why am i a size bigger there than everywhere else?!?!angry

sausagesandwich34 Fri 04-Jan-13 21:45:48

the sizing in H&M is increddiblt hit and miss

I have 3 different sizes from there

strumpetpumpkin Fri 04-Jan-13 21:48:15

i take at least 2 sizes bigger in h&m than most other shops. their sizing is tiny, and then it shrinks even more once you wash it

Mumelie Fri 04-Jan-13 21:49:40

All over the shop! I am a 12 but have tops from a 10 to a 16. Cannot do trousers at all as find waists too small and jackets are also tiny. I do overall find them a size too small. However I do love a bit of H&M and you can always cut the labels out.

ILoveSaladReallyIDo Fri 04-Jan-13 21:50:18

yeah because some H&M sizes are HUGE! you just have to ignore the sizes in there and go by looking at the item. I have stuff from there that ranges from size 6 to size 18 that all fits me at the same time confused

CointreauVersial Fri 04-Jan-13 21:58:20

It's designed for slender teenagers.

pootle123 Fri 04-Jan-13 22:04:40

Def size up there. I'm a 10 - 12 but always buy a medium which is a 14 - 16 by their reckoning.

goldface Fri 04-Jan-13 22:16:37

Glad is not just me.

Oh god Cointreau, I may be too old for them then!

OscarPistoriusBitontheside Fri 04-Jan-13 22:17:27

I have the same problem with trousers and jeans from there. Not made for women, but slender teenagers.

PoppyWearer Fri 04-Jan-13 22:18:43

I was a size 14 at most this time last year and even their size 20 jeans were a struggle to get on! I gave up. I have lost weight now (baby weight) but shall not be darkening their doors again!

I have a top in a 16 that fits, as well as a 12. Their trouser sizing is sodding awful too.

MoomieAndFreddie Sat 05-Jan-13 11:20:13

yes i agree its hit and miss

particularly with their jeans

I have a pair of size 14 work trousers that fit great if a little tighter than my usual size 14's, but my size 12 top from there is oh so tight.
It's like wearing spanx. Very handy though as its strong enough to hold me in!

It is tiny and makes no sense. Italy has a system, 40 is a ten, 42 a twelve etc.....but does H&M use that system here?

Oh no, they use their own double diget, start in the low 30s, so you spend an age trying to remeber what your size is, then half an hour to hunt down a SA to ask (cos god forbid they should stick a translation of their system on the wall or anything) and then the damn thing doesn't fit anyway, or looks like crap, or superglues itself to your ankles when you try to get it off so you fall through the curtain in the changing room and show everybody your big granny knickers.

I will never go back !

In fact I am only ever going to shop online from now on.

<changing room phobia now in progress>

I tried a size 14 top on in there yesterday, and it was obscenely tight. Very glad to read this thread and see I'm not alone!

MousyMouse Sat 05-Jan-13 12:53:33

it's a bit hit and miss, even with the basic tops that I buy yearly. sometimes I need L or XL (I'm tall with long torso).
quality is ok and they still have a lot of cotton stuff unlike primarni that washes well and doesn't get too sweaty.

Rache1S Sat 05-Jan-13 13:01:36

I bought 2 jersey dresses in a size 16. I usually wear a 10 in dresses. They'd be screwed if they weren't so cheap!

Megatron Sat 05-Jan-13 13:01:57

YANBU. I bought a pair of size 12 jeans in there that would be too small for our hamster.

PeachTown Sat 05-Jan-13 13:36:00

Tis teeny! But I shop there a lot so now know not to bother taking anything labelled as my usual size to the fitting room. I size up x2 usually and am not someone who worries about the size on the label. They do some good cheap basics so I put up with it.

Earlybird Sat 05-Jan-13 13:42:59

Yes. And I find the same is true at Zara also.

pootle123 Sat 05-Jan-13 13:54:30

Read somewhere that H & M and the like always make clothes on the small side to keep the costs down.

Vagaceratops Sat 05-Jan-13 13:58:58

YANBU

The childrens sizes are worse! They do them in age ranges, like 4-6, but there is so much difference between a 4 year old and a six year old, and the size before that is 2-4 which are really tiny.

I have the opposite problem with H&M. I find the medium stuff hangs off me like it's a size 16 on me on the top but medium on the bottem for stretchy things like pencil skirts are ok.

I have never tried anything other then skirts or dresses from there on though.

I have never tried anything other then skirts or dresses from there on though and the dresses always fit me nice.
