The skin all around my knuckles has gone all red and dry
can anyone recommend a nice hand cream to make my hands all soft again? My skin is quite sensitive anyway so I need something gentle that isn't going to irritate it further.
TIA
The Clarins one is good. Although not cheap. Ditto l'occitane Shea butter one.
Body shop hemp.
OOr I put a whole load of vaseline on overnight and wear cotton gloves.
Hemp from The Body Shop. I had terribly dry hands when I worked in a kitchen and was washing up for 8-12 hours a day. Now lovely and soft
Another one for Body Shop Hemp.
Also L'occitane shea butter but is a lot more pricey than the Body Shop cream.
Kitchen Garden Marigold and Shea butter. I've never used anything like it. I'm a gardener, I'm 40, and this stuff makes my hands look as though I were five years old.
It's quite strongly scented, but frankly I'd smear cow dung on my hands if it worked this well.
Lush Helping Hands.
I think the Body Shop one would be about on my budget. Thanks for the suggestions everyone, I'll give it a go
I use atrixo (because I'm such an old woman)
but my main hint whatever you use - wear cotton gloves (the kind you get from the chemist) under your normal gloves when you're out, after you've moisturized for at least half an hour and after moisturizing when you're in bed.
I like Neutrogena but recently tried out Soap & Glory Hand Food and tis excellent.
Also Flexitol Heel Balm works wonders on rough hands.
I use Atrixo (I blame my Mum) but I like it and it soaks in easily.
But might be tempted to track down some of that Kitchen Garden stuff. Sounds good.
My hands are terrible in this weather and this is the only hand cream that sorts them out https://www.lush.co.uk/product/187/Handy-Gurugu-Hand-Cream
Sali Hughes (beauty guru) has done a couple of columns:

Her recommendations generally good and more in the comments underneath.
Neutrogena unperfumed is what you need. Or Atrixo.
Whatever you do,try to keep your hands dry when you are (working) outdoors in this weather (eg cleaning out animals).
Another one for body shop hemp. I have tried alsorts over the years, including prescription stuff, this is the only stuff that has tackled my hands.
L'occtaine shea butter in whatever scent. God, I love it. Its the best handcream ever.
Body shop Hemp < used by a lot of farmers I know whose hands are in cold wet weather most of the day>.
And I also like Clarins Hand and Nail treatment.
Recently bought La Roche Posay hand repair cream in Boots to rescue my hands, in a space of a week my hands have been transformed, got to be the best ever hand cream, recommend without hesitation!
Another vote for Clarins
Neutrogena Norwegian Formula overnight - smear a fair bit on, it's really too rich to put loads on during the day. Then during the day you can use any old lighter hand cream after each hand wash or dish washy
After a few days of that you'll be sorted - promise!
Oh wow so many suggestions - thanks everyone! My hands feel really tight and horrible I'm willing to try anything right now
I'll also vouch for Body Shop Hemp, it's quite smelly though, I use it at night time as its a bit thick and takes ages to absorb. I'm quite sensitive to the slimy hands sensation though, so what bothers me prob wouldn't bother others.
It may be worth a trip to the gp's.
I get eczema on my hands and have been prescribed Doublebase which is good to keep in the bathroom and use every time I wash my hands.I found plain aqueous cream made my hands sting even more though for some reason.
Body shop hemp . It's fab and on offer online.
