Bobbi Brown- love, hate, overrated?

Missbopeep · 05/02/2013 19:20

I have quite a bit- foundation, blusher- powder and pot rouge- concealer, eye pencil and eye shadow.

But sometimes I wonder if I have been seduced by the packaging and the lovely sales assts.

I rate their concealer- great for under eyes- and foundation because I am uber pale and hardly anyone does foundations that work for me colour-wise.

But blushers and shadows- at £17 a pop- hmmm.
Pot Rouge is the new version and it's so greasy- makes my cheeks look wet when applied and lasts for an hour.

Currently using a Revlon eyeshadow quad that was £7 ish and is great.
Picked up a Rimmel blusher and seems fine.

So is my love affair over and is BB overrated?

All three. I too hated pot rouge. I love their gel liners though. Was disappointed with a Christmas palette I bought. I should know better.

Love the palettes I've bought in the past and also the brushes - were hugely expensive but very worth it.

well I have bought the skin foundation 2 days ago after using their moisture rich for a couple of years- nice on application but too greasy even for my norma-dry skin- disppears in 2 hours. Neither of these foundations has much coverage but at least with the Skin Foundation you can reapply without it sliding off your face or looking gungy.

oh yes- have 2 brushes. Blusher brush worth every penny- not so convinced by the eye shadow brush.

i love the skincare range, the vitamin face base is great and smells lovely

went off a lot of the make up - saying that i do chop and change foundations a lot and from what i remember they didnt have a shade that really suited me, like the concealers with powder

Their gel eyeliners are the most fantastic thing ever.

I love the gel eyeliners and her books, but the rest of the range hasn't wowed me. I bought the Blondie Pink lipstick but was very disappointed.

Gel liners I love but they dry up v quickly even if you put the lid back on swiftly!

Lip glosses not great for the price - prefer MUA

Long wear cream eyeshadow good

gel eyeliner ..too £££ for something that dries out half way through the pot depsite the lid
eyeliner brush..handle broke
pot rouge..doesn't last on my skin

maybelline gel eyeliner much better, cheaper and comes with a better brush than BB

Love. I don't really wear make-up but was given a free lesson before my wedding 4 years ago - showed me how to perfect the 'no make-up' look with very natural colours. Spent a load on various things then and still haven't used it all up, except the foundation, which I'm on about the 4th. I hate using cheap make up now- have been spoilt.

I really like it but have recently defected to Liz Earle, her cream blusher and light reflecting concealer is amazing, far, far better than anything I've bought from BB.

However, I'm really happy with the BB brow shadow I use and also the mascara. But that said, I'm keen to try Liz Earle's and plan to do so when my current mascara needs replacing.

Had a Bobbi Brown makeover a few years ago
It was horrendous and wild horses wouldn't drag me back to their counter...

They did the no-makeup-makeup on me once. I looked like I'd been dug up! I have binned 2 BB blushes as they turned orangey on me. I either had so little on, you couldn't see it or, I put more on and looked overdone. I rate the eye shadows. Long lasting. The foundations, on me, have no longevity.

BB long wear foundation and the stick one are both like a greasy oil slick on me after 2 hours - never known anything like it - and I have dry skin. Very disappointed, thought BB was going to be the new me. Persuaded to buy 18 Nude lipstick after Sali Hughes raved about it, and that was disappointing as well - too orange on me. So thumbs down from me.

Interesting comments about the blusher-powder one. I use Nude Peach which actually looks quite pinky on. It seems to get brighter over the day rather than fading so is really hard to apply the correct amount- to avoid looking pale to clown-like.

i absolutely rate bobbi brown make-up esp their eye-colour palettes where you can custom-build your choices. i bought my first palette about 3 years ago and apart from a few new buys, it is still going strong. I loved their bahama brown blusher (sadly discontinued) and have not found their recommendation to live up to it (bronzing powder, cannot remember name offhand) as good.
But their gel eye-liner. WOW. Just WOW. I can say my usual is Estee Lauder in Pllum (have green eyes) so very complimentary, but the dark brown maybelline version, jet black cannot remember the brand but cheap-ish in Boots just DO NOT COMPARE.
bobbi brown green gel eye-liner goes on so smoothly, so perfectly that I feel I have my own personal make-up artist :-)

Imo BB is massively over rated and hugely over priced and everything is soooo samey. Don't get me started on the Shimmer Brick - dear God that needs to be hurled into room 101 asap!

since this is a thread where folk know about BB, does anyone know what is similar to the Lip Tint she used to do? I have nearly used the last of mine and when I looked on line I couldn't see that they still did it. Its like a thickish gloss in a tube in various colours but it has something in it which makes your lips tingle IYKWIM

I like it, was exclusively a bb user until I discovered nars.

Hate the gel liner and love pot rouge, unlike the majority! Skin foundation good, but I'm loving nars sheer glow foundation.

I don't rate the gel liners either.

Mixed view ....... I used to love it but recently items do not seem as good. In the past have had lip palettes that 4 years on still using & are great, likewise skin foundation is great & the brushes are lovely - I bought myself a set at Bicester Village years ago & they are fab.

BUT do not like the BB foundation & the mascaras alays smudge by end of day & some of the recen coulours etc not great.

I had a makeover spent 200 quid buying it all - BIG mistake, never again!
Totally over rated.

I've never rated any of it. Had some foundation which always made me feel greasy. Find the eyeshadows had much less staying power than MAC (though everyday I have MUA. At that price, I'll reapply!). I have a lipstick I like, but it's not any better than a No. 7 one i have.
