Mixing hair dyes?

So it seems cunting Boots are discontinuing their Botanics hair dyes, which is very Unreasonable as their 'Warmed Terracotta Auburn' is the ONLY perfect shade of dark browny red that isn't purple.

T'internet has suggested to me that I can mix a brown with a red to get the desired result. Is this true? Can anyone provide pointers?

Alternatively, if anyone knows of a fabulous dark auburn shade I'd be very interested...

thanks in advance

I wouldn't want to be messing with mixing dyes, especially not different brands together. Not unless you know the chemistry of it and you know what you're doing. A professional might tell you otherwise I don't know, it just seems a little dangerous to me (chemical burns).

I have been told you can mix henna to create your own colour though
