What would you spend on a nail polish?

I have a few Chanel and Dior nail polishes which I love, despite the fact that I don't think they are any better than cheaper brands... especially the Chanel (chips like a bastard). They're about £18.00 each which I think is s stupid amount of money.

Just seen this

Really? REALLY?!?!

My mind is boggled.

Lula - the one in the link is a smidge above my budget. I spend about £10 on Leighton Denny which I think is brilliant and I can really tell the difference over cheaper ones.

I spent £19 on Nails Inc leather and skulls and though that expensive!
That's my limit really, and would only spend that occasionally.
Have Leighton Denny/OPI/Essie etc mixed in with Primark/Barry M/Rimmel etc.

I like Leighton Denny polishes too. I got a nice set from TK MAzz a few weeks back, with four polishes, a clear top coat, crystal nail file and fast dry spray all in a dinnky silver bag. It was first sold on that shopping channel (can't remember the name) for £35, I think. Was £20 in TK Maxx.

Yes, I think that polish is a smidge above most budgets!

Is that Nails Inc leather set good, Netto?

Can you re-use the skulls?

I've just tried it this morning, the nail varnish is just like the concrete, not really leathery, though I like it.
I haven't put the skulls on, they would appear to be reusable but I reckon they'll probably ping off.
I'm going to use them for a lunch I'm going to in a couple of weeks.
Not worth £19 I don't think.

Yes, I was worried about them pinging off. You can't put a top coat on, can you? Would ruin the effect, presumably?

I've got the £17 version of the Azature with just the one black diamond in it. It's a bit shit tbh. Chanel is ok, but chips easily, I find. Still looking for the holy grail of non-chipping polish.

I spent £25 on Tom Ford African Violet Blush in my defence I was having a really bad day...

I love Chanel polishes for the beautiful colours, and also rate Essie. It's great now that you can get them from Boots for £8 too.

L'Oreal produce a polish in pot which looks more akin to a lipgloss pot. It has a built in topcoat and is excellent. Manicure lasts an entire week, chip free.

Mine are all Nails Inc, some I've got from magazines or set in TK Maxx so don't pay full price all the time.

I do the base coat, two coats of colour, top coat method. It stays put perfectly for a week of keyboard typing, two if I fill in the edges Smile

For normal polish, under a tenner.
Fashions colours I will only wear for an occasion, 2 or 3
Decent gel polish that will last 2 weeks, 10-15 quid

Well it has real diamonds so I guess that explains the price but if I had that kind of money I'd be spending it on cutting edge facials and massages personally. The most expensive polish I've ever bought is Chanel - I love it for toenails though I agree it does chip on hands.

Amber - pretty bottles, Azature.

Oh my, that Tom Ford polish is pretty, AlwaysSleepingBeauty

I've got loads of Nails Inc and Essie polishes, some of them are pretty chip proff but other are not.

I do the base/ 2/ top thing as well, Something. I use Seche Vite, which I find helps with chipping but also when it does start coming off you can actually peel the polish off. Most satisfying

blimey recession, what recession?? that's sold out!!

i find all polishes pretty crap at staying power though some shades last longer than others - guess it's all in the mix!

prefer OPI above all overs though

sorry to say this but I think the 'real' diamonds in nail polish is such a gimmick. isn't this the one Kelly Osbourne promoted? it was such a con, lots of PR, fanfare in press then surprise surprise the company responsible, Azature, came up with a 'cheaper' version to sell to the grateful hoi polloi. Don't fall for it people.

I never buy Chanel (or any fashion designer branded cosmetics) because whilst I'd be prepared to pay for their fashion design, I would not pay over the odds for, quite frankly, bog-standard quality, 'designer' nail polish. It is merely letting people think they can buy into the brand, fair play if you want to tho. For a fraction of the price, Revlon do an excellent version of the 'limited edition' still on sale btw Chanel peridot (green/gold colour) that was all the rage last year Hmm

Best nail colour I've tried yet is OPI (under a tenner) esp the mini pots as they don't go gloopy. Essi is great too esp the wide brush, also under a tenner.

I could buy a massive 5 bed 3 bath home with a pool and land in the town where DH's family live (SA, not UK), for the price of that nail polish! (just been ogling property porn online).

Am also a fan of OPI.

I use nails inc and I too bought the black leather effect one. Im also after the cheaper azature one but unlike the one in the link its only 1 crushed diamond in it making it way within my budget.

I know it's not pedants' corner, but surely it's nail VARNISH? Polish is something you polish with, and varnish is something you use as a coating.

Why is everyone suddenly calling it polish?

Ah boris OPI call it nail laquer just to confuse things.

(Something to do with originally working in the dental proffession, but maybe I made that up)

I've bought OPI from "that shopping channel" that Lula can't remember (that'll be QVC then) but never Leighton Denny.

I had OPI on my toenails for ages because I CBA removing it.

Report
LulaPalooza · 24/02/2013 14:14

Heh. Yes, QVC. Have never bought anything from QVC so couldn't remember the name.

boris - Most companies call it polish these days. Probably because of the US market.

I like OPI and Barry M polishes. I don't especially like Nails Inc as I find they don't last at all.
