Do you wear pullovers with nothing underneath?

I can't stand the feel of wool directly on my skin, even if it's cashmere.
I always wear either a silky camisole top or a cotton vest

While I love wearing a vest on its own as a top for most of the year, I wouldn't dream of wearing one underneath anything else - much too restrictive, as I like to feel a little airy space between me and my clothes. I've got a number of machine-washable jumpers that I always wear with nothing (or a bra) underneath. It's probably a throw-back to my childhood rebellion against wearing underwear vests. DH is similarly inclined, his favourite garments being a number of well-worn, well washed and comfortably soft, sweatshirts and knitted jumpers, all worn with nothing underneath.

I've been wearing a jumper and jeggings all day. It's as close as you can get to jammies without being frowned on in waitrose. wink

But what you're saying is nobody should wear a jumper unless it's cold enough to need two layers, so for example a t-shirt isn't warm enough but a t-shirt plus jumper is too warm whereas jumper on it's own is just right. Also it's often difficult, especially with v-necks to find a top to go underneath that you can't see. I'm thinking lightweight rather than chunky jumpers.

Bra,vest,T shirt,jumper,fleece,coat...............Winter with boiler on the blink.

Summer, let me see if I can remember. The vest/camisole is ditched.

I have noticed a trend where people wear rolled up trousers with low shoes, so that the bare ankle shows. That must mean no socks. And stinky shoes!

OP you are absolutely right, I see people with just jumpers on and secretly hope they have a vest on underneath or something that I just can't see.

Same thing with shoes, they NEED to have socks underneath.

OP, I'm afraid I wear knacker old jumpers to bed.

But what if it got too warm and you want to take off your jumper and you've got nothing underneath? Stripping is generally not considered quite the thing, I understand...

No way! A pullover is like an add on isn't it? So you wear a t shirt/shirt/top type thing first (well over your bra!!) then the pullover/sweater. Even if it's made of cotton, I'd think it slightly weird to just wear that.... It's like having to wash a jacket after every use.

PretzelTime Fri 15-Mar-13 21:02:16

Erm, I wear a bra under mine...
Bras don't count!

So...it's a rebel thing? Or maybe it's me who is weird. I always thought sweaters were like jackets: You wear them over an already existing outfit.

I actually wore my blue cashmere jumper without a vest yesterday! It was just out of the wash and super soft and lovely!

I wear my cashmere sweaters without even a vest <rebel>

Erm, I wear a bra under mine...

Vests are for proper winter.

dp does it I mean

TrinityRhino Fri 15-Mar-13 20:43:39

I would never do it but do does it and it makes me want to punch things grin

scarlettsmummy2 Fri 15-Mar-13 20:42:04

I wear my cashmere and angora jumpers with just a vest and wash after every wear- as they are pure wool they wash fine!

Hassled Fri 15-Mar-13 20:22:02

Oh - I've met one now grin. Sorry.

Hassled Fri 15-Mar-13 20:21:24

Plus, aren't most sweaters inherently itchy? You need a layer to protect from the itch.

Who are these people, though? I've never met them.

I'm doing so today. It is a 100% cotton jumper with cut outs across the back. I have a jacket over it. But the jacket is in a scratchy fabric and it is scratching me through the keyholes in the jumper.

So I won't do it again - thank you for over-thinking this for me, so I can now learn from my mistake.

I just learnt that apparently some people do not wear layers underneath pullovers/sweaters. What the...! Isn't the point of this garment that you wear it over your top if it's too cold with only the top. And then if it gets too warm you can take off the first layer! But you can't do that if you only wear one layer. You'll get super sweaty in the sweater and then you have to launder it after each wear.

If you do this, explain yourself or something grin
