How do I remove shellac from my nails quickly?

Hello,

I'm in for a hysteroscopy tomorrow and I need to remove my shellac nails before the op, I'd normally ask my salon, but they are closed today.
Apart from picking it off, what can I do?

Soak in pure acetone and gently scrape off. If doesn't come easily don't peel it, you will damage your nail.

do you have pure acetone? I got mine from home bargains. You should soak them off in acetone rather than pick it as you will pick the top layers of your nails off with the polish

If you have a nice hot bath and soak for a bit, it softens and peels off quite easily when you get out! Not the official way to do it, obvs...

Get hold of some acetone if you can (I get mine from Home Bargain). Soak your nails then very gently scrape polish off with a metal cuticle stick or similar nail tool. Please only pick off as a very last resort - made that mistake first time I had shellac and peeled off the top layer of my nails, they were wrecked for months. Good luck for your op

File across the nail - on the polish - to break it up a bit. Before soaking cotton wool in acetone. Cotton wool on nail and keep it on there for a while. You might need to wrap it on with foil or something. Leave for a bit. Then some of it will come off - you'll likely still need to use an orange stick to scrape it off

Please don't do what I did..scrape it off with a kitchen knife.It's taken 6 months for my nails to recover.

I watched someone yesterday have some nails taken off (not sure what type they were), but if the bottle of stuff was acetone rather than nail varnish remover - which is often ethyl acetate these days, the old stuff is mainly acetone) doing exactly what BadBlue said.

Are you sure it has to come off? I had an operation last year and they said gel nails were fine. Depends on the hospital I suppose!

poppywearer, I think if you're having a GA they make you take it off to check your nail beds aren't going blue, or something like that.

Put acetone (or nail varnish remover containing acetone) in small bowl big enough for fingers. Then quarter fill bigger bowl with very hot water, put small bowl in bigger bowl (like Bain Marie) and put fingers (only nails really) in small bowl. Warmth seems to help the acetone work more quickly, then use orange stick to help it come off once you've soaked for a few minutes.

Will the acetone thing work for full gel acrylic falsies?

I had mine done for bridesmaid duties 2.5 weeks ago and they've grown out quite a bit and are starting to look a bit daft, but they are stuck fast and I'm pretty sure the tips are put on with superglue or something?

I've never had these done before so no idea what's supposed to happen - didn't think to ask!

Thanks ladies, it took awhile but came off. The nurse said it needed to come off.

shellac should always be wrapped off never soaked acetone cotton pad tin foil wrap for 10 mins use an orange stick to scrap remaining off never peel as it will damage your nails proper shellac doesnt need to be filed or buffed before.

gel extensions need soaking in pure acetone for 20mins.

if extension have been done at a Chinese nail bar they need soakibg up to an hr
