Can you help me find a wedding dress for under £250?

Hi

Not getting married til next year so no rush, can hang on til sale time rolls around later this year, but trying to find suitable dresses that I can keep an eye on, ready to pounce if and when the price is right.

I like lacey/vintagey type stuff, size 14 pear (although hoping to be 12 by time W-day comes) and don't fancy strapless.

I like this BHS dress but it looks a bit weirdly shiny.... I didn't think chiffon was shiny Confused and some of the Charlotte Balbier dresses look amazing but £££.

I'm pretty useless when it comes to shopping for clothes for myself, and I really don't want to get this wrong or spend silly money when I could have got something for less money elsewhere. Toyed with the idea of having one made but haven't a clue where to begin.

Could you lovely S&B lot help at all??

x post! Gorgeous dress.

Are there any Monsoon stores where you can try their dresses or is the bridal stuff all online?

Monsoon does pretty much the whole bridal range in store at my local shop.

I bought mine with one of the 25% off deals they do occasionally, then it went into the sale at 70% off, so i took the original one back and then re-bought it. Ended up costing less than £80.

I had mine made for me for £220.

Have a look on ebay and then contact the people that make them. I found one I loved, and found the seamstress was local to me so I went and had it made by her.

Was brilliant Smile

I got mine from here - wedding dress factory outlet
Think I spent about £250 on it.
I travelled quite a long way to get there and was a bit worried when I got there as it looked a bit shabby but there was a fab selection.

I brought mine from house of Fraser for £150 ! Bargain ! Especially as I was 25 weeks pregnant wearing it and it wasn't even a maternity dress it just hung really well...!

I didn't have a budget for a wedding dress and even tried on a Jenny packham (I think that's what it was, the same designer that worked on Kate middletons dress) that was £6,500 but the house of Fraser dress beat it hands down !

Bridesmaid dress! I couldn't find any wedding dresses I liked in my budget - I didn't want the strapless ones that everywhere sold. One lovely shop asked me if I would mind wearing a bridesmaid dress as a wedding dress.....

I said I wouldn't and I tried on lots of lovely bridesmaid dresses that were far more my style, and we just ordered it in ivory! It was under 200 pounds. Something similar to this www.dessy.com/dresses/bridesmaid/6662/#.UWxXzhzdgTk

I also got a bridesmaid dress for my wedding dress. So much cheaper and style was far more me than any bridal dress I tried on. My dress was quite 1940's - kind of off the shoulder two piece. Cost £140 including major adjustments which were needed as I dropped 2 dress sizes between ordering dress and wedding day!!

itsnot I have suggested bridesmaid dresses to so many friends who are getting married, but no one ever seems to go for it, preferring a more traditional dress. I was so happy the dress shop was in suggested it, I ended up with far more choice in my style. And saved hundreds!

Wow thanks everyone! some fab ideas.

ivana what an amazing price, will have to keep my eyes peeled for Monsoon's sale, that Carlotta dress is really gorgeous, just not sure it'll suit my shape (got a pretty big bum!)

Didn't realise tkmaxx did bridalwear either, looks like Stock changes fast though, will have to be quick. Bridesmaid dress in ivory is a great idea and that dessy dress is lush.

guess I better get trying some on for shape ideas (A-line or empire best?) and get ready for bargain hunting!

lemon there's a similar outlet not too far, about 30 miles, from me, just wasn't sure what sort of prices to expect.
