that long! In my head I am going for this sort of look (without the hat!) but when I try anything similar on it doesn't look very flattering - maybe because I don't look like Jennifer Aniston! I think I need something more fitted.

OP what's your style? I am quite casual day to day so need something to go with jeans etc and flipflops or Converse. If I wear non- denim on my bottom half then I do love a denim jacket or shirt but obviously that doesn't really work with jeans.

Cambridge, I love jennifer Aniston's style but just feel all bunched up around my middle if I wear those single button blazers. Also, I just look like a bag lady if I wear those longer style cardigan jacket things.

My style is ermmm... Non existent. I was the only one at the school gates today in dark jeans and a jumper. Felt like a right idiot but that's all I had to wear. I lost weight twice recently but then put it all back on, the same 10 lbs and then some. It seems to have all gone around my middle. :(

Anyway, I would definitely describe myself as a frump! But I've always struggled with clothes. Was fine at work when I could wear a suit but having to go out with no uniform is a bit depressing for me. I feel like a 'good' jacket would sort that out, but in the heat today 8'd have still looked really silly.

I like denim jackets but I wear jeans all the time as I have veiny legs with thick calves that I am too conscious of. I also don't really like the double denim look.

I did look at the boden rainy day mac but don't really like the one I have so decided against that. I'm not very tall but both Boden and M&S coats/jackets and tops come up short on the sleeve on me.

I want something a bit more 'smart' than a raincoat jacket type thing. The Next biker jacket looks like a good one to try but they're sold out in my size.

I have a fenn wright and Manson coat that I love that's a great one for spring/autumn - it's similar to this but blue/grey. I really like it with slim jeans and a scarf. Then it doesn't matter what I'm wearing underneath, I still look as though I've made a bit of an effort but not too much.

You say you don't like blazers, but if you're an hourglass (and you sound like you are), a single-breasted jacket is percect for you.
I got a couple of jersey ones recently, this in navy and a cheapie grey one from Uniqlo.
Denim jackets don't suit me; you can throw these on over skinny jeans or a dress/skirt depending on how casual or dressed up you want to look.

Brandnewbright, both of those look lovely. I'll see if I can find something similar in JL as I think they have a fenn wright concession. I'll also go and have a look at the Zara one. I'm not sure zara stuff fits me though as some of their largest size stuff is a bit on the small side for me.

Shotgun, I guess I am an hourglass but I find with jackets like the one you've linked to, look lovely when I see them on other people or on the hangar but not on me. They seem to cut me across my widest bit, my hips and just makes me feel like a diamond shape and I cannot wear skinny jeans as they make my legs look like overstuffed sausages.

I really do need to lose weight, again, but I need some summery/hot weather stuff for now.

I'm actually sitting here watching fashion on QVC! I need help! Lol.

What dress size are you? Happy to have a little hunt for something in the right size. I'm a 14 so definitely not skinny but it's about getting the proportions right - a loose fitting coat with wide leg trousers won't work. If you're going looser through the leg then a more fitted jacket works better. I like a mid thigh length with minimal fuss / detailing.

A good test to see if your perception of yourself is correct: when you try something on, take a photo in the changing room. Gives you a more objective view, as if you're looking at someone else.

It's saved me loads of money but I've also been surprised occasionally by seeing myself looking okay in things I initially thought were no good.

(Doouble-breasted with boobs and hips = brick shape).

Thanks again. I'm a 16 in most shops on top and can get into size 14 jeans from next, the slim lift and shape ones.

I think I like jeans as I feel like they help hold me in place, if that makes sense. Maybe I should be thinking about long skirts instead and then I could do the denim jacket thing. Any recommendations on long skirt styles? Something that will hide all the lumpy bits but not one that 'billows' around my waist.

I found this shape a bit boxy - might be the same on you if you go in at the middle.

Thing is, I know you're conscious of your weight, but the shapes that suit your figure are pretty much the same whatever weight you are. The difference is you can feel a bit shy about having it all on display when you feel overweight.

But clothes that don't flatter your basic shape are just camouflage, imo, and don't make you look thinner anyway, so what's the point?
If you have an hourglass figure you're blessed with the ideal proportions - even if there's more of you than you'd like.
