Ladies can I have your opinion on this dress? Planning to wear to a wedding, maybe with shortish navy jacket. I'm late 40s and a size 16 5'8". www.fennwrightmanson.com/dresses/olivia_dress_multi.htm

It's sweet and inoffensive but I reckon you could get something more stylish for your money.

It's a huge amount of money for something not terribly exciting. I think there are nicer things around. What colours do you like?

Its nice but the length might be a bit frumpy? Personally I wouldnt wear it with a navy jacket, I'd prob pick out the cobalt if you really wanted a jacket. Have you big norks, is that why you chose that style?

I think it's lovely. Over my budget being silk, but lovely.

As for being a frumpy length, as a 45 year old size 16 I have no wish to show the world my knees!

Am not a very good shopper! I like blues and look ok in reds but anything orange/yellow looks terrible with my colouring. And obv. As its a wedding I need to steer clear of white or cream.

Awks not particularly big norks compared to the rest of me, I just feel too large all over Sad and am apple shaped.

Any alternative suggestions welcome kind stylish ladies.

Thanks startail! I've spent ages and ages looking online and in the shops and I thought that everything else I tried on looked awful.

Thank you for the suggestions Wishful. I'm going to have a good look at Monsoon. Hadn't thought of looking there. I'm not keen anything too tight (shows all the bumps even with good shape wear).

I'm beginning to think you're right Awks. Will take a trip to Monsoon and maybe Jaeger as looking online they have lots of hopefully less frumpy dresses. I like this one www.jaeger.co.uk/Bow%20Back%20Dress/630140E,en_GB,pd.html?dwvar_630140E_color=05300&dwvar_630140E_size=8&start=56&cgid=women-dresses

I think it's really pretty but I don't think it will work with a navy jacket as that will be too heavy.

I like the style personally and the colours are lovely.

A cropped cashmere Cardigan and some pale peep toes would work.

I think Miss S stuff probably too short, as OP is v tall. Also, it's v hard to look okay in 'cheap' dresses, once you hit 40s imho - Miss S is quite teenage, no?

Red

Similar to OP one but much cheaper

It's Boden but I really like this

Remus thank you I really like all of your suggestions - though I think the Westwood one might be too short. I'm ok with anything that reaches the knee but not anything higher as feel my knees have got fat just like the rest of me Grin and there's no way I'm going into Miss S! Haven't shopped in there since I was a lovely skinny 25 year old. I'm off to boden order Smile.

Thank you ladies of s&b you've probably saved me from looking like the mutton dressed as mutton! Thanks

this would work in an apple shape. I like the grecian maxi too from that site. I imagine it would look beautiful with strappy heels

Boden cuts well for apples but size down in most cases. I like this in navy.

next and therefore cheap. But flattering on an apple - I know as have tried it on.

Would look great with good bag and heels in bright colour.

I also don't like to spend much on dresses for weddings as just don't get the wear out of them.

The lara and Bella - if you wait a second it should bring up a pop-up with the relevant dresses on.

Whistles website is soooo rubbish.
