Ds2 has a tiny waist but long legs....where can I get trousers to fit?

Goodness knows where he gets it from but DS2 (just 4 years old) has a tiny waist and long legs and I am struggling to find jeans that fit.
I would prefer jeans/trousers with the ribbed waist band so they are easy to pull up and down. He needs aged 4-5 for the length but they just hang off him.Any ideas where I can fin small waited bottoms with regular leg length?

My DS is nearly 3 and we have the same problem. He wears Sainsburys adjustable waist jeans. They definitely go up to age 3-4, not sure past that as we've not needed them yet!

LazyMachine · 02/02/2013 06:23

Polarn O. Pryet

pettyprudence · 02/02/2013 06:41

h&m - they have adjustable waist bands and long legs. everyone in Scandinavia appears to have very long legs Envy or the bottoms turned up Grin

Titchyboomboom · 02/02/2013 06:47

France! Other countries seem to have long thin children

upinthehills · 02/02/2013 07:08

Ha good luck Grin - my DS1 (6) has the waist measurements of a 5 year old and the leg measurements of and 8 year old. He refuses to wear jeans and dislikes adjustable waists. He too likes the ribbed waist trousers but the natural waist in them is normally 3-4cm bigger than his waist. I now go to shops armed with a tape measure and measure the natural waist of the trouser. Boden et al are a non starter - they are 58cm for his height, he is only 54cm.

Adjustable waist and ribbed is the holy grail - pumpkin patch did a pair a few years ago.

Had a big hit recently with M&S limited trousers - cotton, lined, ribbed waist, tiny waist - bought 4 pairs - but sorry they have gone now as went into the sale. This is a long way of saying, when you do find ones that fit - buy more than one pair!

DS2 has the same prob and is the same age as your DS. I second PoP clothing, or buying 4-5 years in other brands, but only if they have an adjustable waistband.

quiller · 02/02/2013 07:14

Vertbaudet or the new boden slim cut - tiny waists and long

HollyGoHeavily · 02/02/2013 07:17

Try GAP or Vertbaudet - my DD is slim but shortish and the legs are always way too long for her...

Wrigglytummy · 02/02/2013 07:17

Definitely sainsburys, they do elastic band waist adjusters even for my 6yr old. My boys live in their cords- indestructible!
Tesco often have really 'skinny' trousers, usually marked down in price. Asda are good too. Also M&S, but they are a bit more hit & miss.,

upinthehills · 02/02/2013 07:19

quiller tell me about the slim cut boden - i did see that they had slim cut cargos and cords, but the measurement box still show them as having the standard waist size, so for age 8 that would be 58cm - so I had discounted them. Are they smaller in reality?

lovethesun1 · 02/02/2013 07:21

Same problem here in a way (although my ds is a tiddler all round!) but we need adjustable waists. Would second h&m and occ marks&spencers. Didn't know about Sainsburys so thanks everyone!

JoandMax · 02/02/2013 07:23

H & M, PoP and a US shop called Carters are good. We normally get adjustable waists, never found any without that fit. I'm dreading potty training as its hard enough with a nappy on, with pants he's going to be even tinier!

Also, surprisingly I'm been really impressed with some Primark stuff - I dot know whether they cut them narrow to save money but have a few nice pairs for DS2 from there.

I'm struggling with shorts though - we're moving to Dubai soon so they'll be an everyday item but the adjustable waists can make them a bit bulky and I'm thinking hot, I really want to find some pull up style/elasticated waist ones that won't be stupidly big

legalalien · 02/02/2013 07:23

Agree with vertbaudet - or the lands end slimfit ones. I also bought a cyrillus pair once - a bit pricy but lasted well.

Speedos · 02/02/2013 07:25

Zara kids are aLl long and lean!

ipswichwitch · 02/02/2013 07:29

Either vertbaudet or jojomamambebe do trousers in 3 waist sizes for each age (I forget which)

MrsMushroom · 02/02/2013 07:34

Agree with H&M. My DDs and I are always flapping about in too-long pants which come from there.

lunar1 · 02/02/2013 07:36

Next slim fit and pull the elastic to the shortest size. Their carrot fit are good too. Ds1 is tall and very skinny, his pants and swim shorts are still 18-24 months and he is 4.3

GoodtoBetter · 02/02/2013 07:45

I'm surprised you're all saying H and M, they seem MASSIVE in the waist and although they are adjustable, I have to adjust them so much they look ridiculous with huge bunches of material on each side and then the bum looks all wrong.

nextphase · 02/02/2013 08:01

Another one say H&M! Really long in the leg for age. BUT you are going to have to get used to adjustable waists. They are the only way to go.
Next and M&S are OKish. But then we seem to live in Chinos, as they are the easiest to find for adjustable waists!

Tesco is VERY hit and miss - some are skinny, some are HUGE!

slalomsuki · 02/02/2013 08:26

I have two boys who have to have adjustable waists and long legs on everything. My solutions have been

Sainsburys
Boden slim fit
Pumpkin patch
Marks and Spencer's

And now I am a dab hand at running elastic through waist bands. My shopping experience for them is bulk buying when I find a style that suits.

It gets harder when they get older though.

Snowkey · 02/02/2013 12:28

H&M here but even they are too big - adjustable waists are very useful, got some slim fitting jeans from landsend for £7 each - total bargain. Mostly ds's jeans fit him properly for about a week and then they fall into the too short category!

SavoirFaire · 02/02/2013 12:39

Was also going to say verbaudet. Only trousers I have found that fit my DS properly.

Just checked catalogue and its vertbaudet. For each age they do slim, standard and full hip sizes. For 4yr old it's 58, 60 or 66 cm

nobodysfool · 03/02/2013 00:04

Wow thanks for all the suggestions. The problem I'm finding with adjustable waists it the whole material bunching round waist Hmm I'm off to trawl the sites you have suggested to find something suitable . Thanks ladies .

Gap and Primark are good for my skinny boy- he lives in the £3 track suit bottoms from Primark. Get on the Gap mailing list and they have regular 30% off emails- we stock up then or in the sale.

I want to get stuff from Verbaudet but I've been scared off by tales of them having awful customer service.
