ear piercing recommendation in london

dd will be ten this birthday. I had originally said she could have her ears pierced at 9 but was really relieved when she was too scared. She has now overcome her fears and wants it done.

I think it's a bit of a right of passage and although I'm a bit sad that she's not my baby anymore I'm also quite excited and want to make it a day out. We live in london suburbs and am thinking a day out in london to get them done. Saw recommendations for needles and also for selfridges but now read that selfridges don't do it any more and that needles not always allowed for kids. Does anyone have any recommendations? plus I cannot wear anything except gold, dunno about dd but she has some food allergies. How does titanium differ from gold (don't know if I can wear that as not really tried)

You could try Harrods. I finally had my ears pierced at the grand old age of 28 and had them done there with Titanium studs....

Metalmorphosis in top shop on Oxford Street, they did my nipple and I was really impressed by how professional they were etc. That's the shop that used to be in Selfridges.

Titanium is iners as is surgical steel so if you can't wear anything but Gold, it sounds like a nickel allergy and SS/titanium will be fine too.

Umm, I know my place suggestion may sound odd, but it may be worth ringing Hell to Pay in Camden and asking them if they'll do it (as I know they have age restrictions, but it may be different if your daughter is accompanied by you)

I've walked out of piercing places I've felt uncomfortable with, and I loathe Camden with a passion (especially some of their questionable looking piercing/tattoo places), but Reka is the only person I'd let go near me with a needle (I'm training to be a surgeon, v fussy Wink ) she's very professional, puts your mind at rest and I would recommend her to anyone I cared about.

And yes, whereever you go, needles only! (I had 2 sets done with a gun when I was young and ignorant - needles all the way!)

thanks. i have had all my piercings done with a gun (last one was about 20 years ago) but I really didn't research it at all and just had them on a whim but objections make sense to me, think thats why my upper ear one is so painful. Just a bit worried that, as she was initially scared, a needle will unnerve her even more.

Thanks turnipcake, I have no idea without recommendations how to judge a tattooist or piercing studio as they all look the same. Although camden is scuzzy my girls are just discovering it and it is their idea of heaven (loads of tat and a wagamamas!!) and their dad works there so they like visiting. Will give them a call. Do you also know of cold steel? any idea if they are any good?

Mrs Morton, Thanks for your help as well, dd would also prob like a bit of central london and i suspect will need to call a few places as it seems it's not just automatic that a place will pierce a kids ears.

I've heard Cold Steel can be a bit hit and miss, but I think that depends on the person - I've read (a few years back) that Julie is supposed to be very good. I'm not sure if she's still there, but it's worth an ask.

Thanks Turnip I'll do a ring round and try gp too though ours is such a crook I'm not sure that would be any safer! How did you know yours did it early bird?

I just checked my metalmorphosis leaflet. They do under 16s with a parent present but they use a "studex gun". Not sure what one of those is!!

When we went for dd's annual health check, we asked the gp where she would recommend we go for ear piercing. She informed us that she did it in her surgery (fwiw, she is a private GP).

mrs morton when i googled before posting a query here I found discussions about selfridges using a disposable gun. Maybe it's that? I don't really know how that's less traumatic? Personally I have three holes in each of my earlobes which were done with guns and I m not sure they were so bad. Will give them a call and find out.

Earlybird, thanks, My gp is nat health but also does private work. i might see if they can do anything but it's not really a day out and is generally somewhere i prefer to avoid...

I had my ears done with a gun, never had a problem. At 10 I wouldn't have liked having it done with a needle - at least with a gun it's over and done with in a second.

Others with a needle though!

Yes, it says something like disposable cartridge? I'm not too well informed tbh but might be worth giving them a call.
